I don't see why anyone - skinny or not - should be offended. The OP doesn't have the aim 'to be skinny' and regardless of whether her reasoning behind that goal or lack there of is correct, it's completely down to her whether she aims for a skinny body or not. I'm with you OP. Not for the reason that I CAN'T be skinny. I…

I agree, weightloss is about having a calorie deficit...caused by modifying what one eats AND the addition of exercise. I don't see the two as separate, personally. Anyway, the point of my response is this: the true purpose of the elliptical is to help create a deficit in energy, build fitness and not impact on the joints…

I am so overwhelmed at the support for this post and for my decision to not go with the flow of my family. Thank you ALL. This morning I felt so confused and even though I know the deal, it's hard not to feel the pressure sometimes and wonder 'maybe I'm not doing the right thing, maybe I should just follow suit' but you've…

Oh, by the way. Thanks. Truly. Thank you. It means a lot. My heart just feels so much happier and it's because you have completely understood me from my rant. Thank YOU.

Exactly that. I keep explaining to them that we don't know the true long term effects of this, we don't know how it affects childbirth and even where it's said that X number of GB patients have given birth to healthy babies, we're not talking about thousands, we're talking about a small number and while the babies are…

I have a separate living space from them and always cook my own food for me and my partner, because 11 years ago, when I was leaving to start my degree, I decided that I had to take responsibility for what goes into my body so everything - pretty much - is cooked from scratch. That's not to say I don't eat out or get a…

Amazingly motivational, I really needed this today. Probably more than you could ever know. It's just one of those days where you end up going 'everyone around me is saying this, am I the crazy one?' I think I just needed a verbal kick up the bum, and you sorted me out. Thank you. So, so much :) xxx

Quick calories are a killer. You've opened your diary but - I'm guessing most here are mainly English - so taking a look a your diary, even if I can't work out what each item is, I can see it's calorie dense. That's fine, but you don't seem to have any lesser dense foods, such as mixed veg, fruits etc. I could be wrong,…

Wow. Just wow. Beautiful, lady!

You can count me in, but my weigh in day is a thursday :) It's going to be a tough month for me, I'll be (mostly) without the gym that a usually go to 4-5 times a week and also, I'll be staying with my parents, which means them trying to fill me with non-healthy foods :/

beautiful bone structure :)

Until last week I was pretty unaware of what anyone was particularly wearing in the gym... ...until a couple of women - applying foundation and re-attaching their hair extensions and false lashes (I kid you not) - decided to stare and giggle at me for wearing cropped leggings, a t shirt, trainers with my hair tied back. My…

It's this whole 'cheating' attitude that'll get you back into trouble! If you eat healthily the majority of the time, why not have something less healthy and count it into your daily allowance? If you deny yourself some hedonism once in a while, you're only cheating yourself out of enjoying food AS A WHOLE. I'm not saying…

I think the key is to eat healthy higher calorie foods, like adding some almonds or some peanut butter? You don't need to be frugal with your calories, so enjoy them!
-
Fantastic advice, thank you :)

Thanks everyone! You've all been really helpful and reassuring too. I'll get stuck into more weights :)

It seems too good to be true that exercise and good eating can solve all this alone! I do believe it though, I think I just find it hard to see the end right now.

I was wondering how many MFP friends I should go for the other day. I think I'd be happy with around 30. I like to keep the personal touch you speak of. I deleted half my 'friends' on facebook because I realised that some of them were no longer relevant to my changing life. Sounds harsh, I know, but I've only got so much…

My work - at the moment - requires me to sit for anything up to 14hrs a day. Days that I do less desk work and have more free time I make an effort to go to the gym (4 times a week, if possible) and the days where I work a lot, I tend to either go shopping (walk in to town and carry it back) or do all my chores as…

I gained weight by being obsessed with my weight. Then I gained more by developing an unhealthy diet of practically alcohol alone. Then I ate.

Love it!

Wow. I love to exercise, but sometimes my work doesn't allow time to exercise. I'm a freelance creative practitioner and production manager. Sometimes I'm rigging equipment, climbing up and down 8m for hours every day. Sometimes I'm sat at my desk, at home, researching, coordinating and planning. Working a 14hr day in…

I laughed so hard! Cardio is like a necessary evil to me. (and it makes me realise I'm alive)

Excellent post. I'm so glad you wrote about your experience. I've existed on really painfully low diets. I'm ashamed to admit though that - in the past - I've happily indulged in a daily intake of less than 900. Did I suffer for it? Yes. In many ways and the effects were not all immediate. Extreme dieting felt right. I…

Of course, I don't just eat these meals, but that's an example of what we planned over the last week :)
-
I plan my meals every week! I make 3 bean chilli with just a little minced beef which works out really cheap. If you buy a small pack of minced steak, you can also make a huge beany cottage pie with mashed cauliflower with the 2nd half of the pack of mince, or maybe try a vegetable heavy mince lasagna. Eggs, onions,…
