  • Yes, that sounds like a good set up.
  • Other than the "should/should not eat back exercise calories," the advice in this thread has been pretty good. And yes, you should eat back your exercise calories. However, you must be honest with the level of activity and duration, and you should consider your weight in calculating your exercise, since that will impact…
  • Ended the month at 189.2 lbs, which is down about 6 lbs for the month - approximately 1/2 of my goal. However, still a success. I did have about four days where I grossly exceeded my calorie needs - travel, graduations, holidays are all difficult. I found out that it is not enough to take healthy foods with me on a trip -…
  • What is your target weight?
  • Treadmills are boring. So is walking. So I listen to an audio version of the Bible and other books, pray, and think thoughts. It's a great time to clear my head. :)
  • Generally, food. I really love good food. What makes it good is fat, seasoning, and sugar - in that order. The stuff that I have to stay away from are Blue Bell ice cream (particularly Moolinnium Crunch and Homemade Vanilla) and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I've read that if you allow yourself two bites, then it will abate…
  • A few ideas: PB&J PB&Honey Tuna Salad (mustard, tuna, onion or apple - no mayo) Chicken Salad (again, skip the mayo) And general advice: A sandwich is just food between two slices of bread. Don't get hung up on traditional fare. Bananas and peanut butter go well together, and many vegetables can be made into a sandwich. HTH
  • You should be worried - Scouting preaches a focus on fitness, but when budget realities set in, the food offered is not usually very healthy. I go camping with the boys every month in addition to a week of scout camp and a two week high adventure trek. For a situation such as you describe, I try to be aware of the calories…
  • Carbs are a macronutrient, so if you are cutting out carbs but want to maintain the same calorie intake, you will have to replace the carbs with either protein or fat.
  • I feel your pain. I love fast food and have found it hard to give up. At this point, I can't do fast food, except subway, or I'll blow my goals outta the water. Every time I try, it back fires, so I just can't do it. So it's going cold turkey for me.
  • You might try different prep methods. As an example, eating leafy raw spinach doesn't satisfy, although I like the taste of it. But cooking it down into a more compact and solid form, and adding a touch of olive oil makes it quite filling.
  • The fish aren't unhealthy, its what we do to them that makes them unhealthy. If you can fillet it, you can bake it or grill it, which makes it a great dish. Other game animals are more difficult, since they tend to have stronger flavors (gaminess) and tend to be darker, greasier meat. Sometimes it helps to soak them in…
  • Not the answer you're looking for, but more veggies is really what you will find to be more satisfying while maintaining your calorie goal.
  • Funny post is funny. When will people stop getting butthurt over something some random person said on the internet? I leave my diary open and anyone can comment at anytime. If I am ready to hear their advice, I'll take it. If I'm not ready to hear their advice, I'll ignore it. If I consider their comment offensive, I'll…
  • Congrats on the progress! Dealing with leg and joint pain can put a damper on the enthusiasm level, to be sure. I complained of the pain early on to a friend that is about my age, who was having to exercise and diet due to weight gain associated with an injury. He encouraged me to keep pushing through the pain (as long as…
  • 178 is still rather ambitious, since there are only 168 hours in a week...
  • My goal for May is reach my fat loss goal of 184 lbs. I intend to do this by: *Reaching my macro nutrient goals *Eating more fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts *Avoiding processed foods *Limiting dairy (I'm addicted to Chobani) *Continuing the cardio workouts *Incorporating more resistance training Looking forward to June…

  • Yeah, I'm a little OCD about logging food, but I don't log my exercise as accurately. Since I make myself log all of the food, it has the benefit of curbing my snacking by making me ask myself if that snack is really worth the extra effort of logging.

  • Your body will adjust to eating less at particular times of the day, but that usually just means that you don't feel as hungry at that time. Symptoms such as lethargy and feeling weak may indicate that you need additional calories and nutrients, while a headache often indicates that you are beginning to dehydrate. Drink…

  • The alarm on my phone. I leave it in another room which requires that I actually get out of bed and walk to turn it off. By then, I'm awake enough to get going. My motivation is to reach my potential as a person. I have drastically changed my diet and increased the amount of exercise I'm getting, as a lifestyle change -…
  • Put it in almost anything. Works well added to cereals, yogurt, smoothies, or stove top dishes, such as goulash. Make sure that you grind it up, or buy it already ground.
  • For her, being a Christian has everything to do with it. That is her value system and she is simply explaining her decision based on her value system.
  • Each of us is responsible for our own behavior, making sure that we treat others fairly and in a manner in which we would like to be treated. The fact that someone else made a mistake does not relieve us of this responsibility to them, and more importantly, to ourselves. A related quote that has stuck with me since I was a…
  • I'm not sure who you are attributing this comment to, but I wanted to clarify that I did not say this.
  • "... At least as much as any water found in the human body is water, which is what you said ..." Which is something that you've attributed to me that I did not say. At no point have I stated a percentage of water in any of these drinks, the human body, or anything similar. To try to equate lemonade with being water is…
  • I was addressing lemonade because it is incorrect to state that "lemonade is water" as you did. Some have advocated all types of soft drinks, sports drinks, alcohol - you name it - as a method of maintaining hydration for someone that does not prefer the taste of water. Honestly, that is a bit crazy. I suggest just…
  • Take a page from Nike and "just do it." After a few days you'll be ok with it - not craving it, just ok. I'm not a big fan of water either, but that is what I did to get over the initial distaste of drinking water. I would not suggest drinking sodas, juices, tea, coffee, etc., as your water intake as the added sugars can…
