15 is definitely old enough to start learning how to cook healthy! I know, more time on your part...but maybe on weekends? Have him fix some meals with supervision, they can be around for a few days.

Also 5'7", also about 178 now. Old enough and experienced enough to know I might not get down to 140--will be happy with somewhere in the 150's, so BMI is in range.

Family can be a challenge. If it is kids and hubby, you can manage that with an "we're all going to be healthier" family challenge. I totally understand about bad backs...I have stenosis and am working hard to try to avoid surgery. Do you have access to a trainer or PT who understands your injury and can give you safe exercises?
