Thaw them first. Rub with spices (garlic, onion powder, rosemary, etc. I like cayenne) medium temperature about 7-8 minutes depending on thickness.

Yes you can! Look around for some amazing success stories. Most important – this is NOT a "diet website" it is a "change your life website" you are developing eating and exercise habits that will keep you healthier for the rest of your life. So don't adopt a crash starvation diet or mentality. Find good foods that give you…

My doctor gave me the choice; "Wear a back brace for the rest of your life, or build your own brace out of muscle." And so I swim. Finding a knowledgeable trainer or physical therapist is probably a good idea but look around for someone with the necessary specialized experience

My grandmother's advice; One night a man was following her as she walked alone. She turned around, walked back to him, and said; "Don't I know your mother?" He turned and walked away.

Good point -- the food companies want to take advantage of the "good" words, even if there is no benefit to the nutrition of the product. Read and then make informed choices.

Let me aim some comments at those who are not yet ready for "full scale" training. First of all, swimming gives you cardio along with very low impact resistance training, this means that you can get started pretty much regardless of your current physical condition. Swim the stroke that you are most comfortable with (or…

All of the Harry Potter books were "translated" into American English before being released in the U.S. Not only are words changed, the grammar is modified. Here is a link: http://home.comcast.net/~helenajole/Harry.html "England and America are two countries separated by a common language." Attributed to: George Bernard…

Speaking just of the literature on antidepressants, weight gain is a frequently reported side effect. Different individuals may respond differently to various antidepressants, so some doctors will try different drugs to find one which has therapeutic value (the doctor's first concern) but minimal side effects. The action…

The lesson here is start easy. A little slow exercise is far better than sitting on the couch. Track what you do so you can see improvement and especially don't try so much that you get discouraged. Your body WILL get stronger but at its own pace.

I am a regular swimmer and if I have time to think about the other swimmers then I am not pressing hard enough. Sorry, I won't even know that you are there unless you pass me, and then it is only to wonder if I can pick up my pace.

Tonight's dinner West African Groundnut Stew (Moosewood) http://www.food.com/recipe/west-african-groundnut-stew-moosewood-333170 No okra in the market so we used kale. Will serve it over modest amounts of brown rice. Amazing flavor Still trying to perfect sweet potato fries. Oven 425, spray with olive oit, cook 15 min,…

I don't enter coffee or diet drinks I also leave out condiments -- especially when used as part of a recipe. That is, I'll record a tablespoon of mustard on a sandwich, but not if it is included in a soup or sauce. And in a dish with three kinds of green vegetables I have been known to call it all "broccoli."

Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches -- 140 cal each. A reward for a trip to the gym Home made gorp -- mostly raisins and dried cranberries, control the calorie count (I try to keep it under 130 cal/oz) by the amount of nuts (walnuts and almonds) it helps with a craving for sweets.

If you haven't, start recording measurements -- adding muscle and loosing fat will show there. Have you noticed any recent changes in the fit of your clothes?

Your poor health raises my insurance rates and/or taxes. Now if your health is just a matter of luck then it is reasonable for society to spread the costs. On the other hand, if you choose behaviors which raise your chances of poor health …

Actually this site has taught me tolerance. Now when I see an obese person a part of my reaction is "that may be someone who has already lost 30 pounds on MFP." I may have been cheering for their latest post! I hope that they look at me with the same idea.

Absolutely get medical advice. Especially since, if he continues with wrestling he will be under pressure to drop weight on a regular basis. And coaches do not always give the best advice! I think that it is never too young to teach healthy eating. When our son was about seven we had a sugar limit on the cereal we would…

I'm over the top and haven't had dinner yet -- it will be salad with VERY little dressing. The gym closed at 6 so we didn't get there. But hey, I was careful all day -- more so than I have been in many years. That is something to be proud of.

Life doesn't actually start until 70 -- a number I am still months short of. I already have a trophy wife, (she is dieting with me.) Just now a bicycle looks better than a sports car (more calorie burn.) I haven't had time yet to grow up but I will schedule it real soon now.

The point is to find what calorie intake level works for you. Try sedentary and see how the weight loss goes. If you feel too starved you can always try more active. But if you start active and have to cut back you are more likely to feel deprived

Only an opinion -- I'd log it as low level cardio. Why low level? One reasonable rule is you can carry on a conversation while doing it.?

Don't try to stay one in front of the other -- people drive differently and it is much easier to drive your own way. Set meeting points about a half to three quarters hour down the road. Definitely take breaks. Get out, move, walk around, get your blood flowing. Keep hydrated -- yes, this will add bathroom breaks but it is…

Good point -- you don't have to run faster than the zombies -- just faster than the fat guy next to you.

I do not believe in God, but I do believe that God will send me to hell for saying so. Look for me on the third bar stool from the left -- I'll be drinking Miller Lite, because, after all, it is Hell

My doctor recommends 1,000 iu of D3 every day. Be sure to get medical advice before taking mega-doses

Your body doesn’t know about supermarkets or fast food. It is built around the idea that there are times when the hunting is poor or the crops don’t grow. When your calorie intake drops too low, your body shifts its food processing to keep you alive through hard times. It tries to burn as little energy as possible and it…

Let's start with the point that the executives at General motors know nothing about this diet so, if the basic claim about the diet is a lie, what about the rest? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/30/opinion/30iht-edcohen.html

My big change was I read the labels for calories and nutrition. The cell phone app lets me get data on things like meats that aren't labeled. As I do this more, I hope I'll learn enough so I don't have to read every time.

Unfortunately you have named the problem -- processed foods. Yes, it is nearly impossible to hit your sodium target if you use much in the way of processed food. This is especially true if your doctor wants you on reduced sodium. What to do? First, pay attention -- some processed foods are much worse than others and you…
