  • My track coach in high school always had us end our practices with exercises to help prevent shin splints. We would have to walk the length of the basketball court and back (1) on our tip toes, (2) on our heels, (3) with toes pointed in, and (4) with toes pointed out. It always helped me.
  • I'm with you! Cathe Friedrich is my favorite! Her cardio workouts are really fast-paced and it's a little difficult to keep up until you've been through it a couple times. I also love that she has lots of strength training. She's on FitTV everyday!
  • Have you tried doing pushups on an incline? They're easier than regular pushups, but harder than the modified. I use an aerobic step. I get into regular pushup position with my hands on the step. You may want to give it a try.
  • I used to have the same problem. Then I read an article that says you should breathe in and out when your left foot hits the ground. After I did that, the side stitches went away.
  • I can't believe that no one has mentioned Purple Rain! You have to love Prince in his purple outfits and high heels. Plus, you get to see Morris Day and the Time!
  • This is a fantastic recipe. It can be served as a side dish (serves 3-4 people) or as a main course with the addition of edamame (serves 1-2 people). The nutritional information below is for the entire recipe. 1 bag Broccoli Slaw 2 Scallions, thinly sliced 2 T Oyster Sauce 2 T Rice Vinegar 1.5 T Soy Sauce 1 t Sugar 1 t…
  • I hate Boca Burgers too! I did find that I love, love, love Morningstar Black Bean Burgers.
  • I don't watch Oprah, but I have read multiple articles that state you do not need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. This is because you get water from food, juice, coffee, pop, etc. Although drinks with caffeine do have a slight dehydrating effect, that doesn't come near canceling out the amount of water in them. However,…
  • I have dry skin as well. My dermatologist suggested using Cetaphil for my cleanser. It can be found at any drugstore. My moisturizer is Oil of Olay Oil Free with SPF. Even though I have dry skin, I am prone to breakouts so I can't use anything with oil.
  • We called those Mountain Climbs in school!
  • From the research I have done, the pills, shots, etc. are not what causes you to gain weight. The hormones in the pills make you hungry, so you eat more. That's how you gain the weight. That's also why you do not lose weight just from going off the pills.
  • I love salt so my favorite snack is one serving of Sun-dried Tomato & Basil Wheat Thins with one wedge of Laughing Cow Light Swiss Cheese. It is under 200 calories.
  • I looked at your profile and saw that you have lost 23 pounds so far. That is fantastic! You should be very proud. From what I can gather, you have lost all that weight even with dinner at your in-laws. Apparently, these dinners are not hurting your physical progress. It sounds like more of a psychological impediment. My…
  • I used to get these when I was training for a 7 mile run. I did some research and one of the suggestions was to inhale and exhale as you land on your left foot. It sounds weird, but it worked for me.
  • Your post made me curious so I made some spaghetti tonight. I weighed out 2 ounces of dry spaghetti. After cooking, I weighed it again and it was 5 ounces. It was Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Whole Wheat spaghetti. Hope this helps!
  • I made this for dinner tonight and it's very low calorie and very tasty! This recipe is vegetarian but you can also add sliced chicken or beef. Zucchini Spaghetti (serves 2) 4 oz Ronzoni Whole Wheat Spaghetti 4 cups Sliced Zucchini (approximately 16 oz) 6 Roma Tomatoes 1/2 cup + 1 Tablespoon Light Italian Dressing Cook the…
  • I have not tried them yet, but I have heard good things about the new Kashi frozen pizzas. They have 3 kinds: Roasted Garlic Chicken Pizza - 300 cal (1/3 of a pizza) Five Cheese Tomato Pizza - 290 cal (1/3 of a pizza) Mediterranean Pizza - 290 cal (1/3 of a pizza)
  • I had a homemade Peanut Butter Oatmeal Breakfast Cookie. I made a batch last night and am freezing the extras for my busy mornings.
  • Cathe Friedrich is one of my favorite exercise gurus! She has a ton of DVDs. My favorite are the Body Blast series. She has step aerobics, kickboxing, weightliftting, etc. The weightlifting videos are great if you have free weights at home. I used to watch her on FitTV and I recorded the ones I liked best.
  • I really like the Luna and Clif Bars. I'm not a big chocolate fan so it can be difficult to find snack bars that are not chocolatey! The Luna and Clif bars all have a great selection of non-chocolate flavors. Have you looked at drugstore.com? They sell a wide variety of snack/meal replacement bars at a good price. Also, if…
  • Jumping rope does burn a ton of calories, but it is also very difficult to keep it up for a long amount of time. You may want to start out slowly. Warm up with some walking and stretching. Then jump for 1-2 minutes (or as long as you can) then resume walking until you catch your breath. Repeat. There is also a lot of…
  • I have a Proform Crosswalk 405E. I got it from Sears the day after Thanksgiving. They were having a huge sale! It's a step up from their bottom model, and it was $450. I love it! My mom also has the same brand and she has been using hers daily for 2+ years. Keep an eye out for sales and other incentives. Many places will…
  • That's not gross! I used to cover my feet in Vaseline before a workout so my feet would stay soft and not get callouses. Maybe I should start doing that again.
  • Thanks for the advice everybody! I do wear cotton socks so maybe I should try some new socks first. It's the cheapest option and we don't have a running specialty store where I live. We have a Foot Locker and that's about it. I would probably have to drive 2+ hours to get to a good store! I will be going to Chicago in a…
  • I do have some pretty old shoes, but the blisters don't appear until I've been running for 30+ minutes. I'm not sure how much the shoe store would like me to use their shoes for an entire workout...especially if I'm not even sure about buying them!
  • I have had this problem on and off for about 3 years. If I jog for longer than 30 minutes, I get blisters on the bottoms of my feet under the arch. I think it is an odd place to get a blister! I'm not sure why. My feet are very average, not flat and not a high arch. Maybe it has something to do with my stride? Does anyone…
  • I eat a lot of oatmeal. I will usually get the huge cardboard tub of Quaker Quick Cooking Oatmeal. Currently, I have a box of McCann's Quick Cooking Oatmeal. Both brands are 150 calories for 1/2 cup, precooked.
  • I am a huge Taco Bell fan too! McDonalds Kids Meals (I can give the toys to my niece!): Hamburger Happy Meal with Diet Coke: 500 Cal 4-Piece McNugget Happy Meal w/Diet Coke: 420 Cal 6-Piece McNugget Mighty Kids Meal w/Diet Coke: 500 Cal Quiznos: Small Prime Rib & Peppercorn Sub w/Cheese, no Dressing: 400 Cal, 14g fat, 4g…
  • There is a brand of oatmeal called McCann's Irish Oatmeal. It is steel cut. Just make sure you buy the kind in the metal can. It is fantastic!
  • I think it just depends on your preference and what you are eating. For example, salad dressings are loaded with fat and calories. You may think that fat-free dressing is the way to go. However, many of the vitamins from the veggies in salad are fat-soluble, meaning that they need some sort of fat to absorb in your system.…
