spaghetti squash is great! and you can make "noodles" by putting zucchini, or other vegetables, through the shredding blade of your food processor, or even using a basic vegetable peeler. I have also used bean sprouts as a pasta subsitute. I still love the real thing sometimes, but there are lots of great subsitutes. you…

The problem with making bread from scratch, for me, is that i would eat the whole loaf!! my husband once wanted to buy me a breadmaker for christmas and i begged him not to unless he also bought a forktruck to take me out!!

my sister was on a doctor approved diet of around 500 calories per day. she lost 80 pounds in slightly less than a year...along with her hair, energy and suffered mood swings and other problems. within the year following, while on the doctor approved maintenance program, she gained 160 pounds, although the hair loss seems…

one more consideration is that this surgery is for very obese people who are more likely to have serious complications from any surgery, so it really is high risk.

sesame oil has a great flavour, or your favourite salad dressing, or a bit of lemon juice is great.

HAVE FUN!!!! try a new sport, or a dance style, martial arts, or zumba or anything active!! if you enjoy it you'll stick to it and you may even add in other exercise to do it better, and likely you'll think twice about what you put in your mouth because you'll know how it affects your favourite activity.
-
good for you! i agree, but I haven't been in that situation of considering surgery so my opinion doesn't really count for much!
-
WOW!!!!!!! that is truly amazing! you must be so proud of yourself!!!!!!!!

I'm training for a 5km too. I've never run that much in my whole life. So far, what has worked for me is running about 3 times per week so my joints don't hurt and on the off days I focus on low impact stuff, and stretching. it's also really helpful to choose a mantra that empowers you. i find as soon as I start thinking…

Actually, there are lots of days i have to be careful that my iron isn't too high on a vegan diet. Greens, lentils and beans are all naturally high in iron and many cereals and soy products are fortified. I highly recommend reducing animal foods in your diet. I've found that I feel more energetic and my digestion has…

I don't track regular everyday cleaning, but i absolutely track anything that is physically demanding and/or for a long time.

I have had several blenders including a hamilton beach, a magic bullet, and and I now have a Vitamix. It's really so far beyond anything else I've used, worth every penny! can't say enough good things about it.

i have slowly improved my health throughout my adult life and find it comes down to fun. I keep exercising because I love bellydancing. it is great exercise and I stick to my regular healthy lifestyle because of performances. keep trying new activities and new recipes, if you like your exercise and food, you'll stick to it!

yummy! can you use stevia instead, i wonder...

you already know I have green smoothies... but what about making a crockpot of veggie soup overnight? throw in all your favourite veggies (you can even use frozen and pre-chopped) some seasoning, and low fat chicken, beef or vegetable broth. you can add meat or beans, lentils or peas for protein. you can add rice, barley…

you can put green smoothies in a thermos. complete meal, easy to make and take with you.
-
both seem like good strategies, see what works for you!

I love spinach and apple smoothies! crazy sounding but delish! you don't take the spinach but it makes the apple taste so fresh and awesome, typically 1-2 cups of spinach for a large apple, and a bit of water. you can experiment with other greens and fruits too. google green smoothies.

I've read Victoria Boutenko's book 12 Steps to Raw a couple times now. I'm also looking at the book store library for more information. It makes sense to me to eat raw, nothing else on this planet cooks food, but it's rather daunting to completely change how I eat. Food is so social, not sure how to handle that, and I…

already sent a request! my diary is open. today was a challenge day for me so it is unusually good.

you know what? you have helped her! even confronting her to point of tears. she is asking for help and you are answering her. you can't do it for her, so let go of your attachment to the outcome. you never know how long it will take her to process your advice and act on it, in fact maybe she never will. stay positive, but…

I usually avoid orange juice. it is really high in sugar and really hits your bloodstream fast. in fact it is the most recommended item for diabetics if their sugar gets too low (risk of seizue, fainting or coma) try having a fresh orange instead, more satisfying, less sugar

a lot of great posts so far. I'd like to just add that we need carbs for energy and whether we need high carb or low carb should depend on how active we are rather than what some one else tells us. for protein we use a formula to create a percentage because the amount of protein we need is really based on our size and…
-
i agree with the others, have a small, healthy dinner and move on. one other thing I noticed in your diary, you didn't have any protein in the morning which may have caused your blood sugar to spike and drop. this can cause really strong cravings for more sugar. we can't rely on willpower alone so don't beat yourself up.…

most days I have a green smoothie. I put 1 or 2 pieces of fresh fruit and 2 cups of greens (spinach, kale, parsley or other fresh greens) in high powered blender. sometimes I add flax or hemp seeds.

it's so natural and feels really good. it doesn't need equipment and rarely causes injury. inside or outside, city or country it's all magical!

wow, I just love adding them to my tea!! what a fun texture! it really tickles my inner child!

keep enjoying the avocados!! they are high in calories but a great source of very healthy fat. I'm not sure how you eat them now, but they are great in salads, sandwiches, smoothies and veggie dips instead of nachos and other decadent treats!
