  • Alton Brown made an apple pie on Good Eats the other night. I can't wait to try it (with some healthy substitutions, of course)!
  • I love to watch Good Eats and anything with Bobby Flay, especially Boy Meets Grill. He's always cooking some sort of steak or prime rib or other delicious cut of meat. It's fun to try to adjust the recipes to a more healthy version.
  • From personal experience, I have not had any adverse reactions to diet drinks. I have been drinking them for 10+ years. I do go through periods where I drink 6-10 per day and periods where I do not drink any. I have had no gastrointestinal difficulties, no difficulty sleeping, etc. I'm not saying that diet drinks do not…
  • Actually, if you have 2 servings of 1/3 cup each, that would be 2/3 cup total. That would be .67 servings of 1 cup.
  • You are a much more understanding person that I am! I might have told her to take a hike! It's your birthday and it is your day to do whatever you want. If you would rather have a quiet dinner, that's what you should do. It seems pretty selfish for your friend to be angry because you wouldn't do what she wanted to do on…

  • When I ran track in high school, we would end every practice with "Handiwalks". They help to stretch out your muscles and prevent shin splints. We would walk up and down the basketball court: 1. On our heels 2. On our toes 3. With our toes pointing in 4. With our toes pointing out I warn you that you will look ridiculous…
  • I think it depends on the person. I can have a Diet Coke and a full meal 30 minutes before working out and I feel great. My sister, on the other hand, cannot eat for an hour prior to working out or she feels sick. Do some experimenting. With a little trial and error you will find which snacks help to power your workout.
  • Push Pops! They remind me of being a kid and they are very low in calories. Plus, it's so fund to push it up!
  • I have two suggestions: 1. What about subscribing to Netflix or Blockbuster.com? I use Blockbuster and I love it! The cheapest plan is $3.99 per month + tax. That will get you 2 DVDs per month. They have a huge selection of excercise DVDs. Also, if you are a first-time user, you can get a 2-week trial free. They also have…
  • I have a killer Italian Beef recipe! 2 pound Sirloin Tip/Rump Roast 1 small jar pepper rings 1 packets of Zesty Italian Dressing Mix (powder) 1/2 cup water 1/4 cup vinegar 1 teaspoon garlic 1 teaspoon basil 1 teaspoon thyme Makes 8 servings (4oz meat each) Cook all day on low or 3-4 hours on high. Remove from crockpot and…
  • Mayo does sound weird, and I've never tried it in cookies, but a friend of mine said that she always puts it in her cookies. It helps them stay soft and chewy.
  • I made these cupcakes last night for my family and they were a huge hit! They might be the best cupcakes I have ever had. I'm making more today so I can freeze them and thaw them out for snacks when I need something sweet.
  • I tried this recipe last week. Nachos are one of my favorite foods! It was very creamy but the taste was pretty bland. Next time I'm going to omit the fat free cheddar cheese and use 2% Velveeta instead. That will add about 10 calories to each serving. I'll let you know the results!

  • I am a big fan of chinese, and lo mein is one of my favorite dishes. I wanted to share a fantastic, easy, and fast recipe. Edamame Lo Mein (makes 4 generous servings) 8 ounces whole wheat spaghetti 2 cups frozen edamame (shelled soybeans) 4 scallions, thinly sliced 1/4 cup oyster sauce 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar 3…
  • I'm a big time-watcher too. I found that interval workouts are best for me. I get to watch the clock but the time seems to go by really quickly. Here's an example of a 30 minute workout I like to do: 1. 5 minute warm-up 2. 30 seconds at a faster speed 3. 30 seconds recovery (the speed should be faster than warm-up, slower…
