Personally I find exercise a great way to manage stress and we're living in a very stressful time right now. That keeps me pretty motivated.

You're not alone. They just canceled Ottawa Race Weekend which I think was the right thing to do and I'd be very surprised if the 70.3 goes ahead at Mt Tremblant in June. I'm trying to keep up with as much of my training plan as a I can (no swimming as the pool's closed and there's still ice on the river so OW may be a…

I'm lucky that there are, even when things are "normal", very few people using the recreational paths at 6AM but I have noticed quite a few people using them in the early evening and many of them seem oblivious to maintaining anything close to 6 foot spacing. I may just delay bike commuting this year as I don't want to be…

If they don't stay away from you you can stay away from them. On my run Sunday I didn't see a soul.

Great idea (for those of us not to have had our incomes disrupted too badly)

Kudos on the wight loss & the determination to stick with your exercise program in what sounds like some pretty awful conditions. If you're looking to put on muscle you do need recovery time, it may sound counter-intuitive but sometimes less is more. You may find that you progress more quickly if you did your bench press…

It's a conundrum.....these gyms still have to pay rent while they're closed and some may be paying staff (I doubt too many of them) while they're off. On the flip side many people right now have had their incomes interrupted / reduced and might not be able to absorb the additional cost at the moment. The question is.....do…

Nice rack! :D

Not entirely accurate, if you're dressed properly for the weather (typically for running you'll dress as if it's 10 degrees warmer than it actually is) it takes very little additional energy to stay warm. OP I run all year 'round and it gets down to -10C on occasion in the winter. With the right layering you can be…

Do you have high blood pressure? Are you getting enough potassium? [url=https://health.harvard.edu/heart-health/sodiumpotassium-ratio-important-for-health[/url] The only thing you got right was to call a doctor, kindly refrain from giving conspiracy theory driven bad advice.....

How long have you been running for? Are you going up an incline? Does it stay that high or drop back down once you're warmed up? Is your HRM a wrist one or a chest strap? Mine will do that at times deepening on how much sleep I've, hydration etc and then usually settles back down after a few minutes. I also noticed that I…

Unfortunately MFP doesn't seem to be able to do that but it is the miles that matter.....

It was a little chilly this morning but the sun was shining and hardly saw a soul on my run (and I was running on the roads as my beloved recreational paths are a sheet of ice at the moment, balmy temperatures & melting last week followed by plummeting mercury)

Is it your sweat (more carbs) or your clothes? If it's your clothes try soaking them in dilute vinegar before laundering or add a scoop of borax to your wash.

You may get leaner as a result of losing body fat if you're restricting calories and have more definition in your legs but no one "bulks up" by accident. Putting on any appreciable amount of muscle takes lifting heavy stuff and a caloric surplus. Running is also superior to walking in respect to cardiovascular fitness and,…

I'm fortunate to have a reasonably well equipped home gym so it's not an issue for me (no more shaking hands with clients at work & encouraging them to submit documents electronically) but I had a conversation with my son about upping the hygiene at his gym (shipping him spare 1200 ml container of hand sanitizer - should…

I'm with the others, it's unlikely to heal in this short of a time frame. Not running a race is a bitter pill to swallow but is sometimes necessary (I had my first DNF last year and I hated it....) Have you considered walking it?

Unless she's race walking (or doing high intensity run intervals) I'm surprised that she's be getting anything for anaerobic as it's heart rate based.... https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forerunner935/EN-US/GUID-7275629E-743A-4658-A284-C84F42A66AE5.html

When I started running the idea of being seen in running tights in public mortified me and then I realized that I was just part of the urban landscape and no one, other than other runners, even noticed me. The other runners, at least in my community, have the habit of acknowledging each with a little wave or nod. Even when…

LOL, mine reset when I started using my new Fenix 5.......with my old 920xt I was (and I take this with a grain of salt) in the top 10% of my AG now my fitness age is several years older than my chronological age. At least my bike VO2 max is back up to 36 and rising, apparently it's take a few more runs to get the running…

Not enough in my case.......about 90 min a week, the rest of time is sunning, biking, rowing etc.

I'm 64 and, according to my Fenix 5, my HR hit 189 last week on a brick run (after a 2 hr sweet spot interval ride) so I'll be wearing a chest strap again for runs as I'm not sure I trust the wrist measurements. Don't worry about 220-age, there's no science behind it and, apparently, it was doodled on a cocktail napkin as…

You can lose weight without any exercise at all (not that I'd recommend it but google the twinkie diet). It's all about energy balance, consuming fewer calories than you expend. Walking is a great low impact activity, while it may not burn as many calories as running it's something that we can do 7 days a week, 365 days a…

If it fits in your calorie goal enjoy a cold one or two. If you're worried about heavy drinking and its health effects that's a different conversation. Weight loss is not about denying yourself the foods (and beverages) you enjoy; it's about eating fewer calories than you expend in a sustainable manner ie developing habits…

Yes, assaulting people is always the answer......

In that case you're not limited by the machines, with the exception of cable pulls & lat pulldowns you can do pretty much anything else with freeweights.

Does it have free weights, racks and benches?

Parlez vous anglais? :p

MFP is designed to have you eat back exercise calories but that make two assumptions......1) that the exercise calories are reasonably accurate & 2) that you're logging your food consumption accurately. Given that many fitness watches, heart rate monitors and cardio machines are wildly inaccurate and people have a habit to…

To calculate net calories burned walking (ie additional calories attributable to exercise) multiply .30 x weight (in lbs) x distance (in miles) eg a 200 lb person burns approx 60 additional calories per mile walked unless you're walking at more than 5 mph or at a significant incline. But I'm with you.....treadmills are so…
