  • I have one of these! I love him dearly, but DH and I are way more invested in his happiness and him having a good life than he is. I'm making light of a very serious situation here, because we've spent years in therapy with him. He's now 21, and we've known him for 10 years. He was 11 when he moved in with us and 13 when…
  • When it comes to the holidays, I agree with your SO. I plan on NOT logging on Thanksgiving and Christmas. On the other hand, if you're early in this process, I understand where you are coming from. It's hard, especially in the beginning, to detour from your eating plan. For me, I plan on working out prior to going to our…
  • I am prone to kidney stones and will occasionally use a protein shake to boost my protein intake. No issues since I started doing this. My protein intake was very, very low--less than 50g a day prior to starting MFP. Since this is such a big change, it's still hard for me some days to eat enough protein. Since my kidney…
  • I don't handle it well. On the outside, I smile and say "thanks" and then answer the "What are you doing?" question. On the inside, I'm thinking: 1. You treat me differently because of how I look. Not everyone, but this has been noticed. Some people do treat me differently now. Hard to pinpoint exactly how, it's in the…
  • I've posted this before, but when I started exercising I was 252 pounds. I could only walk a short distance, for a short amount of time. Start with what you can do. Today I'm 200 pounds and will jog (lightly) 5 miles. I did a modified C25K. Just because you can't run a marathon doesn't mean you can't run at YOUR level and…
  • Stop trying to please them. You're doing the cooking, make what you want and if they don't like it too bad. It's better for them. Of course they will still like the originals better, there are memories and homey goodness associated with that. Again, too darn bad. If they can't be supportive, I'd stop cooking for them all…
  • Agreed. It's hard to do, but it helps so much. I have a lot of pain now, I didn't when I was younger. I'd love to get it ripped out, but not yet.
  • I will take time off. I have trouble finding things that I can eat when I have a cold too, so that's a further challenge for me. I just eat what tastes good/what I can stomach and get back at it when I feel better.
  • The majority of my workouts have been at home on my own treadmill this past year. During the last 8 weeks, I've ventured into the fitness center where I work. The only one judging me was me. There are a few horror stories from people on here who have had a bad experiences from jerks, but I think overwhelmingly, those are…
  • :-( From someone who has BTDT. Infertility sucks.
  • I agree--my cardio is, as is implied in the name, is to improve my cardiovascular health. I've lost 52 pounds so far, going from a tight size 22 to a very comfortable size 16. My body fat percentage has decreased dramatically thus far, and I'm happy with the changes in my body. I am to the point where I really enjoy my…
  • Another vote for LOL"Doctor" Oz. He's an idiot. That said, multiple registered dietitians have recommended a little dab of the real deal (butter) instead of margarine or the fake sprays. You'll have to pry my Diet Pepsi out of my cold, dead hands. Dietitian knows when *NOT* to argue with me. Plus I love real butter and…
  • I tried it years ago, and had major diarrhea. I never lost control of my bowels, but it was frequent loose stools. It did not aid in any weight loss. I also had trouble eating the amount of fat that was recommended to take Alli, (can't remember the recommendations now) so it didn't make sense to keep taking it.
  • I don't have any info on WLS options, but best of luck to you as you research your options. Just wondering if pool exercise is an option for you? I have problems with one of my feet, and the pool is amazing. It's one of the few times I'm 100% pain free. I just wish I could access it more!
  • Awesome "self" work. Keep it up, and love yourself when you're done with the workout.

  • We are so close to each other! I started at 252 and hit 200 this weekend. Congrats! You look amazing.
  • Ultimately, health. I want to have a long, fabulous life. Diabetes sucks, and I'm at high risk.
  • I have been known to keep the Hershey's treasures, those little pieces of chocolate which are around 200 calories for 3 pieces, in my lunch bag. I will take one a day when I buy a bag for around 70 calories a piece. My RD recommends 100-200 calories a day that are "discretionary". She says use these for things like a…
  • Genetics and time. These two factors will determine loose skin. For myself, I will have a bit of loose skin. I'm trying to be a slow loser, but I can tell that my upper arms and tummy will have some loose skin. For the health, fitness, and energy, I'll take the loose skin instead of the fat.
  • Have you tried packing snacks/lunch with you on these day trips? Or have you researched the restaurants you're going to to find the best nutritional options?
  • I think it depends on the type of person that you are. For me, I knew I would get discouraged if I popped in an exercise video and I couldn't get through the whole thing. So I started with what I could do, which was walking on the treadmill, and for a set amount of time. It was pathetic in the beginning, but I set goals to…
  • If you have big boobs get an Enell bra. I buy mine on line, but they do have a store locator on their web site. It is a little like stuffing a sausage at first, but the back support is amazing and I can jog without pain or movement in that sucker. The heavy impact Danskin that Wal-Mart carries is okay, but nothing like the…
  • Amazing what you can accomplish with a thumb. Just remembered we had a cow and a dog that both loved beer.
  • I can't stomach avocado, but I do eat a lot of other types of nuts. I forgot about the skin issues, probably my dry, brittle, falling out hair was distracting me.
  • I have multiple anecdotal examples of adult cats nursing off of lactating mother cats as well. They mother cat didn't mind, and the adult cat doing the nursing looked like he was in absolute bliss. I've seen this many, many times.
  • Gotta argue with grown cows not drinking cow milk. Given the chance, they LOVE it. I've seen adult cows go crazy over it. For those that have concerns about factory farming, hormones, etc...look for a local producer or organic. Animals will eat something that tastes good just for that reason, just like humans. My dogs…
  • The changes in your face make you look like a totally different person! It makes me wonder how different I'll look in another 50 pounds. Congrats on all the hard work and achieving your goals.
  • Thanks for the encouragement, I'm a very slow jogger/runner, and this was a big deal for me. My goal is a 5K, and I know I'll get there eventually. I'm already walking that far on a regular basis, but my goal is to jog the whole thing. Will it be 6 months from now? Another year? Who knows, and who cares? My mantra is just…
  • I frequently hear this these days. There are several camps of people: 1. How did you do it? My answer is by modifying my diet--eating healthy, portion control, and exercise. This results in two responses: A. Oh, really? Bummer, I'm looking for a "program", ie, a magic pill B. Really? Cool, that sounds easy! What did you do…
