  • Meh. If it were up to me, I'd live in a different HOUSE from my hubby (who, for the record, I absolutely adore and think is ridiculously hot). I like my space. I like piles of covers and a hot room, and he's got a deviated septum and overheats easily. I like my space, he's a cuddler. I sleep through anything, he wakes up…
  • I love it on tacos/ burritos, in stir fry, on salads, mixed with dressing to make a crunchier slaw...
  • Haven't seen them in years, but they used to put on a good show. Also: HA! I just realised that MFP starred out the name of one of my bands *laughing* Well, maybe they just don't like Stukas over Disneyland *laughing more*
  • Man, I loved Kevin - he's still rockin', too. Nod to the OP: DRI kicks, but there's a lot here that's... Uh, not punk, y'all. I mean, I like OpIvy and No Doubt, too, but... Gimme some Descendants, ****ies, Vibrators, and Buzzcocks for my "pop" fix (not because they were founded for poppunk, but relative to what came after,…
  • I keep a 32-oz refillable bottle on my desk (mine is like this: http://store.nalgene.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=3 , but there are a blue million out there). I make it part of my routine to fill it up with ice water in the morning when I get to work, and a goal to need to refill it at lunch time. I have to have it SUPER…
  • Of my 21 (!!!) piercings, my nips were the most painful and difficult to heal - and I have snugs! *laugh* They're also the most prone to infection for me, and the ones I'm the most ambivalent about. I got them hoping to increase sensitivity (we joke that's my "dead zone"), but I have had no appreciable difference in…
  • NROLFW is a kick resource, as is NerdFitness, if you're interested. I lift. I love it. My goals are "do a little more than last time, every time," so if I have a higher weight, I shoot for lower reps in my sets; the next time I work that group, I increase my reps til I'm doing my full-rep sets at the higher weight. Then I…
  • Muscle is smaller and more dense than fat - you're building muscle. That's a good thing! This is one of my favourite reminders that the scale is not always the best way to measure: http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/ You're doing AWESOME. Keep it up.
  • I generally am mistaken to be the same age as the girlfriends of my boyfriend's friends - about 12 years younger (I'm 37, they usually think I'm 25). I've also gotten carded at the movies.
  • I'm from South Carolina, and live in North Carolina. No, we're not all related. No, it's not the same as Virginia. No, we don't shoot guns as we drive down the street. Yes, it's an actual city. No, we don't keep our money in the still. No, I don't think your racism is funny or cool. No, I don't have the rebel flag or a gun…
  • The body will shrink, lean mass will increase... but the weight loss will be slower than many find acceptable. I train 3x/ week on a body split (Upper, Lower, Upper one week, Lower, Upper, Lower the next) so I'm hitting the same group 2x/ 7 days. the first two months, I was REALLY annoyed 'cos my pants stopped fitting - my…
  • I dunno if this would help you - but for me, I found that the default settings on MFP were WAY wrong for me and my needs, so I did some research and talked to my doctor. to meet my goals, MFP had me set at 1200 calories a day - which is less than my body uses to sleep for 24 hours, much less living a life! *laugh* So I…
  • You may have been losing fat and building muscle - which wouldn't make a huge scale difference. I've lost very little weight, really, but the inches is where it's at. Losing fat isn't always reflected on the scale if you're increasing lean body mass.
  • I think if you take an estimate on how often you work and plug that in as your activity level - if you waitress 5x a week, that would be "active" for example - you should be fine. Put in how often you work and run from there :)
  • He may be afraid of it going to an unhealthy place, given your history with food abuse?
  • I'm 5'8" and eat to net 1450 or so.
  • Eh, I have to join the dissenters. When I set my energy expenditure to "sedentary" to reflect my desk-driving job, it set my calories at 1200 - which is less than my BMR, as calculated across ANY iteration. If I let my caloric intake be what MFP sets and refused to eat back my exercise calories, I'd be in a bad way pretty…
  • A pretty stunning infographic is on Yahoo today: http://finance.yahoo.com/photos/health-and-economic-consequences-of-smoking-slideshow/-photo-1340891145.html I did NOT know some of those stats. YOWZA.
  • I loved my contacts, but I was REALLY terrible about wearing them. Like, I didn't take them out. Finally, I didn't have an option - my doctor wouldn't prescribe contacts anymore because I was doing so much damage to my eyes, I was risking blindness or major damage. Six years later, I still have callouses on my cornea.
  • Do you have friends that you could do a swap with? My girilfriends and I do that sometimes.
  • The only thing that worked for me was deciding that this was ONE thing in my crazy mixed-up life over which I have control - one day, I just got REALLY annoyed that I was the pawn of this major company, and its product was keeping me a slave! i started really thinking about "why do i want this cigarette? What will it add…
  • About 6.5 years when we decided to go for it - two weeks later, we were married (neither of us wanted a wedding, we just wanted the legal ability to take care of each other in the event of an emergency, and there had been an object lesson driving home that very point not long before).
  • His wife stuck her tongue down my boyfriend's throat one night at a club. True story.
  • I try to eat with other people to slow myself down. I set my fork down after each bite. Reading helps. I also used to set a timer for myself - and challenge myself to take longer to eat than I'd set the timer for (I'm kinda competitive). I stop and really THINK about what I'm eating - analyse the flavours, what I like,…
  • I'm a slow loser, but I also work out a LOT. So my lean body mass is increasing steadily, though my weight usually only moves when I haven't worked out in a few days (muscle recovery is kinda heavy with water weight). Also, I find if I don't eat enough to fuel my workouts, that will slow me down too. Are these possibly…
  • I make a up a batch of Greek yogurt with protein powder and coconut oil (I like the fats) every Sunday night - I do about a half a tub of Chobani and three scoops of Muscle Milk (I like chocolate in plain yogurt or vanilla in my vanilla - I double up on that one, 'cos I really like vanilla). I eat about a cup of that every…
  • Too much cardio can actually kinda mess you up - I know lots of flabby runners, after all! Maybe add some weight or resistance training to your schedule? I know how addictive cardio can be (I LOVE that high!), but I see the better results when I use heavy weights or body weight resistance in my workouts (plank from yoga,…
  • He shook me up, he took me by surprise; he had a pickup truck and the devil's eyes!
  • I'm cracking up at all the people saying why they do or don't log cleaning as exercise, because it's outside their routine or is part of their routine or whatever. The reason it cracks me up? Working out is part of my routine now - I go to class, I do my cardio, I lift my weights... Every week. But I still log those, and…
  • For many, it's the cost in time that's prohibitive. Shopping, getting the food home, getting produce that's not beat up or wilted, taking the time to prep/ cook/ package lunches... it adds up. I'm lucky in that I have a 9-5 job and have the time to do this. Do I always want to? No, not after commuting and everything else,…
