Apparently, it's not so unusual: http://home.lifegoesstrong.com/will-sleeping-separate-bedrooms-save-or-destroy-your-marriage-weigh

Fitness Pal gave you 500 calories a week? IF not, why did you choose that number?

Retired from previous career as I.T. Director. Currently am a professional classical and jazz musician. Loving my "retirement career".

I can't really add to your count, but. I'm 55. Had my first one at 52. Will have another at 60 or so. Go do it if you haven't. It's easy, not painful, or even embarrassing. The purge the day before is the hardest part and it's no worse than some people's "cleanse" on this site. Why would you not do something that can save…

I don't have an answer because I'm in the same boat. I've overshot my goal by 8 pounds, have not decreased my exercise. I'm attempting to increase my calories. Yeah, I'm nervous about gaining back, but mostly I developed different habits, that were positive and helpful when losing weight but need to be changed. I got…

Not a Libertarian, but I agree with your assessment of the survey. Very leading.

Extraordinarily loaded questions with no room for gray. Seems to be skewed to try to make a libertarian point. Definitely think where they have put contemporary politicians on their chart is wildly skewed. Economic Left/Right: 0.12 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.41

Great!! All doctors are not, in fact, idiots.
-
In my experience, most people don't tell the whole truth about their doctors visits.

I love to run! But, because of a medical condition, I need to train in a "manned" facility (i.e. treadmill in gym). I can run races out and about because there will be lots of people around. So, my answer is that I either do HIIT, as mentioned above, or I run a 5K or 10K with a 1 to 1.5 incline to best mimic running…

Chad. Cool. Never been to Chad.

I am a classical and jazz musician by profession. I play woodwinds (clarinets, saxophones, flute, oboe). I also play piano, guitar, bass and some strings (violin). I attended conservatory for my undergraduate degree.

11:40 a.m. Just finished lunch. 742 calories so far. I usually have about 500 or 600 for dinner and another 300 or so for a "snack". I'm in "maintenance" now and really need to be eating more but the increase has been gradual.

Same for me, as for most. Sugar in fruit is fine. I don't eat "sweets" (cookies, cakes, etc) any longer. It was the first thing I changed when I first started. I can attribute my first 5 or so pounds loss to doing nothing more that cutting out sweets. Currently, I have an apple and a Banana pretty much each day as well as…

I'm a fan. Generally eat the Dannon Oikos brand with fruit on the bottom. The plain works really well for mixing in your favorite Whey powder or including as an ingredient of a Fritata/Quiche.

35 pounds in 6 months (185 to 150, which is 5 pounds below my goal). Targeted 1500 calorie a day for about 5 months of it, with weights and cardio. Maintenance now targeting about 2000 calories a day with weights and cardio.

Because we CAN be. Life has never been better for humans in the history of this planet as it is right now, in just about every way imaginable. By and large, we no longer have to be virtuous to merely survive. In some ways it was easier doing the right thing when life was more difficult. They don't. And No. There is no…

True that.

Right, and even the fittest, most athletic people have to change their exercise dramatically as they age, have the inevitable injury, etc.
-
This sounds like a reasonable conclusion.

Even if you don't go your doctor's route, I think the answer to this is yes.
-
Gee, that only took 7 posts in the thread. I would go back to the doc that recommended the diet and ask HER the questions. All you'll get here is an echo chamber of "your doctor's an idiot".

A gym friendly to older folks is a nice thing. Our gym is great - not a PF - but big and has everything (2 indoor, 2 outdoor pool, lots of free weights, machines, classes, courts, cardio farm, etc.). But folks like me - older, lifting heavy in a relative sense ( lift as heavy as I can with good form and continuous…

You know, my answer is running, but Burpees might be the perfect exercise. I need to get on board with that.

Those "Wishbone" spritzer dressings. What a great idea. A controlled way to add just enough dressing to your salad without over doing it. And you can reuse the spritzers to put the dressing of your choice in it (though Blue Cheese probably won't work......).

There is no vast conspiracy in the food industry to addict (literally) us to junk to guarantee profits. That is just fantasy. Everything has "chemicals". Everything you don't pick yourself is "processed". I could eat nothing but frozen dinners the rest of my life and remain healthy and maintain my weight. There is no…

I'm NOT an expert! But, I am in the minority in that I am dubious of the "starvation mode" thing. I would think that if things are "working" and you feel good, that you should not change anything until things don't work any longer rather than try to change something in anticipation of having gotten it wrong. As many say,…

But perhaps it WAS more important.

55. We need more grow-ups here. ;-)

Don't actually "party". But I do have glass of wine most days. It's always within my calories, did not impede my weight loss or my current maintenance.
