If what you are doing isn't working anymore - that means your body got smart and figured out how to hang on to the precious pounds. Don't ever forget - your body does NOT want you to lose weight. Your mind and your body are at odds. So if what you have been doing isn't working anymore then do something different!!!

When is your half marathon? Doing an additional 3.1 miles in the same amount of time is a BIG pace increase. It's going to take some serious speed work. Weekly, I would do one long run, 2 easy runs, and one day of speed intervals of some kind - tempo run, fartleks, speed intervals on the track or treadmill... something…

When I first started I ran every other day. My pace was around 11 minute mile I ran for 3 miles at first... well it was more of a walk/run hybrid until I could work up to 3 miles running continuously. My results were that I developed cardiovascular stamina and a love/lust for running!! Now I run 5Ks and marathons and all…

Stretch marks are genetic. There is no amount of cocoa butter in the world that can prevent them. And to my knowledge there is nothing to get rid of them either. They are scars under the skin. Sorry!

I'm about 5 lbs lighter than you. But, I burn between 100-110 calories per mile depending on my speed and the terrain. I usually run between 8:30 and 10:15 min miles. So I'd say a 250 calorie ball park is right for 26 minutes.

+1 Who needs more chafing and discomfort??

I do it!! I haven't been in a while..... my work schedule conflicts with my favorite vinyasa class.

I guess it might depend on the model. But, the FT4 and FT7 come with one.

so you are saying that you want to subtract your BMR calories out of the equation? I think you are over-thinking this. I would not worry about the minutia of one calorie per minute difference. Look at the BIG picture. You already have your BMR figured out. Now figure out how many calories you burn over the course of a day…

I am just finishing up my Recovery /Core week. Will start the max stuff in a couple of days. I did not lose anything the first month. This week, I have dropped a bit. I suddenly feel like my legs are much thinner..... So I haven't lost much weight yet - maybe 2 lbs. But, I don't have much to lose either so I know it comes…

I have FT7 and like it a lot.

Oh yeah, this! I cried in pain and agony at mile 23.... cried in joy at 26.2.
-
The only time i have cried while running is during a marathon. I pretty much cry at mile 23 each time. ;)

Funniest thing I've read all day!!

Cycling is a legitimate method of losing fat. It can work really well for people who do NOT deal with being in a deficit very easily. You can create any type of cycle that works for you..... but it's not just dieting for a few days and then pigging out when you feel like it. For example if you do a 7 day cycle - you might…

Are your shoes too small? Sounds like you've had some rubbing issues. I wear a full size larger in running shoes than I do in street shoes. I've had way too many toenails blackened and falling off!!

LMAO!! I wonder how many hits this thread has gotten so far?

Get yourself a plan. Runnersworld.com has a "smart coach" which will plan one out for you. You can also check Hal Higdon's website or Jeff Galloway's site (if you prefer a run/walk hybrid). They both have free plans for downloading. Get some good running shoes. And have fun! You will never forget your first! ;-)

I'm on week 5...the recovery week between the two sets. I haven't lost any weight but my thighs and belly are smaller. I am finding, though that my knees hurt. I'm surprised because I am a distance runner. I didn't think I would have a problem with the pounding.... so just be aware that it's hard on the joints.

I have a Polar FT7 hrm. I like it. Cost me about $68 on Amazon. Worth it.

Is the OP talking about a diastasis or a prolapse? They are two different things.... two different body parts. And treated differently. I would strongly suggest seeing a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor work (if the problem is an actual prolapse).

That is the best (or one of the best ) ways to burn 100 cals. ;-)

LOL! I did that tonight..... 4 kids later I have just a lil "loose skin" on my belly. Bleh.

I used to hate running too. HATE. But, 4 marathons and countless other races later.... I'm a runner. And I'm addicted. Don't discount it until you have given it a good go. :) Other than that...... just get off your bum and walk, bike, move! that's how you burn calories! As an example - tonight I walked to the grocery store…

I think whenever you want to work out is fine. And regarding food - some people just go out without eating anything. That doesn't work well if it's going to be a long run though. Most eat something light prior to the run. I usually try to eat 30-45 mins before I head out.

I'm going to disagree with the above folks. I am by NO means an expert, but from what i have ready from both Leigh Peele and Tom Venuto..... it is very hard to both lose fat and build a large amount of muscle at the same time. In order to lose fat you MUST exist in a deficit. And to put on a lot of lean mass.... you cannot…

Lots of us have them. Do a search of the forums and you will likely find what you are looking for.

Yes, to get faster you need to do some speedwork. This can be tempo runs, intervals, track speed sessions, treadmill work, etc. I'm a big believer in.... if you want to run faster then you must run faster.
