Chocolate macro
I'm most disappointed to see that I cannot customise my goals to include a chocolate target, along with the calories, protein, etc. I've been researching and experimenting, and think my optimum daily intake is around 100g - does this sound reasonable? How do you set yours?

Anyone else tracking calcium
One the macros I track is calcium - my diet tends to be low in it as I don't consume much dairy. I'm quite aware of the risks of osteoporosis in later life, and I'm taking what preventative action I can. I'm finding though that an awful lot of foods in the database don't give vitamin information. I don't want to majorly…

Yoga mat recommendations (UK)
I'm hoping someone can give me a heads up here! I've recently taken up Hatha yoga and really enjoy it. I want to buy a mat - the ones provided aren't great and I'd rather have my own. I'm 6' tall with very long limbs, and so I've been looking at the longer and wider options - but I need to transport it around, so…

Body fat calipers
Hi all, I'm thinking of investing in a set of these. Any advice from anyone? I've been looking at both manual and digital, wondering about the Sequoia Warrior or just very simple Accu Measure ones. (I'm in the UK). Background; I can't afford any of the "gold standard" assessments available. I have BIA scales but they vary…

Tips please, from those who've reached their goal weight!
Firstly congratulations! I joined MFP a year ago, and have exceeded my original weight loss target. I've revised my goals, and I'm now 6lb from achieving my new target weight. Other than the obvious answer (patience!) I wondered if anyone had any tips to share about shedding the last few pounds, as according to what I read…

Homemade stock
I make my own stock and I'm not sure how to work out the calories so I can log it on MFP. It's usally chicken - I simmer the bones with vegetables and peppercorns, strain, reduce, and freeze. I also sometimes make stock with beef bones, duck, or vegetarian versions. I always skim off any fat. Any ideas?

HRM advice
I recently started using a Polar HRM. My activity level is set to sedentary, and I've been using the calorie burn it gives me for activities to guide how many calories I eat, i.e. I'm eating my exercise calories back. However my weight loss has stalled! I'm accurate about what I eat (I weigh everything) and I deduct my BMR…

New goals for 2013
Just wondering what my realistic weightloss goals should be... I've already reached my original target, which was 180lb (I'm 6' and 49 years old, and have lost 29lb in about 10 months). Another 3lbs off would get my BMI below 24, which seems very do-able. I'd like to get below that but I don't want to discourage myself by…

Food hell
In a nightmare 3 course meal, chosen of course by someone else, what are the worst things you could be presented with? Meaning the fairly usual things to be found when eating at a restaurant in someone's home - but real more excotic experiences could be interesting too...
-
Food heaven
If you could choose your ultimate three course meal, regardless of cost or calories, what would it be?

HRM calorie recording/BMR
I've just started using a Polar HRM, which is very good. I'd been entering the calorie burn data straight into my MFP diary until I wondered whether my BMR was included, in which case I would be double counting, as MFP factors in BMR. So I checked with Polar, and BMR IS included, so to be accurate I need to deduct my BMR…

Learning to use an HRM properly!
I've just started using a Polar HRM (F55 but I don't think the model's all that relevant to the question). I'm using it at the moment just to calculate calorie burn. When I set it up part of the process was to do a "fitness test" i.e. relax while it ran through some sort of assessment and then told me I'm a fat slob - well…

Drinking your own urine for health benefits
No, I don't myself (nor anyone else's, lol). I remember it being talked about as a health benefit on TV years ago (in the UK) with some historical background, and just recently have come across a few actual practitioners who in the course of fairly ordinary conversation take this for granted and say things like: "if it's…

Some help please as I approach maintenance
My problem with food has never been with overeating or cravings (except occasionally for salty stuff). Mostly I get sad/depressed (lots of deaths in the family fairly recently, two suicides) forget to eat, have far too much to drink, and when I have remembered to eat it's been a Chinese takeaway. Or a pizza. Or something…

Your 50th birthday
Assuming you've friends but not really any family - what would you arrange?

Putting on an empty show
Which it feels like I'm doing. Any thoughts?

Dealing with sadness
Or maybe it's just straight depression, as one friend says... Anyway there's been a lot of grief, trauma and loss in my family, and I find it really hard to be motivated just now. Diet/exercise/being-under-my -calorie-goal matter less to me than friends and company - I'm not sure where my piorities are.

orange cauliflower
Has anyone else come across these? I bought one yesterday. It was advertisde as containing 20 times the vitamin C of the usual sort. So it sounded good but now I'm slightly concerned that it's some GM thing...

writing a will
OK - suppose you find yourself without any obvious/natural heirs. You're not very wealthy, but when you die what you will leave behind is enough to make a huge difference to an individual or give a significant boost to a charitable cause. You've looked at leaving money to charities you donate to, but you're put off by the…

CFS/ME
Hi, anyone out there with diagnosed CFS or ME? I'm currently still label-less while some more testing goes on, but it's looking likely that CFS will be the formal diagnosis and I'm looking for information... So I'd be really interested to hear from people who have this condition. I've been trying to eat as well as I can…

Wedding present help!
Help with ideas please! Two long-standing friends who are in their 40's marrying. They have both been married before, have a house each, and more "stuff" than they know what to do with. They don't intend to keep either house long term, so no plants for the garden, which is a shame as in these situations I generally buy a…

The problem with soy...
Is what? I know I could google this but you MFP'ers must have advice from experience. I drink miso soup several days a week, I added soy sauce to my stir fry earlier, and I like edamame, fresh or frozen. Is this consumption harmful?

Kamut flour
Has anyone baked with this? I'd like to make a wholemeal version of English crumpets, and it's been suggested that I try using this. Apparently it could give the lightness needed, but I also hear it doesn't behave quite like regular flour when cooking (different starchiness). So I'd be very interested in anyone's…

Calling all dog lovers!
And anyone else, who hates pointless human cruelty to animals.... http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Stop_the_barbaric_and_cruel_treatment_of_Spanish_hunting_dogs/?fAaanbb&pv=21 Sign please if you have a moment - this is the situation my gorgeous dog on my profile pic was rescued from. We do a little awareness raising, when…

When's an adult, an adult?
I'm feeling a bit sickened - a comment I made about someone's health issue got blasted for one thing, which is I suppose fair enough (I'm not always the most tactful). But my concerns got the response from a third party "she's an adult". When, exactly, does a male or female human become an adult? Do we assume that all…

American cup measurements
See, here in the UK, this would be about bra sizes, and therefore interesting. As it is, many of us have to battle with the bizarre US cup measurement when preparing food. Now don't get me wrong, it's fine for liquids. Except that then you measure them in ounces, instead. Which to many of the rest of us, is (highly…

I'd like just a few more MFP friends..
Because I find the ones I have such an amazing group - always there, giving (and I hope receiving!) advice and support. I've recently deleted some people who just weren't active - sad to say goodbye but I log in daily, except when I'm on hols or whatever, and I like to see what my MFP friends are doing, swap ideas, and…

Stuffed courgette flowers
I have courgette plants growing well in my garden - I'd like to use the flowers. However all the recipes I know call for frying in oil - in fact I've only ever deep fried them, and my lord they were delish! Has anyone found a less calorific way of cooking them?
