Oh my gosh I miss swimming SO MUCH. We've had a very cool spring / early summer here in BC so I haven't braved lakes or oceans yet but I am planning to next weekend. The city of Vancouver is opening a few pools in mid-July but I'm honestly not sure how willing I am to risk it, I might wait and see how people behave the…

I mean, fair enough. MFP has no information to be able to judge whether the workout calories and steps actually are double-counting or not. The default assumption that they are double-counting seems undocumented and unconfigurable however, which to me is a user experience flaw. I'd like to be able to mark certain workouts…

I don't understand it either. With the amount of walking I did today, I normally would get between 300-400 calories credit just for the steps. I have a misfit watch, if that matters. But, instead of an afternoon playing video games I went on a 90 minute bike ride. I tracked the ride with Endomondo and a HR monitor, it…

Good for you! That is amazing! It is also my goal to be able to do an unaided pull-up. I'm getting stronger but a long way to go still.

I just connected my new Misfit Path to MFP - yet to be seen how this all works out.

Interesting article. I have been wondering about this, as I was looking back on my nutrition reports over the last couple months. About two months ago I started making a concerted effort to get more protein into my diet, and most days I manage to hit the RDA, but not all. I almost never hit the MFP default number - it just…

Amazing - and props on the Supernatural shirt :D

Ooof I am there with you. When I am in acute pain, I have found an RMT to be helpful. My problems are of the hypermobility / instability type, so I've made good progress in the past year or so focusing on strengthening the hip / thigh muscles. Lunges with progressively heavier dumbbells have been the most helpful for me,…

Today my cousin has been pinning a lot of nonsense to her Pinterest board about weight loss. One actually said "Lose 40 pounds in a month!" with a picture of a fitness model beside it. What the actual advice was seemed to be some combination of turmeric smoothies, apple cider vinegar, drinking all the water ever, oh, and…

I am also quite close to my goal - four pounds to go. Two weeks ago I result my calories to a 0.5lb/week loss rather than 1lb/week. It's been good in some ways - those extra calories help me to be less deprived. And I have lost one pound over those two weeks (though it was 0 first week and 1 the next), so I guess that is…

I don't use much in the way of milk products, (not to mention I find greek yogurt disgusting), so I struggle with protein too. So far I've been taking the easy way out and snacking on protein bars. And that's even after making sure to have beans, nuts, or soy at every meal. I am hoping that once I reach maintenance the…

My migraines were partly a result of a magnesium deficiency, and they were definitely made worse by exercise. Magnesium supplements are cheap, and there isn't much danger of getting too much, so it's worth a shot to see if it helps you.

That is creepy and gross and I'm sorry it is ruining your workout. :(

If I am really stressed or unhappy, I just cannot eat. Thankfully those times are not often :) Isn't it funny how some of us are wired to overeat when emotional, and some of us to not eat at all? Neither option seems particularly healthy or useful as an evolutionary advantage.

I really prefer evenings. The gym is less crowded after 8:30pm, and I don't feel rushed in my routine as I've got nothing urgent to do afterwards. That said, if my schedule allows, I do appreciate the boost in energy that a morning cardio workout can provide.

Thanks to this thread, I have now googled wtf "Little Debbie" is, and I think I have learned something about American culture ;) My mom was a health nut before her time, but this resulted in several dinnertime fights trying to get me to eat liver because it was "so nutritious". bleeaaggghhhh

I'm in! I'm going to start with the beginner challenge and add as many multiples as I can to get close to 60.

My local community centre gym offers up to three free sessions with a trainer. I took advantage of a session to set me on track with a basic strength training program I can stick with. Maybe call around and see if your city offers anything similar?

Huh! I had asparagus with dinner last night and this morning the scale showed a little over a pound drop from yesterday. I was wondering what was going on with that - maybe this is part of it.
-
That's me! My starting weight was 163, goal is 150, currently at 157. I expect the last 7 pounds to be sllooowwww.

Be very very careful and absolutely ask your vet first. Different breeds of dogs can have vastly different nutritional needs. Miniature Schnauzers are prone to pancreatitis, which is triggered by too much fat in their diets, so they do best on lower-fat foods. Dalmations are prone to kidney issues, and are vulnerable to…

Short / medium term: Gently progress in my strength training to reduce / prevent back pain. I sit at a desk all day, and have sciatica issues, so I've been gradually building back / core strength to mitigate this. Long term: I want to be able to do unassisted pull-ups :) Even two would be fine!

I second the idea to get a consultation. My local community centre gym offers free consultations with a trainer. I met with one and he developed a simple full-body weight training routine I can do, and showed me how to use the equipment properly to do it. As I progress I'll probably get another session with a trainer for a…

Hi! I'm 41 and I would like to get down to a 'fighting weight' by my 42nd birthday in May. Well really, I just want to fit into the cute spring and summer clothes that are in my closet. My weight has gradually crept up over the past couple years and I'm probably about ten pounds away from fitting into those clothes…

Way to go!!! I cannot fathom the inner strength it took to accomplish this feat.

ARgh - up 2.5 lbs. Hoping some of it is water and TOM, but a lot of it is eating like crap last week. Must do better this week!

Women's clothing sizes are all screwed up. I'm 5'8", weigh 155 lbs, and am roughly a size 10. However, I went and bought some new jeans on the weekend (yay!). I haven't bought jeans in a loooong time, and was down to just one pair that looked somewhat presentable. Anyway, I went into a store ( Lucky jeans) that appeared to…

Morning! One pound down this week, which was more than I expected given Valentine's Day. Yay tmdugger for 2.5 inches in one week! That's awesome!
-
I do this on days when I don't input all my food until after dinner. Like yesterday, realized that I was gonna need to get my butt over to the gym if I was going to end up at my goal. I think that if you're willing to "pay for" what you eat, it's fine. On days when I'm feeling too tired to work out, I make sure to be…

Happy hump day everybody! I think exercise is turning me into one of those annoying people who wakes up perky. A non-scale victory I guess. It will be interesting to see what the scale does on Friday, because although I've been good most days, Valentine's Day was unreserved gluttony. Oh well - back on the program…
