Fantastic! Well done  Good luck with the marathon training! Erika

If you're riding all day, that will give you a few extra calories to play with, just don't go mad. Just try and be sensible at breakfast, and when you're out at the pub watch the alcohol. Probably more likely to do more damage then the breakfast! Good luck, and have fun. Remember this isn't an every day thing, so it is ok…

So I managed to put on 7 pounds over my birthday week! I didn't count calories, but I'm pretty sure I didn't eat that much more than usual! I've been counting for about 18m,onths now, so you'd think I'd have a pretty good idea. Goals for this month are to shifty the seven extra pounds and to do all my training for the half…

My brother in law cannot tolerate dairy - he has a very unusual reaction where it makes him extremely agressive. I think the condition is quite rare, but if you are eating more dairy than usual it might be worth considering. With anything like this, perhaps it is worth a chat with your doctor in case there are other…

There are many members here, who have achieved healthy, and significant weight loss without having surgery. You have to be disciplined and you have to be willing to commit to what you are doing, but it is entirely possible. Good luck, Erika

Hi there - sorry, I completely mis read your original post so what I wrote before doesn't apply...sorry! However... Looks like you're getting good losses, and perhaps your expectations are too high - the body can naturally swing a few pounds in either direction at any given time, so you're looking for overall trends rather…

You can do it James! Really watch the sodium, drink loads of water and be good

You could try upping gradually over a few weeks, so you don't have a sudden gain of calories. Say add in 50 - 100 calories to your calorie goal each week until you meet your maintenance number. Might help with the mindset not to have loads more all at once! Good luck. Erika

Hey guys - I've been a bit slack on the posting, although I have been lurking and reading. Welcome to all the newbies, good luck with all your goals  Things are going slow for me at the moment, I'm in the last 8 pounds or so of my loss and it is going, but it is going slowly! I've deliberately set my cals for quite…

Is it only this time of year? Could be hayfever. I use a nasal spray regularly during the season for all hayfever related symptoms and it definitely helps with the sore throat. Erika

Found you! I've had a bit of a bad month - not lost an awful lot, but to be honest I'm happy with slow at the moment. I really need to step up the running training for the half marathon. Got to be more regular with my runs! Hope you're all ok, Erika x

I don't get on with Gatorade, definitely causes me problems, but I have found Nuun to be ok. My osteopath did say that irritation to the vagus nerve could be caused by a tight upper body, so that could be gait/breathing related. Gas definitely causes me problems! Good luck working it all out. It might be worth keeping…

I'll try to find the info for you, I think it might be on my old computer. The description you give about the gas that is trapped after gall bladder surgery reminds me of an article that described a very similar thing after lap band surgery. At first the gas is putting pressure on the vagus nerve, and then the band itself.…

Montmorency cherry/tart cherry juice is supposed to help with inflammation, when drunk regularly. Here's a news article with reference to the original study underneath: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/04/100401131106.htm However, if your knee is really inflamed I would go see the doctor. Icing it and raising it…

I get a pain in my shoulder, which is very similar to a stitch when my stomach plays up (I have IBS) and I also sometimes get it when running if what I've eaten doesn't agree with me. My osteopath tells me that it could be the vagus nerve causing me trouble. It is to do with digestion and the pain refers up to your…

Back when I originally posted on this topic I had lost 38 pounds and hadn't lost a size. I was a UK 18/20. Well, it took me 40 pounds to get down to a UK16/18, but I've now lost about 62 pounds and am a UK12/14 depending on the fit of the clothes. Most my trousers are 14s, but some of my tops and dresses are 12s. I am now…

Agree with the honey, lemon tea. Honey is a natural antiseptic. Also, gargle salt water as often as you can stand to do it. 1 tsp of salt in 1 cup of warm water. Let cool and then gargle. Gross, but it will help. Probably no point in going to the doc unless it is persistent - probably nothing they can do. Good luck…

It sounds to me like you are in a fairly unique situation and should take your doctor's advice. Excess sodium can make you retain water, which is why it can affect weight loss. Too much can also be harmful to your health in the long term, but it sounds like you have other problems to consider and before changing anything…

It is also worth looking at some of the universities as they let out some of their student accommodation during the summer holidays. http://www.lsevacations.co.uk/ http://www.westminster.ac.uk/business/summer-accommodation

I'm a bit of a lurker on this thread, and this might be old news to you guys, but I thought you might find it interesting: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-10713775 All the best, Erika x

Hey everyone, sounds like you're all doing really well. Plant pot - try not to stress over it. If you've been doing the shred every day having not done anything like that for a while, you may well be retaining water and glycogen in your muscles. If you keep going you'll start to lose again. I've been on a plateau for…

Hey Tam, it's good to hear from you. I'm glad to hear that you are keeping on top of things and are finding you way through the bad times. Take care, Erika x

I'm doing the Royal Parks Half Marathon, in Hyde Park. Running with a team from work, and I personally am raiaing money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Good luck with your race on Saturday, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for a cool dry day for you! E

Hey everyone, KP - I'm sorry, I don't have any direct experience that I can help you with, but Norbert's advice comes across as very sound. Remove yourself from the situation (and explain why beforehand when he's sober). Good luck. Vent here as much as you need. We can always listen. I did the 10km on Saturday, and it was…

Wine is my complete downfall. No question! Rosemary Conley - a friend of mine did it and was very succesful, lost several stone and has kept it off. She's been in a lot of the wpomen's magazines recently with before and after pics. I can't remember exactly what is involved, but I think it is a low fat, calorie controlled…

WOW!!!!!! Well done   :drinker: :drinker:

Well done! I'm also envious of your tummy! You look great. Erika

Hey there, a 2 to 3 pound loss a month is still a good loss - it could be that you are just setting your expectations too high. No one wants to hear it I suppose, but there is no quick fix - these things take time (unfortunately!!). Try reading this post from Banks: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/9433-expectations…

Hey everyone, Just thought I'd pop in and see how you are all doing...better than me by the sounds of it!!! I had a bit of a bad week last week, as went home to see mum at the weekend and of course that meant wine! I just can't stop myself...I dunno where my will power goes. I've been a little light on the exercise too. I…
