Sexy. Period. End of story.

Depending on effort and terrain.... I burn between 40-60 calories per mile while biking. I love it! It's a nice break from running.... and it's a great way to get around!

another vote for mileage.
-
Yes, I would take the shot.

Agreed. Yoga.

I've gotten a lot of medals. But only because some races give them to ALL finishers. FYI - a marathon is 26.2 miles. No more, no less. ;)

I did not read all of the replies, but here's my .02. I switched from traditional running shoes to minimalist shoes about a year and a half ago. I was wearing stability shoes - Mizunos. And I went cold turkey to Brooks Pure Connects. It toook me about a week to get used to them. I did a couple of runs to try them out and…

I have tested this. My fitbit adds about 100-300 steps when I drive to work which is a 30 minute mostly highway commute. It pisses me off, but I guess it is what it is.

If it's 80 degrees or hotter I bring water on 4+ mile runs.... sometimes even for 3 miles runs if I feel dehydrated in any way. I have a handheld water bottle that has the strap, but I DESPISE carrying stuff. So I go with a fuel belt and carry 3 or 4 small water bottles on my waist. I usually prefer just water. If I do…

Oh you must have visited Runner's World online. And, BTW I know a lot of marathon runners who also do these kinds of races just for the fun of it.
-
Sadly, yes. It is true. I *wish* I was still burning as many calories as I was 50 pounds ago.
-
You'll do fine! The first one is so exciting! Just don't expect to feel as good as you do after a half marathon!
-
Yeah, actually I always do the taper back week when I'm increasing my mileage for various races. Good advice.

I'm in CT. The weather today was warm, in the 80s. But during the bike portion of the race this morning it was probably only 70. Seems like the other time this happened though on that training run - it was a hot day. Maybe heat is involved. ?

THanks for the suggestions! I will definitely wash it. I think it was tight enough.... it was under the band of my sports bra. It was definitely wet enough, but it is possible that the snaps got wet on the transmitter - from sweating. Although when it happened I wason the bike and there is decent air flow. So not sure.…

Funny this topic came up. It's on my "goals for the year" to run a race in shorts and a sports bra only. I am going to do it in June at a local 7 mile road race. I would never, ever do it at the gym though.... poor form.

it it is really hot out.... or for runs longer than 5 or 6 miles I usually wear a fuel belt with 3 water bottles. I use my phone as an iPod so that's strapped to my arm. I bring food for runs longer than 10 miles.... sometimes I bring gum or mints.
-
For me, those amazing endorphins usually kick in on medium length runs.... so I'd say 6-9 miles is where i most frequently get the so-called runners high.

second time I've posted this link today.... but it's good stuff. Leigh Peele has a good head on her shoulders. http://www.leighpeele.com/diet-break-plan

Hey Garmin gurus..... do you think the Forerunner uses elevation to calculate calories burned? or just distance, time, and the individual's weight and sex?
-
Rome wasn't built in a day. Your body does not want you to lose weight. Your mind does. Patience and persistence is the *only* way you will get results. There is absolutely nothing wrong with losing a pound a week.
-
Do whichever you want to do. Both are effective. If you don't really want to be a "pure" runner then do the run/walk thing. No shame in that. Google Jeff Galloway. He has run/walk plans for up to 26.2 miles. There are loads of folks who do this.

Awesome thread!! This summer I want to: 1. PR in half marathon 2. go to yoga more faithfully 3. do paddle boarding

My running burn with my polar HRM is about 105 cals per mile. My burn according to Garmin 405cx is also about 105 cals per mile.... maybe a smidge more. So for me they are pretty much in sync. Now if i use the HRM that came with the Garmin..... I drop down to about 78 cals per mile. Not sure why that is.... but I think…

I did the first month faithfully. I did not lose anything. I did feel like my clothing fit a little looser though and it seemed like some of that loss came during the recovery week. I started month 2, but I've been having knee problems with all that jumping.... oddly enough since I run marathons and that has zero effect on…

Read that article I posted. I don't think it's BS.
