Great news: I went on a big long run with a buddy on Saturday. Turns out my cellie slipped under his passenger seat. So I'm getting my phone back! No more nervous/bummed snacking for me. I'm on happy, going to make good choices, and take care of myself frame of mind. What a relief.

I am stammering and sputtering like all those contestants on the Biggest Loser. I really don't know what happened. If pressed, I'd say I worked out harder this week than any of the previous weeks. My diet wasn't great, but I didn't go way overboard at all. Oh well, as ya'll are probably tired of hearing me say, "It is…

Our Challenge-mate Galathea sent a mail that she is traveling all week so she sent her number in a day early. She'll be back in time for next week. Galathea: 160.7

Hello, I don't have a pony in this race. I've never read Atkins, never tried it, never condemned it as wrong. Nothing. But I am a skeptic. What popped into my head is, in arguing it is sustainable I want to see. I can imagine there are a billion perfectly good reasons to change and move on. So that is proof of anything.…

It is a token of affection given to your partner when it seems like it has been an eternity and there is nothing else you can think to do. ;)

162.8 - that was tough. Two pounds isn't easy. Last week:165.4

Off topic a little bit. I started my weight-loss journey about two years ago, primarily with yoga. (cold Iyengar yoga) One person wrote about your body getting used to bikram yoga. That is getting on to something. It is true that yoga and other things, mixing it up, is probably a real good idea. So, I guess, don't think…

I'm a man, and didn't quite top three. But I just wanted to congratulate you on starting. I'm sure you'll get it, the exercise that is pretty universal, is the mental flexibility and strength to be positive. As, in all day today I didn't get my planned fitness in, my food choices slipped, other things are off kilter, etc,…

Here is PDF of the 2009 "Position of the American Dietetic Association: Weight Management" http://tinyurl.com/3gqrg7j They define a starvation diet as "between 0 and 200 calories a day." Starvation mode comes when famine victims spend a couple of weeks at sub-200cal days. Not that they are any less biased then Dr. Squat,…

Wow, Dr. Hatfield is still at it in 2010. Dr. Squat. Biggest squat in history at one point. A legendary Power lifter. I'm not going to directly say that his organization is junk. I think that there are more recent, and perhaps less "motivated" researchers looking at metabolism and obesity. I *CAN* guarantee, without any…

Not to be a target here, but can anyone point to a link where studies have shown that men lose weight faster than women? I know many people have there anecdotes of watching this happen, but I'd like to read of some studies confirming it, or clearly describing the mechanism. The reason I ask, on the first several seasons of…

I have an "evaluation weight" I'm not going to trust my opinion of what I should look like or what I should weight to be strong and healthy. "Why am I not going to trust myself?" Because I've been obese for the last ten years and have consistently been really wrong on my appearance, my health, and my food choices. I looked…

Regarding "Starvation Mode" the truth is badly misrepresented. Kind of like the myth about sort of working out a little and having the additional five pounds be "muscle weight" As most people throw it around "Starvation Mode" is a myth. As most people throw it around "Gaining weight due to increased muscle" is a myth.…

Cool, for some reason I don't keep stuff under my bed (lord knows I have junk shoved everywhere else) My bedroom seems to be rounding into feng shui goodness.

If you are willing to wear the exact same pants every time you weigh in, it doesn't matter which way you go....I just weigh first thing in the morning before I get dressed.

This is a good topic. Just in the last two or three week, I somehow got it in my head that good quality/quantity of sleep is important for my weight loss. I've been reading a little about sleep and weight loss, I just started kind of tracking my sleep, and I've tried to make a few adjustments to get better/more sleep. I…

My Monday April 11th weigh-in: 167.2 lbs.

I always add "yeah, I'm trying" ..... "Thank you. Yeah, I've been trying" Just in case folks wonder if I'm sick or something, let's 'em know it is me and my doctors plan and I am right on it.

Nice turnout. This is great. Some questions I've had: Q how do we get all of our Monday weights together in one place? A: For this first week I'll direct message everyone and post the compiled answers in one thread. From then on it should be a little clearer and easier. Q: Am I out if one of the weeks I do not lose two…

I'm kinda training for one myself. I ran one about 22 year and 90 lbs ago. I've lost about 70 of those 90 pounds as I get back to a better "me" weight and "running" weight. I think for non-runners to begin you must focus on two things, enjoying consistently training, and don't hurt yourself. I'm doing it sort of backwards,…

I think "coma" is the sedentary category, There is also active, very active etc. The BMR calculation does not uniformly calculate your numbers as if you were in a coma. AFAIK

Not to throw too much chaos into this but: using statistics extra weigh clearly correlates to increased health problems and lower life expectancy. Total Cholesterol numbers don't have such a direct conclusion. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but there are good hard science type of folks who are questioning and reevaluation…

My Chol and tri's were both high. I lost fifty pounds and had a blood test and both were in the normal range. It isn't always that way. Some thin folk have high levels, but people with normal levels can have them rise when they gain excess weight and they'll drop again after a weight loss.. Olive Oil is good, but once I…

That's for the Catholics who try to think of it as anything but pleasurable. KIDDING, KIDDING, <duck outta the way> -mfpchris (who attended Catholic school)

P.S. Add a picture. Here on MFP let it be the place where you let it all out and know all of us here are on your side.

Being a balding middle-aged guy without kids we aren't necessarily in the same demographic, but..On July 4, 2010 I was 5'8" 235, I joined MFP and PeerTrainer. Oct 10 - I hit 199 Mar 16 - 170lbs (today) I hope by July 4, 2011 I'll be at my goal. You can, You Can, YOU CAN DO IT.. Never let a mistake, a slip up, an over…

Regarding contestants after the show. i don't know if it has always been this way but I read that all contestants get a one year gym membership and trainer after the show ends. Some might be able to transition back into their home life and continue their progress. Some won't.
