A while ago I had a trainer and he told me that if you change your exercise up a couple time a week, like adding weights or walking really fast for a minute then regular pace for 2-5 minutes then you'll burn more calories. It's like you are tricking your body and somehow you end up burning more calories. Hope this helps!
