Makes sense to 99 percent of the world! 😁

It sounds like he's bought into the "fat burning zone" nonsense. It's true that less intense exercise burns more fat as fuel relative to carbohydrates but the fuel source has absolutely nothing to do with fat loss (it is important if your goal is to become an endurance athlete, as a fuel source most people have a lot more…

Did you have your gait checked before you bought them. Different models of shoes fall into two broad categories, neutral which offer no moti0on control and stability / motion control shoes to compensate for under or over pronation. It almost sounds like you may have bought the wrong type of shoe for your gait. It's also…

Eating fewer calories than you expend is great for losing weight. Exercise is for health and fitness and may help you acheive/maintain a caloric deficit (I love my 1,000 calorie breakfasts after a long run). Without knowing what your cardio workout is (duration / intensity) it's impossible to guess which burn more calories…

Very similar to the Health Canada guidelines.

Due to an injury (fell while running, I'm so graceful....) shoulder press...

"Really fit" is a very subjective term. Are you doing enough to train for a marathon or to become a power lifter? The answer would be no, but it all depends on your goals.

Sounds like it's time to go tubeless!

Yes, you can even do it eating nothing but junk food (google "Twinkie Diet") as long as you're consuming fewer calories than you expend (I really don't recommend this though as it's not very healthy).|

Same here, when I upgraded to the Fenix with the wrist HRM I was getting insanely unreliable number running. Switched back to using my chest strap and problem solved.

LOL funny you mention that. The first metric century I ever rode gave out jerseys that perfectly matched the colour scheme of my Defy, when they changed their jerseys I jokingly suggested that I needed a new bike.
-
Have you considered a Giant? Having ridden tens of thousands of KM on my Defy (plus my MTB is a Giant) I have to confess that I'm a little biased towards them. In Canadian Dollars the Revolt 0 comes with a 105 groupset (the newer 105 is what the older Ultegra was) and alloy frame for C$2,199 (probably closer to $1,500 US)…

This is why I never recommend specific shoes......both of these are stability shoes and to recommend them without knowing whether or not the OP over or under pronates is folly. Don't get me wrong, I've been running in Asics (a neutral shoe) for well over a decade and love them but what works for me may not work for the OP.…

I would be inclined to go with the lower number, many machines grossly overestimate caloric expenditure. (I'm a little concerned that the machine also shows you taking 43 min to go 1.48 km, it seems a bit off - even walking at a fairly relaxed pace you'd probably go at least double that) Not sure which model of Garmin…

My fitness journey began with walking. It's great exercise, low impact and something you can do 365 days a year (if you've been sedentary for a long time like any other exercise start off slow & short & build up), and only requires comfortable clothes & shoes.

Getting a power meter a few years ago was a real eye opener. Bikes are insanely efficient so unless you're riding hills or have a bike that has tires with terrible rolling resistance you burn surprisingly few calories for the distance traveled. My Garmin, before power meter, would routinely estimate about 30 to 35 cal per…

This is the mask Galen Rupp wore in 2011 when he won the 10,000m at the USA Track & Field Championships. He has asthma and severe allergies and, apparently, the pollen count was off the charts.... https://u2sportmask.com/product/u2-sport-mask/

When I was running a lot more a few years ago it was 48, now it's in the mid 50s.

Yep, nobody (including men) gets big by accident. Bodybuilders spend years and years working on their physiques and follow specialized diets (you don't bulk up at a caloric deficit). Thank you for your post....
-
My experience has also been that wrist based HRMs are not as accurate as chest strap ones (I was getting some bizarre numbers from my Garmin Fenix while running before going back to the chest strap) Don't fixate on HR zones but on perceived effort instead. Most of your workouts should be at an intensity where you can carry…

Nice ride! I've always been fond of Giant bikes (my road & mtb are both Giants)

I missed about 6 weeks of running when mine acted up a number of years ago (my own fault......100km bike ride followed by a half-marathon a week later.....and I tried the foam rolling, stretching etc etc etc. That was when I discovered deep tissue massage, several intense sessions later I was running again (pain free) and…

I'd need to win the lottery first!

My biggest advise for new runners is to slow down and then slow down some more.... I suspect that practically every new runner (myself included) thinks that every run should be a race, it's not. Building endurance takes time and lot of slow runs. Short (with walking intervals if needed) at first and gradually building…

I did this morning's ride using TrainerRoad......I couldn't stand the idea of nothing showing up in Strava for 2 consecutive days.

I hr Trainer Road Z2 ride

Been there, done that......I did stronglifts while I was training for a half marathon and as the squats got heavier and the runs got longer I simply didn't have enough recovery time. My solution was to only squat heavier 1 x weekly and do either goblet or sumo squats with a lighter dumbbell on the other two days. You could…

8 km / 5 mile Z2/low Z3 run......it was barely drizzling, with the heat and humidity I was hoping it would actually rain.

I did my first virtual race this past weekend. During a normal race season I'll typically participate in at least two straight running events and three to five sprint / olympic distance triathlons, this year I was supposed to race my first half-iron distance tri. Covid-19 had other ideas and like many others found myself…

In terms of fat loss any machine will be equally effective when combined with a calorie deficit and consistent use. You can lose fat with zero exercise but with a regular exercise program you'll also gain fitness. Personally I've never used an elliptical (I'd much rather be running or riding on the open road) but Know lots…
