  • You all have inspired me. I've just begun using MFP again 6/1/18. Can't remember. How do I join this group?
  • Order JIF peanut butter online from Amazon?
  • Personally, I think at least a few sessions with a Personal Trainer are worth the $$ to learn what good form, and to formulate a plan going forward. Once you do that, you should feel free to ask your gym personnel/Personal trainers for assistance when you have a question at the gym. Do not rely on watching guys at the gym…
  • go to a website like http://scoobysworkshop.com and click on "fitness tools" on the right side of the page. It wil help explain the whole eating at BMR concept, why it's important, how to calculate, etc. I struggle to eat that many calories some days but know that it is important to do so especially if you've eaten at a…
  • Ed, happy to see a comment from you. Been wondering how you're doing. I just visited your blog. Your transformation and story are incredible. Thank you for sharing.
  • "Heavy" lifting means "heavy" for you. And, by the way, women don't bulk up like me do as we have minute amounts of testosterone vs men. The way heavy lifting was defined for me was being able to lift weights, with good form, until fatigue. As an example, if I press 30# (fill in any number here) for 3 sets of 12 reps, I…
  • Yay for you! I think they have outstanding customer service. My husband had an issue with his FB & they sent him a replacement also. Whenever we've had issues synching or questions about something, they've responded within 24-48 hrs.
  • You have to wade thru the voo-doo science here.
  • Another idea, maybe "old fashioned"? but our public library has a lot of videos. That's totally free to get you started for a couple of weeks, see if you even like it. As someone else said, post on FB, someone you know probably has the DVDs

  • I used to travel (4 lfights/wk) every week for work. I packed protein bars (Zone bars), fruit (usually apples cos they're easy) and the little tuna kits I think Starfish makes them. Also, string cheese holds up pretty well.
  • But you CAN firm up your arms by the exercises others have listed. I began wt lifting 6 mths ago & can definitely see a big difference (I'm 56 & still have 30 more pounds to lose). The "New Rules for Lifting for Life" or other NRFL books have specific work outs and include pictures.
  • I have found it is a VERY slow journey to weight loss when you're a "middle aged" female :-)) I've lost about 20# in 6 mths and that's with consistent exercise. I began wt lifting/strength training in March when I started MFP. It's only in the past month or so that I've really increased my cardio. I think (hope) that is…
  • LOVE the FitBit. Had it since July 2012. There have certainly been a few technical bumps-in-the-road along the way but we've found their customer service to be outstanding. My husband rec'd a free replacement after he emailed them about the problem he was having. The Forums on the FitBit website are helpful & I believe…
  • Welcome to MFP. I think you'll find a lot of support & some good information. There are a variety of "Groups" - just go to the "Groups" tab & search for whatever you might need, there will probably be a discussion group. If you haven't visited a Registered Dietician, they're a great resource to get you on track for healthy…
  • I order chicken or shrimp because I like them. I ask for "special" preparation (i.e. grilled, broiled, no butter, lemon only, whatever) if it's not on the menu. Add a salad (dressing on the side, etc, maybe steamed veges? Just depends upon what you like & what it's "worth" to you :-)) Like another person posted, I…
  • Hello all. Found this group this week & am excited to join a group of women over 50! I'm 56, joined MFP in late March, joined a gym, met with and RD & began working out with a personal trainer. Made up my mind to get back in shape & try to do it the "right" way. No crazy stuff. I am losing weight, slowly, and feel much…
  • Wow, good for you. Great results. Thanks for motivating the rest of us.
  • Wow, congrats! An amazing transformation!!!! Thanks for sharing and motivating the rest of us.
  • Do both lifting and cardio but on opposite days. I'm trying to lose weight and strengthen/tone muscles that I haven't seem in quite some time :-)) Sadly, I don't lose weight at all, if I don't do cardio. Today was the 1st day in several weeks that I was able to walk./run outside - after 10 days of 100+ temps - it was…
  • CONGRATS! It's so hard to be patient - we all want immediate results. I love your pictures and the timeline - intellectually I know it will take me that long (at least) and good to see how much different everyone looks in their "after" pics. You're a darling girl. I'm sure your family is so proud of you. Great role model…
  • Great story and I love your side-by-side pictures, too. Very nice that you & your boyfriend support each other. LOVE that muscle definition! It's good that you're taking control of your nutrition and exercise while you're so young. Thanks for posting! These success stories are the most motivating part of MFP.
  • Hi, yep, I'm 56. Where did this weight come from? Ugh... And, Sue from Mizzou. GO Tigers! My daughter and my money went there. We all had a great time ;-)) There are a couple of GROUPS on MFP that folks over 40 or 50 have started. One that I like to participate in is: 40/450+ but younger next year. Lots of support and an…
  • Hmm, honestly, maybe not totally flat. Vertical incisions (yep, in the "old days", I'm your age too) cut thru many different muscles. Three pregnancies obviously also caused lots of skin/tissue stretching. Fortunately they don't do that type incision for C-sections any more. Have you consulted a plastic surgeon? Not saying…
  • Doctors are pretty clueless when it comes to nutrition. You should really ask a dietician. They really aren't nutrition specialists. That's where RDs come in. If it makes you feel better, I saw an Endocrinologist (who treats diabetes, etc) and he fumbled around discussing how many calories = a pound. He said 4500 instead…
  • Thanks for the tip. Chick Fil A is geographical close & the grandkids like it. Nice to have another option besides salads.
  • Have you asked your OB-GYN? Retired nurse here, not a mom of twins. I think it may require a tummy tuck. C-section incisions are thru that large abd. muscle (well, mulitple muscles etc) and you could also have some extra skin from the stretching of your abd to accomodate the babies. Several of my young friends who've had…
  • I recently purchased "Six Star Pro Nutrition" Professional Strength Muscle Building Milk Shake, Elite Series (made by Muscletech). It's from WalMart (big red & black container). I always mix my shakes with 4-6 oz skim milk. The serving size is 2 scoops which = 280 cal (Carb 16g, Fat 9g, Protein 33g). I bought the Triple…
  • There is an Exercise Tab at the top of the page (in a computer view). Once you click that tab, there are 2 choices: Cardiovascular or Strength Training. MFP doesn't assign a calorie "burn" to any stregth exercises. However, you can track them in there for your own personal tracking. Then, you can go to the Cardiovascular…
  • Great question, I'm anxious to hear what everyone says also. I am new to weight lifting but really enjoy the challenge. Cardio is miserably boring. I'd like to try yoga or pilates. Just figured out we have a Yoga thing on the Wii Fit so maybe I can learn some basics first.
