All kinds of advice floating around here & on other sites. Some valid, some not. If you have access, meet with a Registered Dietician who may well clear things up for you from a valid, scientific prospective. The "eatright.org" website is a site by & for RDs. Best wishes. I was eating 1200 cal/day or less for months…

June 1 sounds like an ideal day to join this challenge. I'll add 30 miles walking this month to the rest of my exercise routine stuff. Hope I copied my ticker correctly.

Yum, your post just caught my eye. Great tasting snack.

Congrats on your weight loss. Have you read any of the info on the Group "Eat More to Weigh Less" ? I've found it to be very helpful. And, coincidentally, it is exactly the info I was given when I met with a Registered Dietician. You're supposed to be eating more calories. You have to eat at least your BMR calories. Best…

What a GREAT post! Thank you for taking the time to post this. I am struggling with the concept of eating more to lose weight altho' I've plateaued already after only a 15 lb loss. Visited an RD & work out with a great trainer who both advise me to eat more. I'm 56, an RN & in the old days when I attended college, the…

Welcome and best wishes. What a great first step - I think MFP is great. Very easy to use. I need the accountability to keep me on track. Access to other food diaries gives you meal ideas, too. If you have access & time to visit a Registered Dietician, it's the perfect combination with MFP. Getting sound medical/scientific…

I love carbs but find that I am "short" of my carb goal every day now. No longer craving them with healthier eating & exercise? Not sure of the reason but I'm glad whatever the reason! For actual, definitive (medically sound) advice for to the American Dietetics *kitten*'c. website: htttp://eatright.org. I found the…

135- 140 lbs = my goal. I'm 56. Slow going for me even with exercise. My "usual" adult weight until age 40 was 130 lbs or less w/o dieting, etc. Highest was 203 earlier this year. Best wishes to all.

Wow, great post. Lots of sound advice, especially impressive in someone so young. Congrats on your wt loss/life style change. Amazing.

Joined MFP in March 2012 & just figured out there are Message Boards. Duh. I just turned 56 (how did that happen?!) & it's my first time actually seriously dieting/counting calories. I gained 60 lbs over the last 16 years & became sedentary for various reasons. I joined a gym, began working out with a trainer in March &…

Absolutely strength training is important. The "myfitnesspal" strength training database is the wink leak, in my opinion. It's been frustrating to me also, to do weight training, then find that MFP doesn't even have the exercise listed as you definitely burn a good number of calories with weights. There was a great…

Wow, great job! Great idea, too. It IS hard to see any visible changes in ourselves. Pictures are a great way to do it and thus, motivate ourselves.
