Many people do multiple rounds of programs like Insanity or P90X. So if you wanted, you could easily do another round of 30DS. By simply increasing the weight you use, you've got a great new challenge!

I know what you mean. I'm not doing the program to a T; I'm integrating it in with other stuff. But I am doing the workouts in the order on the calendar. I just finished Week 1, and getting going this morning was terrible. I was like, "Have I gotten in WORSE shape than when I started??" Answer: I doubt it. I think I'm just…

It really depends on your height, weight, etc. I did the Insanity plyometric cardio circuit today, and according to my Garmin HRM, I burned 422 calories. I am a 33 year old female, 5'3", and weigh 147. Hope that helps!

JM's Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism is a good step up. It's all cardio. Ripped in 30 gets great reviews, too, although I haven't done that one. That said, I do second the FitnessBlender recommendation. It's a fantastic resource.

I use a Garmin HRM and burned about 350 my first workout (not the fit test) last week. I am 5'3" and weigh 147. Good luck (and be prepared to get requests from Beachbody coaches)!!

PS. I lift 3x per week and eat around 1800-2000 per day. The scale has only moved a few lbs, but I have lost inches and am getting some nice shoulders and arms (to say nothing of my backside).

Question for the original poster to think about: is your goal to weigh 110 or is it actually to nudge your body composition toward looking better to your eyes, eg. looking more toned and lean? I myself am 5'3" and with the height and weights you are talking about, I am guessing that you actually want to look leaner -- in…

Ugh, I should just keep walking, but I can't resist.... I think there's no black and white answer. I think it's a range--a very wide range where there are lots of things in play. There are kids who are plump, or husky, or what-have-you. Abusive parenting? No. Room for improvement? Absolutely. And then there was the 8 year…

In the context of everyday eating, putting a cork on the sodium is a good thing. In the context of endurance athletics -- and as all of us here know! -- getting enough sodium is vital. There's a reason that aid stations in ultramarathons feature boiled potatoes with a bowl of salt. :-) As far as your actual question about…

The fit test almost killed me! :-)

Fitness Blender on YouTube has some great dumbbell workouts. Most cable companies have a free programs section. It's worth checking; TimeWarner and Comcast both offer free workouts. I hated 30DS, but I like her other videos that I've tried (Six Week Six Pack, Banish Fat Boost Metab.). As far as weights go, No More Trouble…

If you're thinking, "P90X sounds awesome, but it's an hour a day" and if it seems a wee bit too intense for you at this time, I'd suggest Chalean Extreme (CLX). It's another Beachbody program, though I got mine used off Amazon. I think of it as sort of a junior varsity strength program, as opposed to the varsity level of…

Exactly! I modify as needed, too, and I don't feel bad about it! As long as I keep plugging away, I figure it is all good.

It's not as bad as it seems. I was afraid that I'd die during the first workout, but I didn't. It's basically an intense warm up, followed by a great stretching period, followed by 3 rounds of intense conditioning drills. It's definitely challenging, but it's really not too horrible. Sure, I work at my own pace, take…

I think it probably helps with the marketing aspect. For example, the Marines Corps has the tagline, "The few. The proud. The Marines." That tagline wasn't an accident. They have the 100%-deserved reputation of being the toughest service branch. It all adds up to an aura of awesomeness, and thus they can be a lot more…

Congratulations! Lately I've been doing lots of reading about ultras and would love to see one someday.

Congratulations! That's a fantastic accomplishment!

Very timely post! I ran a half-marathon 2 weeks and thought I'd try Insanity for something new. And my husband is in the military, so he keeps fit too. Or so we thought. We did the fit test last night and nearly died. It brought us both to our knees. Very humbling, to say the least. :-)

Congratulations on tackling your first half! I did my first half-marathon on 5/19, and it was lots of fun. Just make sure to take it easy from here on out--maybe some light jogs, but nothing strenuous. Keep yourself hydrated. There's no need to do the old school "carbo load" thing, but I have to admit that I indulged in…

Great post--thanks for the summary! I have to admit that I hated 30DS but love her other DVDs. :-)

Mail it in and have fun!

It's not free, but between Amazon, Craigslist, and the like, you can usually find used copies somewhere. I got a new in the box set off of Craigslist for super cheap last month.

I don't have any advice re: TurboFire, but I just wanted to say that I'm sort of the polar opposite from you: I'm about 1/2 thru CLX and am going to be starting Insanity in a few weeks. My plan is to do a hybrid -- Insanity 3 or 4 days a week and CLX 2 days. Good luck!
-
Congratulations! Your results are wonderful. I'm 1/2 through Push and am eager to see what the end is like. This post inspires me very much, so thanks for sharing it with the rest of us!

Congratulations on your achievements! Very cool.

Congratulations on both your SL results and running your first half-marathon! Woo hoo!!
-
Congratulations! That is a huge accomplishment. Best of luck with training for your half!

What a neat story! Go you!
