Sorry on reread I did pick that up and then couldn't edit since the site was down. I don't think it makes all that much difference. I have used home spring scale that were reliable and others that were not reproducible. I have also used home digital scales that were good or bad as well. Each of these will be different from…

Use a digital scale - cups and spoons can vary greatly and you can "pack" a lot more in with some types of foods as well as have less than you think with others. The weight of a food is not affected by shape or packability.

sorry double post when site went down

Bob, Diabetics do not need to manage just their sugar intake but their total carb intake. How this is calculated is also affected by the amount of fiber and the amount of protein in the meal. Take a look at the american diabetes association's website. There is plenty of good information available on their message boards.…

So good to go live! Just wait till you get your CGM -that will be a whole new learning curve! I'm glad I went live with the dexcom G4 before I did the t-slim. Amazing how much more info you get with the cgm. I had to change up the way I timed and ate my meals vs when I bolused. It made a big difference in my A1C once I…

Hi, T1 here just dx in January of this year at the age of 60. Had the usual must be a T2 since you're not a kid. but I was in DKA at presentation, BMI 24 and very insulin sensitive. Made my primary do the antibody testing that proved I'm a T1. Just started with my T-slim pump 3 weeks ago, and on the dexcom G4 the month…

Just went live on my t-slim on Tuesday afternoon. Take the time to play with all the features before you go to pump training. It makes it a lot easier. Have you done your basal rate checks, I:C ratio and CorF testing on your current MDI? It helps to have current solid numbers going in - less chance for the panic that first…

Two thoughts Your blood sugar could be spiking very high then falling rapidly. You can get all of those symptoms as you go high but also when you drop low. So what is in your smoothies? If they are high carb/sugar they can drive the rapid up and down. The MSG idea is also a good one - if you're sensitive you can get all of…

Lantus does sting and the burn can hang on for a bit. The intensity can be related to the size of the injection and a large dose given as a single injection can cause some referred nerve pain. Try splitting the dose into several smaller shots. There is also data out there that the effectiveness of a single larger dose is…

Don't mean to put down your need for a dog. Just trying to help tweak what you have now to to keep you safer while you work on getting one.

I'm using the dexcom G4 and had to set the profile to low since it was too loud. Have you tried the attentive setting? Also what do you have the high / low snooze time set for? It can be set to repeat every 15 minutes if you don't respond and it gets even louder the more it repeats. The other thing is where do you have the…

Not to put down service dogs but would not a CGM be a lot cheaper? The newer versions of Continuous glucose monitors let you see your sugar trends so you know which way things are headed. They let you take action before you fall off a cliff or go through the roof.

Hi, I was diagnosed this January as type 1 in DKA at the age of 60. You can do this - read - read- read - GO to the ADA website and check out the boards - there are a lot of really good people there. Also essential reading - Think like a Pancreas, Using Insulin, and if you're going to pump Pumping Insulin. Test, test, test…

Have you shown her MFP and helped her to use it? There are a lot of good groups here for people in her age group that are active ans supporting. Get her an account and let her troll the boards. Here is one example. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/30-50-fabulous-and-fit Have you helped her to figure out her daily…

Strenuous exercise will do that. You need a temporary increase in your insulin to cover the exercise period. Have you talked with your CDE/endo on how to dose for this? It can be trial and error so test frequently and be prepared. Stress hormone cause the liver to dump glucose. Think fight or flight. Do not skip the…

Take a look at tai chi the gentle movement helps mobilize the joints without impact and will hlep with balance too. Plenty of youtube videos out there. Just work on one motion set at a time. Some ot the sequences can be done seated if you have trouble standing.

Took a look at your food logs - if you are logging all you are eating then you are not eating enough!!! You are frequently eating less than 1000 calories a day. Your protein is low and I did not see much by way of veggies or fruit. Not enough calories, not enough protein, not enough vitamins and trace elements provided by…

Took a look at you food logs - you need to be tracking carbs - if your doc says to restrict fat you can just track total fat grams not all the subsets - it will let you see your carbs per meal. The total amount of carbs you are eating per meal is very high if you have pancreatic issues too. High carbs drive your blood…

Since you have a fitbit use it to decide what you TDEE is. Look at your weekly reports and see the average it gives you. Set your calorie goal manually on MFP to the deficit of your choise - 250 - 500 is a good number for sustainable loss. Don't use the MFP generated settings. You can increase your TDEE by being more…

I will doctor up premade sauces. Take. Jared sauce throw in a pot with diced onion, diced red and green peppers, minced garlic and smoked pork neck bones and/or. Italian sausage, turkey meatball, or whatever is handy. Simmer gently then add italian seasoning and a scrap ton of basil. Add red pepper flake if you want it…

It is actually the opposite - there is a lot involved with taking and dosing insulin properly so you do not go too low or too high. You need to time your insulin properly so your insulin peak matches you food peak. You need to match the amount of insulin to the amount and type of carbs. So there is a lot more to this than…

Try adding a scoop of whey protein powder after you cook you oats. There a a lot of good flavors out there so you can change it up. I like Optimum Nutrition whey protein isolate - it does not kick my lactose intolerance issues.

^^^^ all of this!^^^^ Do your homework - go on line and read every thing Alan and Lizzy have to say on the ADA website! Be sure of the type 2 diagnosis - did they do any other testing other than the A1C? I was just diagnosed the end of January - had sugars in the high 400's and was in diabetic ketoacidosis(DKA). The ER doc…

Stretching after you are warmed up and at the end of you session will help but the MOST important thing to look at at this point is you Running shoes. A bad fit will cause both of these conditions! If you can go to a running store and have them fit you - they need to look at your motion mechanics to know how best to fit…

No dice on 30DS it is notorious for trashing knees!

The scale lies! Lock it in the closet and ignore it. Take your measurements and follow you body fat% rather than a scale weight. Look at your level of fitness - your running and lifting - doing much more than you could when you started - and a lot easier than when you started as well. If you don't have your original…

Do not wait - call your Doc now- This can be sign of heart failure, kidney failure, high blood pressure, and major complications if your pregnant and should not be ignored.
