The beauty about the 12 step program is that you can choose what your higher power is. You don't have to be religious, however if you are then you have a higher power to turn your care to. For those of us (such as myself) that do not have a religious preference we can turn our will and care over to something greater than…

You look like 2 different people to me. I mean, I know it's both you ;) but there is a BIG difference. It's such a shame that our perception can be so off from reality. I know when I was 145 I saw myself as if I was 185. Then when I got to 185 the denial set in so strongly that I wasn't aware of the weight that kept piling…

As long as you are eating whole foods you don't need to worry about fat. Fat from avocado, olive oil, and cheese is encouraged on a low carb diet. Your body needs more fat on a low carb diet because it uses fat for energy. Not that you should add extra fat to your meals but don't shy away from it. Fat also keeps you…

Day 1 Induction today. I can't wait to have the energy back. Atkins is the only diet I have found that gives me endless energy and keeps me satiated for long periods of time. Cheers to all you fellow Atkins dieters! Let's set some goals. I want to lose 40 pounds by June!

I love cauliflower mashed with a little of the hot water from when you boil the cauliflower, a little butter/margarine whatever your caloric intake permits, and seasoning of your choice. Good ol' fashioned S&P is always good. Green beans steamed with balsamic and a touch of salt. Asparagus coated in olive oil and grilled…

You look amazing! You will inspire so many people with your story and your real life proof.

I can SO relate! My mom is the worst! I actually caught her lying to me once about there being no sugar in something that clearly had sugar in it! I'm doing no sugar, no flour diet which is hard to accomodate, I understand but she'll go so far as to try to tell me it's got none in it or very little. I've just stood my…

Just from personal experience I would say do your walk before dinner. You can probably walk at a quicker pace this way and are less likely to pass it up. A walk after a meal is a good idea to help with digestion but if you're walking for exercise I'd suggest doing it before you eat. I walk a lot, I walk 4-5 miles 3x a week…

I've been very overweight for 8 or 9 years but my big wake up moment was my miscarriage. I found out on new year's '10 that they couldn't find a heartbeat. I was 20 weeks pregnant. I had names picked out, I was feeling "connected" to my baby and then I went in for my first ultra sound and was told I had a blighted ovum. I…

Hi all! Congrats to those who lost! SW: 206.5 CW: 205.3 GW: 186.5 I didn't lose 2 pounds like I had hoped but I am confident that I will lose more next week after my cycle begins. Yay for weight loss :)

I'm a little anxious about my weigh in tomorrow too (I read another post about this). I am pmsing and also started a low carb diet last Wednesday so I'm not sure what that'll look like on the scale. I also haven't been working out as much (still 3x a week so not terrible) because it's been scorching HOT here. But I will…

I am quite the opposite. I have had a sunny disposition, TONS of energy (and I'm pmsing so that is weird!) and I am sleeping better. Different bodies and minds respond different to different diets. Thank you for your input though, I like to hear what people feel and their experience with things.

Did you gain it all back while adding in carbs through the phases? I know when I did my version of this diet (not reading the book or doing the program as intended) I lost a lot of weight fast and then decided to start eating carbs.....carb overloaded and before I knew it I had gained it all back. I do worry about my…

There are a lot of people out there who claim they have done Atkins and turns out they just cut out carbs, didn't read the book or do the program as intended. I know because I was one of those people 8 years ago. It is true that if people do this diet the wrong way they will lose weight but once going off it comes back and…

I just want to "ditto" what everyone else has said I can definitely relate to your feelings and body image issues. I lost 25 pounds and after telling some people they seemed surprised. Uh that hurt. Hurt bad. But you know I'm not losing this weight for a reaction out of people. I'm doing this for me, I am doing this so…

I feel like bailing out of this challenge but I know if I do that I'm surrendering to failure and will probably weigh more than this by Thanksgiving. Aaahhh I need to get back on track like NOW. My weight a few weeks ago was 204 now it's 208. I am so upset with myself. I went on vacation and didn't totally blow off my diet…

Great job! You look like a different person, keep up the hard work because it's obviously paying off ;)

I hate my periods more than anything. They are evil. I gain anywhere between 3-7 pounds. YES really, that much! I too do not weigh myself because that is not an accurate indicator of my true weight. By day 2 I am usually back to normal but like I said I try not to weigh myself. And some periods are worst than others in…

The honesty in your post is the first step, it's admiting out loud that you are aware, responsible, and willing. Good for you! For a number of reasons (getting lazy after high school, enjoying too much fast food, steroid medication for uncontrolled asthma, depression/binge eating, etc) I packed on 68 pounds! I dropped 18…

It's great to celebrate but don't do it with food! LOL. That's how I've always celebrated. Now I've got a "rewards" list. For every 5 pounds I reward myself with things or activities. Congrats on your loss and new pant size. Just think of how amazing it will feel once you're pulling those jeans up and realize you need 14's!

I love salads but I have to be very careful because I can get burned out on them fast. Last night I made a new salad and it was a BIG hit. It's a Mango salad. It's baby greens, avocado, chicken, cashews, jicama (I used an apple instead and it was fabulous) and cut up mango pieces. For the dressing you take mango, paprika,…

This webiste continues to amaze me, thank you so much to all of you who have posted on this topic. I appreciate the perspective/reality check, the words of encouragement, and the honesty of your own personal experiences. I know that when I see a friend or family member with stretch marks it doesn't affect my opinion of…

I love this challenge and I am SO in! I need something to keep my focus on weight loss and not on food. My goal is to lose 22 pounds by Thanksgiving. CW: 204 GW: 154.5 Mini GW: 182 (by Thanksgiving) Weight loss= 2 pounds per week (I better step up the exercise!) Good luck to all, let's make "friends" and keep each other on…

I TOTALLY related to what you said, I have been there. It's hard to stay on track during the weekends. Friday rolls around, it's been a long week, you feel tired and just want to get some take out or go out. For me I can't plan to cook on weekend nights because I never know where we'll be or when we'll be home. So it was a…

No joke- I typed in sexual intercourse into the cardio exercise journal to see how many calories I burned. I was incredibly disappointed to see "no results". :blushing:

Tiliapia is delicious and healthy. I always thought fish needed butter to taste good but I found a delicious and extra healthy way to eat it. I bake them, spray them with olive oil spray (doesn't need much) add some lemon pepper and a few minutes before they are done squeeze a bunch of lemon juice all over them. Trust me…

Thank you so much for your encouragement through an honest testimony. I want to look as good as you :) You are stunning and you look strong. That is my goal. I want to look strong. I have an idea of a number I'd like to see on the scale, I have an idea of the pant size I'd like to be, but when it boils down to it I want to…

welcome to both of you women. MFP is incredible! I'm glad you got here and hopefully you'll stay here. It's an easy tool to use (and free! how cool is that?!) that is multifaceted. You can track your food intake, your exercise, set goals, track your inches, meet friends, ask questions and find inspiration. I love this…

PCOS stands for Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (for the woman who said she didn't know what it stood for). I have read a lot about it thinking I may have had it but have gotten mixed diagnoses from doctors. Now I side with the doctors who didn't think I have it. Anyhow, it's a very hard thing to live with and makes losing…
