  • You are looking great, keep it up!
  • So right off the bat, I'm not a doctor. From what I understand unless you have kidney problems then too much protein should not be a problem. Not sure how much you weigh, but I am currently at around 355 pounds and I take in between 150 and 200 grams of protein per day. Works great for me.
  • Another vote for fear of loose skin and needing plastic surgery. But as a couple posters pointed out, the positives far outweigh the negatives. /needs some man spanx
  • Just enter "Reading and Posting In Forums" to the database as an exercise with a huuuuuge calorie burn. We'll all be skinny in no time!
  • Haha so glad this is spreading from the other thread  NSV is actually a Non-Scale Victory... for when you know you're losing weight and getting healthier and you realize it from anything except looking at the scale. Congrats to the OP for the "skinny pants" now being "regular pants"
  • Hahaha yes!
  • Thanks everyone! Yes, my day went from bad and sad to rad and glad
  • I usually eat four bananas per day, so if I felt guilty about it I might end up losing my mind!
  • I have to admit I haven't read the entire thread, but this sounds a bit delusional... I don't care if you are vegan, paleo or whole foods only, eating 1600 calories a day should not be a problem.
  • Thanks! The only dancing I do in public is at my SH'BAM classes haha. Or at weddings with open bars :drinker: And yes, not IF but WHEN
  • I borrowed a body media device from a friend and used it for about a month or so. It was very easy to use and came with a watch that displayed the calories burned. The only thing I didn't like is that they charge you a monthly fee to access their website and see the simple charts of your burns and workouts. So that's why I…
  • I just bought the Polar FT7 and have been using it today for the first time. Pretty easy to figure out and comfortable to wear. I specifically got the FT7 because it was the cheapest Polar model that you can connect to their little FlowLink gadget and get your data put directly into the Polar training website. So far, so…
  • Welcome! Congratulations for making the first steps to becoming healthier. You definitely CAN do it, and the resources and support here can really help you along the way. You've seen how it helped your friend... so stay focused and reap the same rewards :) P.S. I am finally able to shop at a few stores that don't have "Big…
  • Randomly saw this thread and the title caught my eye... I started my lifestyle change because I was in a bariatric surgery program and I had to lose over 100 pounds to lower my BMI enough just to qualify for procedure (I was looking at lap banding). So I made some changes and when I saw how "easy" (haha  ) it was…
  • Great post... welcome to the site. I picked out the quote above because I certainly know the feeling. You're going to have the days where it all feels like too much. You have the big number in your head and when you see how large it seems you want to give up. JUST HANG IN THERE! Five days turns into two weeks and two weeks…
  • 510 here Maria, and she's right - this is THE place to be :) Congrats on the first step!
  • I also just did the race outside Boston and we had an amazing time! The race was tough, but mostly because of the insane mud and the few zombies who loved to chase you for a hundred feet or so before stopping haha. Our goal is to eventually do the Tough Mudder and this felt like a great introduction to the whole adventure…
  • I LOVE Body Combat! And congrats on your NSV! I have had similar ones myself... it feels so amazing when you realize you are doing something that you could not do before. My first class was about the same, just struggling to finish. Now I can go for the full time and I focus on my technique and incorporating the advanced…
  • I'm sure some machines are more accurate than others but I wouldn't really count on the accuracy of anything other than a heart rate monitor.
  • First off congrats on your loss. There can be many reasons for hair loss, but assuming your overall health is good I would lean towards lack of protein and nutrients being the cause. I don't know specifics about your situation, but I do know that when I used to attend bariatric surgery support meetings one of the biggest…
  • So does Cockney rhyming slang infuriate you? People use the same language in hundreds of different ways. Depends on where you're from, and where you've been. Sure it's technically "incorrect", and I can't say I understand the appeal or "get it" either... but why bother getting annoyed if the same thing has been happening…
  • Agreed. Most people were able to read and understand the OP, myself included. Apparently some other people would rather look down on a person for grammar and spelling errors than help someone who clearly needs assistance. Thanks for telling those folks to take it somewhere else. I don't like grammar and spelling errors…
  • @rmartin72: JINX!
  • Invest in a heart rate monitor that tracks the calories you burn and you'll know for sure
  • Yep, I definitely agree with this.
  • Good suggestion. I use shakes with protein powder and they are a great and easy way to put some extra healthy calories into your diet. Mine are about 360 calories each and about 1.5 cups in volume so they're easy to drink.
  • Total Daily Energy Expenditure. TDEE = BMR + all the calories you burn from moving and exercising each day. http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.html
  • Yeah, you are correct. I was definitely trying to oversimplify a bit. I also didn't calculate in the extra 20% for a sedentary lifestyle as pointed out above by another poster. Thanks for chiming in guys :)
  • You're welcome! And this is unrelated, but I also love putting in the names of stand-up comedians as stations... you can listen to stand up routines all day long! Not good for working out, but I love them on long drives :)
  • Also, considering your height and current weight, I would definitely recommend staying ABOVE 1200 cals everyday.
