For long runs (2 hours or longer) I eat Clif bars and jelly beans. I usually have a bite of a bar or a few jellies every 6 miles or so if I know I'm going 12+. I can't stand Gu or sports beans.

I dropped a size with every 8 lbs or so. I went from a 14 to a 4 when I lost 50 lbs.

I'm 5'9", 41 years old. I currently weigh about 139. My goal weight is 133. I was there 2 years ago.....

5K marathon. LOL.... you must frequent RWOL. This thread is solid gold!! ETA: This must be where all the cool people are hanging out.

Endorphin high.

Then we haven't been running the same races. ;-)

There are porta potties on the course. But the lines can be long. Apparently people forget that it is actually a RACE! LOL..... I see people running off into the sidelines to pee behind bushes. You could always pull a Paula Radcliffe and poop in the street..... she did this and still won the London marathon. She's my hero.

connect.garmin.com You can upload your forerunner data there. :)

wow! That is good to know! I am surprised I'm having pain because I run marathons and have no problems with feet pounding on pavement. But, I guess I will take this to heart and back off on Insanity for now.

There will be water stations on the course. Read the race website to figure out what miles you can expect these. Sometimes they will supply Gu or gels. If not - I usually bring jelly beans, gu, or clif bars (I like to eat real food when I run). Ideally you would have incorporated some of this fueling business into your…

It's only 3.1 miles. You should do it!!!! If nothing else - it will be fun. :)

I just finished the first month of Insanity. I'm in the first week of the second month. My knees are hurting. :( I bought ChaLEAN extreme. So my plan is to mix up the weights with Insanity.

That is freaking awesome!!! And it is *exactly* why I run.... cool stuff like that. :)

When my kids were little I worked out at home with DVDs exclusively. I belong to a gym now, but I still mostly do stuff at home. I prefer running and cycling outside - not at the gym.

I thought the USATF retracted the "no iPod" rule for races. But, perhaps I'm mistaken? It was never enforced anyway (at least in the races I participated in over the past few years). As for wearing layers - I agree with others. Make them throw aways so you can just strip it off and leave it. Lastly, the backpack sounds…

ITA. I have a HRM and I burned 250-350 in month 1 of Insanity. I burn 450-550 for the hour long sessions in month 2.

I'm a big fan of..... if you want to run faster then you have to run faster!! I would start doing some speedwork. That could be tempo runs, intervals at a track or on the treadmill, or even informal speed intervals such as fartleks (where you pick up your pace for a period of time - ex: I'm going to run all out until I…

LMAO!! Well I have THE most sedentary partner ever. He comes to maybe 10% of my races..... usually only the ones that are far away and we make a vacation out of it.

This is fantastic!! I already have a FB Ultra... but I had been wondering about accuracy compared to other types. I am glad to hear of the consistency between the two units. And thanks for taking the time to do this!

I suffered with chronic shin splints for years! I am an overpronator, heel striker and was wearing stability shoes with orthotic inserts. I switched to Brooks Pure Connects. They are not a barefoot shoe, but a "minimalist" shoe with a low heel drop. I had a little bit of calf pain initially when I switched..... but that…

This is the whole basis for "caloric restriction". Allegedly if you severely restrict your daily caloric intake you will live longer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calorie_restriction ETA: Eating super low calories for the purpose of slowing aging or for "health" reasons is a whole different thing than eating super low…

Sounds fun. Count me in too!

slow down your pace! It really helps

Sounds like your shoes are spent. I buy new shoes every 400 miles or so... which ends up being about every 4-6 months depending if I'm training for a race or not. The shoes that are good for me might not be good for you! I suggest you go to a running store and get fitted. Good shoes are not cheap - they cost anywhere from…

1. It's only 3.1 miles - you don't need to carb load. 2. I usually eat a peanutbutter and banana sandwich about an hour or 90 mins before a race. 3. Only bring water with you if it's going to be very warm.... or if there are NO water stations on the course and you think you might need some. Personally I don't need any…

I'm in my second month of Insanity. It's a lot of jumping - pretty hard on the joints. I'm a distance runner - and in very good shape. I find Insanity challenging. And..... coming into this second month, my knees hurt. :( So I'm actually going to take it easier and mix in some other workouts instead of following the…

For most people, running burns 90-120 calories per mile. What is your pace? How much do you weigh now? I'm 139 lbs and I burn about 105-110 cals per mile when I run. To figure it out multiply your body weight in lbs x 0.75 Also - you should not have sore shins after a run. That can be from increasing your mileage too…

Insanity is pretty stressful on the body... lots of jumping and stress on the joints. It's possible that you have some swelling and water retention from the workouts. How long have you been doing Insanity? I didn't see much in the way of results until I hit the transition week between month 1 and 2.

I would not worry about an extra 200 calories for nursing a toddler. He eats lots of other food - not like an infant getting ALL of his nutrition from you..... your milk supply is minimal anyway if you are only nursing once a day. It's not going to go down significantly if you decrease your intake (potentially) by 200…
