  • Thanks, y'all. Good advice and I'm glad to hear the feedback. I did my first workout last night and, after tweaking a bit, I don't hate it as much as I thought I would. I didn't do static lunges with my foot elevated...I just did static lunges. It was a pretty brutal workout and I have to say, my legs feel it. I do miss…
  • I think this completely depends on how you are feeling. I've had streaks of over 100 days where I've run (minimum 3 miles) every single day and felt great. I've had other times where 3 days of working out and I'm craving a break. I do think that one FULL day of rest is great. It has dramatically increased my energy and my…
  • MFP almost ALWAYS overestimates. That is probably a high for the avg person.
  • Same. Or over-training. It might be a sign you need a rest day or to check your nutrition. If you feel that way consistently, I'd consider upping cals/modifying meal times.
  • I don't stretch prior to working out. I just have a nice gentle warm up (brisk walk, unweighted bar lift, a slow yoga series). Stretching after however, is crucial. When I'm sore/achy I love epsom salt baths and foam rollers. You can get a foam roller at the Wal-Marts for like, $10. YouTube how to use it.
  • You said it yourself. Man up. And get a plan. Pick a lifting plan that fits your goals Ignore the machines. Look on bodybuilding.com for videos on how to do the lifts you will be doing. Get in, put your head down, work out, get out. That's all there is to it.
  • Harden the F up and do it. Harsh, but true. No one can make you put down your fork. No one can make you swap that candy bar for an apple. You have to do it. Take healthy habits and add them in each week. Try something like this: One week, focus on adding 3 servings of veggies a day. Next week, make it 5. Week after, cut…
  • I did body pump for a while and then quit out of irritation (I can't dance to a beat, how on earth can I bench press something heavy to a beat???). I'm in Stage 2 of NROLFW and I've lost inches and can pick up some really really heavy ****....it's awesome. Throw in a little cardio (HIIT) and you'll be great.
  • This isn't accurate. You don't stop burning fat. The ratio of fat:other energy burned changes but you also burn more overall. Example: Run a mile in 15 mins in that "fat-burning zone" and let's say you burn 100 calories, 75 from fat. Run a mile doing high-intensity intervals and you burn 200 calories, 100 from fat. Yeah,…
  • I like skinnytaste as well (although she uses a little too much canned stuff for my taste). Try mynewroots.com also. She is a raw chef and her raw brownie recipe was mind-blowingly delicious. http://mynewroots.blogspot.com/2011/04/raw-brownie.html
  • I love my Garmin FR110. It's wonderful. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/p/product-reviews.html Go here. This guy has reviewed all kinds of GPS watches. They are in-depth and awesome.
  • I think this is mostly anecdotal. My fat is almost all stored in the lower abs/hips. The only way to effectivey reduce fat on any part of your body is to focus on overall fat loss.
  • I'd keep it sedentary.
  • The better question is "what shoes for running". There are a ton of good trail runner options. Brooks cascadias have always served me well, but you'll need some trial and error. A lot of trail shoes have gore-tex lining and are in darker colors so the mud doesnt show.
  • try this: http://thehealthyfoodie.com/2011/10/25/close-to-perfection-whole-wheat-pizza-dough/ there are a lot of great options for pizza toppings on there as well. Boyfriend and I do pizza night all the time. It's an awesome way to use up any leftover meat and produce from the fridge and pretty fun as well. Use fresh…
  • Could be the camber. I'm more sore after a track workout but that's because it's, well, a track workout....speed play always leaves me sore.
  • hulu.com has plenty of free yoga workout videos. Taking a class is always great for beginner yogis.
  • Try searching under groups and you'll find plenty of people doing this.
  • What kind of weights do you have?
  • This. You'll lose weight with only running. But you'd improve your fitness more if you augmented it with 2-3 days of weight training.
  • My dog and I do this. I throw it and she chases and I try to fit in as many sprints/jacks/burpees as possible until she gets back. Of course, if she happens to see a squirrel, I could be doing burpees for a reallllly long time.
  • back pain from running is definitely something you should look into rectifying. It's possible your core is weak and as your form deteriorates, you're putting strain on your back. Make sure you have proper footwear and that you are including some type of core work (along with proper warm-up/cool-down/stretching).
  • eat them back! You've got to fuel your workout and maximize the benefit from it.
  • I would mix up your workout routine. You've dropped 50#. That's awesome and your body can totally handle more work than 30 min on the elliptical. Maybe try some running? Definitely try some strength training. That will really help you break a plateau (plus it's fun). Don't rely on machines. Get yourself a good program…

  • Monday- New Rules of Lifting for Women Tuesday- HIIT and yoga (yoga is a daily thing for me, but two days are longer/more intense yoga sessions). Wednesday- New Rules of Lifting for Women Thursday- Tempo Run Friday- New Rules of Lifting/Rest (this alternates each week) Saturday- Long Run/Hike Sunday- Hot Yoga/Rest…
  • Do you have a reference for this? This seems like a pretty impressive claim.
  • Forget the machines and get New Rules (or something similar). You'll get a bigger impact from the compound lifts reccomended in the book.
  • Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe (sp?). I am doing NROL4W and bought this book on a high recommendation from my brother. I'm so glad I did. It is much more technical and in depth than New Rules. It supplements it well and I plan to follow the plan in there once I'm done with New Rules. It will benefit you now and plus,…
  • What kind of "toning trainers" are you running in?
  • Agreed. Time to get off the forum and get to a doc. Advice of strangers can't help in this one!
