  • Oranges are amazing. Not a waste of calories in my book.
  • I met and married my husband when I had long hair. I cut it short and he prefers it like that... so I think his statement doesn't hold... Moral, different people like different things.
  • Talk to a hair dresser about how to do it. My mom has super curly hair and has always kept it in a pixie, but I'm not sure if she could wear it like JLaw's. JLaw her self doesn't have super straight hair though.
  • Not to be too personal, but where are you in your cycle? It's not uncommon for women to go up 5lbs in the week or so before and during. Don't rule that out as a possibility. I wouldn't jump to thyroid issues unless you're experiencing other symptoms of them besides not losing weight as quickly as you once did. If you're…
  • I agree with this. If you are emotional about the numbers on the scale, it's best to not weigh yourself. If you like to see how you can fluctuate depending on week, time of month, etc, it's a good way to be in tune with how your body holds on to water and weight. It's perfectly ok to have these kind of fluctuations and one…
  • If you want ice cream, coconut milk ice cream is super tasty.
  • All of this. I've been in that boat. My best friend and I are the same height and in high school wore the same size clothing (we shared). I was no less than 20lbs heavier than her. A solid mixture of muscle mass and the fact that I have a larger bone structure. It's a great reason to not worry about the scale as much.
  • The part about them not giving you IUDs before you have had kids is not entirely true anymore. It does vary case by case, but I know people who have not had kids and have non hormonal IUDs and it's becoming more common. If you're really only on it to stop acne, talk to a dermatologist about other options and your gyno…
  • You take that back. Lima beans are amazing. I was a very strange child who only liked lima beans and broccoli for a while... my opinion probably shouldn't be trusted.
  • This. I absolutely could not do the 5:2 thing. I would be miserable, starving, and unpleasant to be around. I really think making small changes at a time helps. I started everything by going for a 2 hour walk one day and thinking- I need to do this more, I feel good. So I cut out regular soda and replaced it with diet (I…
  • This is me. I don't intentionally eat low carb, but often find myself eating higher protein to keep fuller longer. I also find that a carb based meal often has more calories for the same amount- for example, I can eat a sandwich with 200 calories of bread, plus the fillings, or a piece of meat plus some veggies and get…
  • You said you like snow peas, but in rice or cooked? I cook them up with chicken a lot, but my favorite thing to eat them with is hummus. I use them instead of chips or something. Is that an option?
  • The best way I always found to reduce water weight on my period is to limit my salt intake and increase my water. It's hard, because I crave salt, but I find ways to ignore my cravings by diverting my focus and for some reason tea helps me too. If you find it discouraging, try not to weigh yourself that week either,…
  • In addition to all of this, when I had a back injury, I was told to work on my abdominal strength to keep it from happening again. I don't know if your back injury was like mine (over worked, pulled some muscles, etc), but increasing that core strength did help. Don't do anything that would aggravate it though, you know…
  • If you're not allowed to eat anything from a cow, don't forget that goat and sheep cheese and milk are available! Pork is super easy in the crock pot and you can do a variety of things with it, like pulled pork, roasts, tenderloins, etc. I'd google some recipes for that. I cook chicken as a curry frequently and stir fry it…
  • In to say- I have genetically broad shoulders. Like, exceptionally broad for a woman of my size, as broad as my husband's, who is a foot taller than me (thanks genetics!). It doesn't look weird on me, because the rest of my bones fit in that frame, but broad they are. For you to get to my level of broad shoulders by…
  • Moderation is key. I think it's easy to limit things, but hard to totally get rid of them. Eat what you can of red meat and fried food, but if you cut it back to a few times a week it should help. There are a bunch of foods you can substitute for red meat to get the vitamins you need. Check out vegetarian cookbooks for…
  • This. It's a wonderful feeling to actually feel muscles and see them move. I have always weighed significantly more than I look because of muscles. When comparing other people my height to my weight, I tend to be about 2 sizes smaller than them. I feel better when I do strength training than when I do just cardio (don't…
  • I always bloat out several pounds at the beginning of my period and drop it all back by the next week. I don't think 5 or 6 is unreasonable, especially if you've been eating salty food, because that can intensify the period bloat.
  • I have the same problem, but assume that it's linked to how I think they taste vomit-esque. I'm not sure what it is though, so in for anyone with explanations.
  • Ok, I've been slowly watching this thread's **** show and have this to say. I lose respect immediately for anyone who says "I went to x school. I bet you couldn't even get in there" as proof of intelligence. People can get into schools for a lot of reasons, it doesn't mean they learned anything. Meanwhile, someone can go…
  • What do you like and what will keep you full? You could do some fruit and peanut butter or some cheese, that's my go to snack. I used to pack oatmeal in college when I knew I was going to be on campus for a long time, that's an option if you have access to a microwave. A wrap or sandwich would fit too, or leftovers.…
  • Sure thing! I'm not the best example around here of how to do things because I'm more inconsistent than I should be. There are some amazing examples of people who've lost weight on MFP and have shown much better dedication than me. I'm 5'2" and I started back on MFP in late September. My start weight was 156.5 and I'm…
  • I've never heard the one inch for every 5-7 pounds thing before, although it describes my weight loss and inches. It probably has a lot to do with where you gain and store weight and your starting point. It really seems like a bad way of measuring success. Definitely take measurements everywhere and don't just focus on…
  • This is my motto in life.
  • I agree. I wash my hair more than once a week, but not everyday (it just depends on how it's doing that day). My husband has super curly hair that he washes now, every 3 days, but when it was long, once a week. It was beautiful. My best friend is the same way. I actually don't think the girl in the video's hair looks that…
  • MFP's numbers are often not accurate, because it's not there and can't measure the what you're doing. I'd go with the lowest number. I find that MFP's bike number are WAY higher than what my heart rate monitor says. You're better off inputting independently.
  • Don't have one and very likely never will get one, but, I'm kind of intrigued by scar body mod. I love the way it looks, but am guessing that it's way more painful than I could tolerate.
  • That's my question. If you can't eat broccoli or don't like it, but like cauliflower, then why not just eat cauliflower? It doesn't need to hide as something else.
