  • I do some kind of exercise 5-6 times a week. That being said, I went from being pretty much sedentary, then started walking short distances and have built up to being able to walk 10+ miles. I started off shooting for 3 times a week and soon found that the more I exercised, the better I felt and the more I wanted to…
  • How about both! Set long term goals and also set mini short term goals. You tend to stay more motivated and more engaged when you see results, and shorter goals let you see resutls sooner!
  • Inspirational song for me in terms of my current get healthy journey: The Edge of Glory (Lady Gaga) Other songs that Inspire and/or speak to me: Talking to My Angel (Melissa Etheridge) Power of Two (Indigo Girls) A New Day Has Come (Celine Dion) Gently We Row (Melissa Etheridge) When I'm With You (Sheriff) Love of a…
  • Don't be discouraged. It's really hard to find that perfect balance of exercise and eating right, but it will come off. Some things to think about: 1. Do the foods you are eating have a lot of salt? You don't have to add salt for their to be salt in foods, particularly processed foods. Salt is a big inhibitor to weight…
  • That's a HUGE step (all puns intended). Seriously, great NSV. FYI - all NSV's are worth posting but this one you should be particularly proud of. WTG!!!
  • You've come to the right place. Lots of tools and helpful folks here. Think of it as a lifestyle change rather than and effort to lose weight. Once you get your head in the game, you will find that it is relatively easy and can even be fun! Lots of luck!
  • I'm no expert but I would trust the HRM. The machines just don't account for you specifically, they are sort of an average person with your height, weight, etc. While I would love to think that I could go lift weights for a short while and burn 700 calories, it just doesn't add up for me. I'm more inclined to think that…
  • What motivates me? Here are just a few things 1. My Life Partner. I want to be the best I can be for her, for as long as I can. 2. My MFP friends. You guys rock the house and while many of them see me as motivational, it's like priming a pump. You motivate me to help me get better, my success motivates you, which motivates…
  • Focus on doing other things so that you don't eat. When you feel yourself wanting to eat, go out and do something to burn energy and get exercise. THEN, when you come back, you will have earned some eating.
  • Hi there, 40 pounds IS a lot of weight. I just recently reached my goal of 100 pound loss, so I can tell you what has worked for me. These are my keys to weight loss: 1. Drink water and lots of it. Consider reducing your consumption of sweet / high calorie drinks. 2. Track everything that goes into your body on a daily…
  • WOW, Impressively unique and great group of folks in this challenge. Go US!
  • Well, unique is an interesting term...could be good or could be bad, right? 10 Things that make me somewhat unique 1. I have a bit of a sixth sense and often times feel things that are about to happen 2. I weaned myself off of hormone therapy a month after a hysterectomy and have never gone back. 3. I have been blessed…
  • That sounds amazing!
  • You have come to the right place. You will find many supportive folks and lots of great advice. Make sure to add new freinds that will help keep you accountable. Today is my one year anniversary on MFP. I posted a synopsis of my progress if you'd like to check it out. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/gatorflyer Good luck!
  • Not only will I wish you luck, I will also say that you are sooo gonna kill this! Don't forget, I'm still gonna be posting my Humpday Challenge! Have a great Month!
  • So, this part of the challenge is taking me WAAAY out of my comfort zone, posting photos that reveal every little flaw. I mean, yes, I look a whole lot better than I did 97 pounds ago, but there's no hiding these flaws. I guess it's part of the journey and a reminder of where I never what to go again. Hoing to see some…

  • Hi all, OK, lots to do in prep for starting this challenge and a crazy weekend so I'm going to have to do this in separate posts. Also, I will be gone from Oct 22-29 (Vacation in Maui - delayed trip form our 10 yr anniversary last year that got derailed by my surgery and my grandmother's passing) Soooo, I will do the best…

  • Pretty darned accurate. Polar is the best!
  • Fast Food, Pepsi, eating beyond being full, and being a slug.
  • Phenomenally inspirational. You were my first MFP friend and someone who I continue to look up to. Your strength and dedication are unsurpassed and I, for one, am a better person because of YOU. You look absolutely stunning and are doing it the right way. May the new Cory continue to enjoy the fruits of her labor and…
  • Not quite at 100 pounds yet, but does it really matter? I've been at this for a little under a year and have lost 95 pounds. I think that's pretty good. My secret has been hard work including regular exercise and reducing my calorie intake. In essence, changing my lifestyle. For whatever reason, it's easier for some people…
  • Cory, I think you just hit the nail on the head. It's the many years of being told all of the negative things that is so hard to get over. I won't bore anyone with details, but suffice to say, verbal abuse is NOT an easy thing to get over, especially when it comes from people closest to us and especially when we are young…
  • Boy can I relate to this. I happen to think that no matter how much weight I lose, I may look in shape but that won't change my overall physical looks. Unfortuantely, short of some medical intervention, that won't change. I guess I will have to live with it, and most days it's OK, but some days, well, it's just depressing.…
  • When I saw the title of this thread, I thought this was a rant about people saying that about you (or me, or anyone of us). It IS still a real concern that people (in particular, my mom) say that about me, but I'm ready to make them eat their words. As for Kirstie, hopefully she has learned some things along the way and I…
  • Changed up exercise routine and/or calories intake.
  • I think you should. Whether you ever go back to look at them or do anything with them or not, you can't go back if you later decide you "should have". It's also a good way to gauge progress, if so desired.
