  • ^^^^^This!! The American Heart Association has lowered its recommendations to 1500mg/day of sodium. Cut back on the processed foods in your diet. Also remember that fluid retention isn't fat, and while we all want a lower number on the scale, I don't care if the number is because of fluid retention. I do care if it's fat.
  • I'm very impressed! Fast food has always been a downfall for me, and one thing that really helped me break that habit was switching jobs. Now that I only have a 3 mile commute and don't have to drive past a mile of fast food places, it's really helped. Yesterday I had to drive past a couple of fast food joints at lunch…
  • Just take the day off and get back on track tomorrow.
  • The RD's I work with say cooked for meats. A rule of thumb is that 4oz uncooked is about 3oz cooked.
  • Fat and protein. When I was on Weight Watchers, I didn't eat enough fat or protein, and the result was a lot of hair loss. This time, I'm eating more protein and fat and not losing much.
  • I love mine. I love watching that little flower grow and I love seeing the feedback of how far I've walked. It's encouraging to keep trying to do better each week. I joined a walking challenge at work and love how accurate it is compared to the little rinky dink pedometers that they handed out. I don't know if I think the…
  • I've posted this before, but hopefully this will encourage you. In April of 2011, we got a treadmill for my husband's birthday. A very nice treadmill, I might add. In November of 2011, I finally made a commitment to begin to use it regularly. While my husband was jogging away for 45 min with a significant incline, I could…
  • Go to the doctor. In the meantime, RICE therapy: Rest, Ice, Compression (Ace wrap) and elevation.
  • Congratulations on quitting. So happy to hear this, I can't tell you how many people I've cared for with chronic health problems as a result of smoking. You just saved your own life, and improved the quality of it. Nicotine is so addicting, and very, very difficult to quit. Have you decided what you're going to do with the…
  • There are a number of factors that can be at play here. First, look at your diet...are there are lot of processed foods? Excess sodium and MSG can be triggers. Artificial sweeteners can be a trigger. Some preservatives can be a trigger for some people. Second, as someone else already pointed out, high blood pressure can be…
  • Wow, amazing job! You look great. So much of what you are saying resonates with me. Keep on pushing forward.
  • I don't eat all of the extra burned calories that MFP and my Fitbit gives me. I was advised by my nutritionist to try not to eat back exercise calories. I took that with a grain of salt, though, and let my hunger be my guide. My weight loss has increased a bit since I stopped eating back as many calories. It's nice to have…
  • I have chronic pain and use NSAIDs daily, along with tramadol and tylenol #3. No issues with retention.
  • 5' and eat round 1600 a day, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. I do anticipate it going down a bit as I continue to drop weight, but I have lost 50 pounds eating between 1600-2000 calories a day, depending on exercise. However, I started at 252 pounds.
  • Do you have a lot to lose? I'm still over 200 pounds, but have lost 48 so far. I really think that if you are starting from a low fitness level, like I did, just focus on what you can do. I still have over 50 pounds to go to hit the high end of my acceptable weight range, and am now just getting more into weight training.…
  • That is so awesome, your trainer sounds absolutely amazing. We need more people like him (and you!) in the world, and less groupies.
  • Skim milk and sugar free flavor syrups. I like Sugar free vanilla syrup with 3/4 cup of skim milk, heated, and the rest coffee or espresso.
  • I must disagree with this. ALWAYS get the naan. It's too good to pass up! j/k. Get whatever you want and don't worry about it. One day "off plan" won't ruin what you're trying to do.
  • I was feeling this way a few months ago. Honestly, just admitting that this was hard and I was struggling seemed to help. I think acknowledging the fact that I'm not perfect, and that this is really, really hard helped. I think I was feeling like I had to be perfect, or I would be a failure. I really had an all or none…
  • Okay, here's our family list of weird food combos: My dad loves cheese dipped in syrup. The sharper the cheese, the better. He also loves sugar on raw slices of tomatoes. I like it too, but haven't done that in years. He also likes sandwiches of summer sausage and buttered bread with jelly. Yes, he is morbidly obese. My…
  • I had a morbidly obese woman in my ER tonight, 49 years old, who almost died of a heart attack. Her life will never be the same. I see a lot of excuses, obstacles if you'd rather, to why you can't do this. I won't disagree with you that is hard. I'd rather never have to think about what I eat and just eat what feels good.…
  • My husband and I recently went to a cheese class at a local specialty market. OMG, it was so freakin' good. The cooking demo included and adult grilled cheese that had thinly sliced granny smith apples in it. So amazingly delish! I didn't think it was appealing when he was putting it together, but I kept an open mind and…
  • I used to eat raw pasta as a kid, The dry crunchy stuff, not fresh pasta.
  • That's awesome! I can't imagine heels ever being comfortable, but I have MAJOR feet problems. Very cool NSV.
  • BP has always run low, but my resting pulse rate has dropped dramatically, like from hovering around 100 to high 70s. This is a result of cardio--mainly increased walking, and the weight loss.
  • ^^THIS!!! I've learned a lot more about nutrition this way. With WW, I was all about maximizing the volume of food I could eat with the least amount of points, therefore, I ate very, very low fat and very high carb. My hair looked like straw, and I was constantly hungry. I eventually snapped and swore I'd never diet again.
  • ^^^^Exactly!! Enjoy the day.
  • 1. Treat her the way you want to be treated. 2. Tell her you realize you could do better--acknowledging you know that you are falling short is very helpful. 3. Tell her she's beautiful, that you are lucky to have her, and that you love her.
  • I have a lab/rottweiler mix (see profile picture) and a German shepard/akita mix. My lab/rotty mix is almost 9, and won't jog outside, LOL. He will walk with me, but he won't jog. He just hates it and will stop and sit. He's also getting a little old for long walks so we just take him around the block now. We do have a…
  • Keep up the good work! This is not an easy process, be proud of what you've accomplished
