  • It shouldn't be that difficult, seeing as: 1) There is not a time constraint, so this could be done over the course of a day - not just one meal 2) "Animal Protein" includes cheese and other dairy 3) Depending on the fat content, some cuts of meat can be as much as 400 calories per 4 ounce serving.
  • Smoothies are great! My favorite includes peanut butter, banana, skim milk , almond milk, and powdered egg whites. FWIW, the beauty of MFP is that you can enter the ingredients before you make the smoothie. This will allow you to change ingredients as necessary to meet all of your nutritional goals - with no surprises. :)
  • While eating clean involves eating minimally processed foods, it's unrealistic to eat only foods that have not been packaged for longer term safe storage. Concerning the food in question, I would try to make sure that it was wild caught salmon as opposed to farm raised, but being in a foil pouch does not make it fall…
  • +1 Good article containing good advice without all of orthorexic hype.
  • Listen to your husband. From what you've described, he's right: you're going OCD on this. Fitness is a lifestyle choice, but it should not be your life. If you are spending much more than an hour each day on exercise, and you are not making a career out of it (body building, etc.), then you are out of balance. I would…
  • Low sodium V-8 juice, cauliflower, and sweet potatoes, to name a few.
  • An animal lover? That would be me. Chicken, beef, pork, venison, elk, moose, bison, dove, duck goose, quail, turkey, hare, fish, gator, rattlesnake, even bear and armadillo (once) - Properly prepared, I love 'em all.
  • Why so much fear? If you don't like your choices, then make choices you do like. If you are ok with your choices, then quit worrying about what some random person said about them on the internet. I'm here to learn, and I learn more from people that have a differing POV than my own than I do from glad handing comments.
  • That is a cool find, but I agree with lunamare - don't tie an animal to you if he is big enough to drag you where you don't want to go. In fact, unless your dog will consistently walk/jog/run with you on a "loose" leash (no pulling at all, staying in the "heel" position at all times) then you really need the control of a…
  • Your first post: And now this: I'm calling foul on this one. The first post is focused on obesity, plain and simple. Now you're saying that this is about food security - which was not indicated in your first post. If this is about getting responses (selling papers), then you've suckered me in. Fool me once...
  • This proves nothing except that statistics can be manipulated to bolster any POV. As an adult male at 185 cm, 62 kg would be borderline for an unhealthy maintenance weight.
  • Before you run out and rack up a lot of $$$ in medical bills, use a little common sense and try a few things to see if you can help your body heal itself. First, pain is there for a reason - to get you to stop doing what you're doing because it is causing damage. Anything to excess can cause damage, so pay attention to…
  • Why is this?
  • Actually, 3.25% fat by weight, so 2% has a little more than half of the calories from fat that whole milk does. Not a big deal if you have the room in calories and macros. The difference is more noticeable in 1% and skim milk. We have to use skim because too many in our house like to drink milk - we can go through a gallon…
  • Cottage Cheese, protein bars, eggs, tuna, chicken, peanut butter...to name a few.

  • Is it the same on the days that you eat eggs? I'm thinking more protein and more snacks.
  • Started 2012/02/13 @228 lbs. Joined MFP a few days later @226 lbs. Currently lack two pounds to reach my weight loss goal, which I should reach next week. However, the real goal was not weight loss, but was a changed lifestyle resulting in better numbers from the Doc. He was talking medication and I'm saying no way will I…
  • In the increase of knowledge lies the ability to change. Some things surprised me, but others, not so much. When I learned that the types of food you eat is information to your body - not just nutrition - that was my epiphany.
  • Not trying to beat you up, but you are eating foods that sabotage your every effort to lose weight. Clean up your diet, educate yourself on healthy food choices, drink plenty of water and you should see a change. Google is your friend - search for "foods high in potassium" and you will get many hits. FWIW, sweet potatoes…

  • Move your macros around. It looks like you are eating about 55% Carbs, 30% Fat, and 15% protein. Protein, fat, and fiber give foods satiety, so I can understand why you are starving. Up your protein and reduce carbs and see what happens.
  • Sounds like you are dieting instead of incorporating a lifestyle change. If it is a diet, then you can "fall off of the wagon," but if it is a lifestyle change, there isn't a wagon to fall off of. So you went over one day ... no big deal. Pick up the next day where you left off and carry on. The scale is not your master -…
  • Powdered egg whites are about the highest protein source I've found. Add them to shakes and smoothies.
  • No and No. I eat peanut butter almost every day. I would suggest that you drop the Jif Regular Creamy for Jif Natural Creamy to get away from the hydrogenated oils.
  • Had a Reese's Blizzard at DQ Sunday.

  • I always try to eat the majority - if not all - of my exercise calories back. Some days, like yesterday, I eat more than that. If I feel hungry or weak, I eat. So far, it's worked pretty well.
  • Grilled, rotisseried, baked, or even microwaved, seasoning is the main thing. Poultry seasoning, cayenne, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder or garlic salt are some that I use. I also use olive oil for most recipes and have found Pam to be a great way to control the amount of oil used.
  • I can't see your diary, and the intensity of your exercise needs to be accounted for, as well as your metabolism - but I'd guess that you are eating too few calories for healthy weight loss.
  • I walk at a local park at 4:00 a.m. each morning. A border collie and a .45 are my walking companions. :o
