I struggle with the same issue. Lately, I've found that adding Zipfizz to my water helps a ton. It's a natural healthy(ish? haven't done all the research I will admit) supplement that provides electrolytes and vitamins. Some flavors are better (and stronger) than others, but I find after drinking a bottle of water or two,…

Market salad from Chik-fil-a. It's the one with mixed greens, chicken, berries and granola. The apple flavored dressing packs the majority of the calories but I find it's too much anyway and only use about half. It's delicious!

Ha! Yes, to the smuggling. I go to Walgreens first and get the big movie theater boxes of candy for $1 and if I'm feeling extra cheap and healthy, I'll get a bag of the white cheddar popcorn. My first job was at a movie theater and I'd find all kinds of stuff after the movie. Tiny liquor bottles, giant malt liquor bottles,…

I'm over the moon for you, girl! You're amazing.

lol @ "I reach for cheese."

What a coincidence...I've titled my current marathon training program "26.2 before 30." I'm 29 as well. :) My advice is to start training on a set schedule right away. And yes--you want to get those "long runs" in once a week to build up your endurance and get your body used to running long distances. I'm relatively new to…

r/running. Also, just recently I perused the boards and started friend requesting a bunch of runners. Now my daily news feed keeps me inspired. I have a lot of friends on mfp who are straight beasts! Oh and races. Register for them then create a training schedule. Knowing I have to mark each day off my calendar keeps me…

Yep, I have the same problem. I've found it helps to lay flat on back with my knees bent, feet on the floor. I cross one leg over the other and draw imaginary circles with my foot stopping and holding wherever it hurts. I'd like to hear what other people have to say as well because that's the only part of my leg that seems…

I have done one half but I'm training for my second and then for a full afterward. I've only used Hal Higdon's program but I was able to finish the half strong with no walking on the Novice schedule. As for intervals in general, I have mixed feelings. I'm trying to incorporate some walk breaks on my normal 4 milers (where…

I struggle with my diet too! Let me just linger here for a bit...

Aww...not if you don't let it! Gotta love The Oatmeal though...I wouldn't have guessed him a runner. :) Also, I may or may not have geeked out and got on the list for a blerch tech tee. Ha!
-
My blerch is an *kitten*. I'm right there with ya, girl. ;)

Oh wow! You should definitely come back. :) I never want to leave Southern California now that I'm here. I've checked out the Disneyland ones too--they sell out fast! I've yet to run one but I'm all salty that you don't get entrance into the park with such a steep registration fee. lol

When you head out for a quick run with more accessories than is probably necessary (watch, chest strap, headphones, arm band, phone..."ok gotta sync the HRM, iPod, RunKeeper...GO!") Haha
-
These had me cracking up. Sounds about right!
-
That's hardcore! Runners and their numbers... :)

Glad I accidentally stumbled upon this group! I've read a few of the introductions--y'all are an inspiring bunch. I'm Heather. I grew up in Phoenix, AZ and now live in San Diego where it's always a gorgeous day for a run (read--no excuses!). I've lost about 25 lbs with MFP and plan to lose about 10 more. I'm quite positive…

Ooh ooh! I wanna play... * You weigh your junk food options in terms of how long it will take to "run it off." * You have to limit the races you register for because it's breaking the bank. * You silently applaud other runners you drive past on the street (while resisting the urge to yell encouraging words out the window).…

Wow, I got chills reading that! I can't wait until I can say I conquered 26.2. Thank you SO MUCH for the advice. Especially #4--I heeded similar advice during my half and had so much more fun. It made the struggle much more manageable when I mentally stopped to take it all in and remembered to have fun. Also, LOL @ "I…

That's great advice; thank you! I've never even heard of the lactic acid threshold. I'll be looking into that. Congrats on your races! Best of luck on the full...it's such an incredible goal. :)
-
Thank you so much! I'm so excited. :)
-
Ah, so that was my mistake! Not exactly looking for the creepers though... :)
-
Best of luck with your upcoming races! I love your city. :)

@southerndream, that sucks about Napa. It's so breathtakingly GORGEOUS there. Hopefully you get a chance to run the next one. I've checked out the Disney ones too, but they fill up so quickly! Plus, I'm all salty that the steep registration fees don't include entry to the park. What?! Haha
-
Definitely looking into Galloway's program. That's good to know. I also noticed the 20 mile max in the Hal Higdon schedule and wondered if that would be enough. Isn't 20 normally where you hit the wall? Yikes. Congrats to you, too!
-
Aww yay! I'll send you a FR. :) I'm excited for us both!
-
Word! That's an amazing time, girl! I actually looked at registering for the Napa one--that would have been awesome--but decided on something closer to home. If you have an open diary, I'd love to creep it and see what you're eating. I struggle so much with my diet. P.S. If any of you are on runkeeper, PM me and we can…

I hear you! Most of my friends and family think I'm nuts. I have a girlfriend coming in from out of state to run it with me, but my training will be a long, lonely road. lol I'll have to look into the galloway schedule. The longest programs I've found were about 18-20 weeks so I was thinking I'd have to wait a while to…

I suppose that might be helpful, huh? :) Started running about a year and a half ago, completed a few (terrible) 5Ks then started getting more serious about it. I completed a half marathon this past spring with a time of 2:26. My main goal was to run it without stopping and I did. Although I'd eventually like to beat that…
