  • Would ask do you use CGM so you can show your endo the difference in degree of control between low carb and the carb levels that are being pushed? Will say that for me going low carb has made my ability to stay between 70 - 120 before and after meals possible. I'm no longer chasing highs or lows as the norm. Am able to get…

  • Try my version, chi spice tea with banana flavored whey protein powder plus cold press coconut oil. Breakfast in a cup.
  • Learning what will work for your personal version of T1 can take a lot of trial and error. Especially when the dietary advice given by "experts" is so far off base. Glad to see you are finding a way to lose the weight and the insulin resistance as well. As you continue to eat to your meter rather than to a carb quota, you…
  • Okulyd Re pump bumps - do you use auto sets or manual sets? Auto sets give me bumps where manual sets do not. Have read that the harder impact of an auto set starts a tissue injury reaction that causes the absorption drop off and scaring. Manual insertion is slower and more controlled and does not seem to trigger as much…
  • I'm currently pumping with a tslim and using a dexcom G4. I get 2-3 weeks of useful information/life from a single G4 sensor, and need to change my infusion sites about every 4 days. Why would I want to have to change out Both at the same time? The Medtronic CGM by report does not settle down for a day or two and then it…
  • Good books to read with lots of detail on how to do the testing needed to fine tune your pump are Think like a Pancreas, and Pumping Insulin. You can get both in paperback but can get them for e-reader as well. Pumping Insulin has become my go to when I need to make changes. Think like a Pancreas is an easier read as it is…
  • Nausea is reported to happen with symlin if the dose is too high or if it is advanced too quickly. Starting at the lowest dose the pen will dispense and then waiting a week before stepping up to the next lowest level has helped prevent the nausea for many users. Not the way the dose escalation is listed in the package…

  • http://www.tudiabetes.org/video/live-interview-the-athletic-diabetic-with-gary-scheiner-cde Have you seen this yet? It helped me work out how to exercise with out the crash and burn. I don't need to chase my workout with extra carbs/calories to cover lows any more. I am back to hiking with out the 55 double arrow down on…

  • I have a slightly different approach to lifting, I do it in the evening after a glass of wine. The alcohol occupies the liver so it does not have the urge to do a dump. One other thought is to end your lifting session with a HIT session. The extra cardio can compensate for the rise.
  • I break it down in portions by weight , or by cups etc. Check out the foods available in the food logs, since I do cook on occasion have a relative feel for how off the mark some the entries are and tend to choose ones on the middle to high side. I look for entries that match the carb and protein content that I…
  • Foil will work just be sure to tape a label on that says what they are so when you need a lunch you know what your grabbing. I do a lot of take away as well but I plan in advance for three to four meals, kebabs freeze well, as does rice etc. Salads get eaten first since they don't keep, samosas reheat well in the oven,…
  • It happens, portion and freeze the rest for meals later. No need to waste food. No need to beat yourself up. Then start to plan a response for the next time. Life happens so there will be a next time- but if you can practice a different response to your stressor then you can start to change the outcome. Wether its coping…
  • Opsite flexfix is a bit thicker then tegaderm. It does not flex as well for me and tends to lift around the edges and get skankier then tegaderm does. I used to put it around my Dexcom to keep it on better, but have found that if I use tegaderm under the G4 instead of on top/around the adhesive patch I get a secure…

  • No you are not alone. I use a dexcom and a tslim and am pumping diluted insulin. I use novolog and the pharmaceutical co makes a diluent for it. Need to get it through your endo if you want to try U50 insulin like I use. Once made it has the same shelf life as any open vial. My 30 day pump average of U50 are TDD 24.47,…
  • Dx'd T1 at 60, and I am on the same journey. Working in exercise with insulin on board can be a challenge. Feel free to add me. Currently pumping with T slim and using a Dexcom G4. The pump has been a convenience, but the CGM has been a game changer!!!

  • Call your gyno! Now! , I'm sure they have an on call service. Could just be extra bleeding post a missed cycle but could also be that you missed because you were preggers and that what's happening now is a miscarriage.

  • Use a food scale to weigh your portions. It is amazing how far off a lot of measuring cups are and how distorted our sense of what a portion is. Read food labels to see what a portion is then weigh it out! You will be amazed. If you can learn this it will make a big difference in your food choices and will be a big help in…
  • Have you asked your MD/practitioner about using metformin to help with the insulin resistance? It can help the weight loss a lot as well as going low carb diet wise. Other than that just know it will be a slower road but you can get there.
  • My basal requirement varies by time of day and how active I am. Over night I need more than I do when I'm on my feet and active all day. The same happens with my I:C ratios. The more active I am the more sensitive I am. And the reverse is true as well - the more I'm one with the couch the more insulin resistant I become. I…
  • Welcome, You are not alone here, more than a few of us fight the same fight. Add me if you want. I'm not a heavy rah rah poster but will chime in with ideas and D info if I think it will help. Always good to have some one to bounce ideas off of!
  • I'm using comfort shorts. Same as silhouette but is manual insertion. Like the slant set and personal control over placement speed and angle. Straight sets were convenient with an auto inserted like the Cleos, but I need 30% more insulin when I was using them compared to the comforts. Not having issues with sites gone bad…
  • I have been playing with temp basal and bolus rates to keep from going low on hiking trips. What I've found works for me for walking/hiking is not to drop the basal with a temp rate prior to my hike/walk but to exercise after a meal that I've only bolused for a third to half of the carbs eaten. This seems to keep me much…
  • Lucy, sorry to see you have joined the club. I was dx'd for my 60th bday. Working the exercise piece back in as a T1 can be a fairly complicated piece of the puzzle. I'm still struggling with it 18 months later. Have you found the community boards at http://www.tudiabetes.org/…
  • Amber, Can you get your SO/BF/BFF to do the measurements, record the weight and take a few pics with out you seeing the numbers etc. That way when you are ready to do a follow up, you can ask to see the difference. It gives you a reference with out it being in your face and driving the angst.
  • Just a few resources and links, there is a huge amount of information and support on the community boards at the ada website and also at tudiabetes. Not sure how much info your doc gave you or wether you are checking your BG Levels in relation to your meals but that is one of the best ways to know what you personally can…

  • And it may not be due to your D. I just had a weekend trip to the eye ER, for what turned out to be age related posterior vitreal detachment with a vitreal hemorrhage over the weekend. No retinal damage, no abnormal blood vessels, just a vessel tear as my vitreous was shrinking with age and tugging on my retina. Turns out…

  • Have been using the tslim for about a year now, was MDI before that. Love the pump and what it lets me do. More important to me is my Dex G4. That is an amazing tool. Have my numbers in a tight range around 90% of the time now that I use what I see on the G4 to adjust my foods, pre bolusing, temp rates, dual waves etc.
