  • http://peasandthankyou.com/2011/04/05/tofu-love/ Tofu Tacos!!! Boyfriend and I eat this about once a week....it's quick and delicious!
  • Termogenics are worthless...skip it. In fact, I would skip all of the freebies they gave you and just stick with your plan.

  • Don't use the machines. I started with the barbells not knowing anything about weight training. New Rules of Lifting for Women (search the forums, plenty of info) has been a great intro to the weight room and I'm loving the results you get from compound lifts and heavy weights. Plus...picking up heavy s*** is fun.
  • One of the easiest ways to save is to buy in season. If you can buy from a local farmer's market, even better. Foods that are currently plentiful will be the best priced. Pick things that can be used multiple ways. Kale is cheap and makes a delicious pesto or filling for a rice/noodle bowl. Try buying your grains in bulk.…
  • I do this often since it is just the boyfriend and I. We tend to have a lot of leftover fresh veggies. Here is a quick guide on how to do it for almost every veggie: http://nchfp.uga.edu/how/freeze.html The website also recmomends using a blanching basket in some parts (who the F*** owns a blanching basket??) I use a…
  • I suggest you skip the fad diet. It is unsustainable and unhealthy. Simply cut out processed foods. Track your intake, add fresh fruits and veggies to every meal. Shortcuts and quick fixes don't change science.
  • I've done yoga pretty much daily for about 2 years and before that practiced at least weekly for 5 years. I love it. It keeps me calm and I think the stretching/balance/compression feels great. I'm a big fan of Tara Stiles' yoga podcast (free, just do an itunes search) and hulu.com has some wonderful beginner yoga. I do…

  • I'm of the opinion that MFP consistently and drastically overestimates calorie burn. I never count activities as "exercise" unless they are actually exercise. I consider everything else...well....life..... Note, I'm sure you burn plenty of calories stripping your floor varnish or re-grouting your tub...I just personally…
  • Deadlifts! Squats and lunges are fantastic as well. Do them weighted and do the full range of motion. As far as arms go, I just do shoulder presses, lat pulls, and low rows. The arm flab slowly diminishes and I'm starting to see evidence of muscle...who knew?
  • Any time I increase my running base I get so much more hungry. (Hence why marathon training isn't the ultimate weight loss plan that so many people seem to think it is.....) To make sure I stay within a reasonable amount of calories I usually up my protein a little and make sure I have lots of snack options immediately…
  • +1000000 All these fad diets are worthless and unsustainable.
  • You got a lot of good ideas. here's a couple more: I make up a big thing of tuna and white bean salad (add radishes, arugula, celery, hardboiled egg, whatever you like and mix w a good spoon of greek yogurt) and have that ready to grab and go. I par cook sweet potatoes and then have shredded chicken and black beans over…
  • Well that's just not true. I'm 5'4" and that's my goal weight. It's well within the "normal" range.
  • You don't have to eat only vegetarian, organic and raw to eat clean.
  • $25 isn't bad at all. I would go to the gyms first though and see if you like them and if they are clean, well-equipped, convienent, etc. Don't use the stupid machines. Use the barbells and dumbells (try new rules of lifting for women or starting strength. Another one people use is Stronglifts 5x5.) As far as the…
  • Seeing your doc is a great idea. Another great idea is to just continue walking and move much much slower through C25K. Maybe your body needs a little bit longer to adjust to the increased work. Try repeating weeks (or days) to slowly allow yourself to build up. Pain is bad. good for you for recognizing it and stopping…
  • You reduce your body fat. All the crunches in the world won't make any difference visually unless you cut fat.
  • Take those three days that you work your upper body and turn them into full body workouts. Compound lifts will give you more bang for your time in the gym. Get off the machines and into free weights and you'll get the results. As far as weights and cardio on the same days, I would just save my hard run days for days when…
  • It makes you look ridiculous. No. Saran wrap/garbage bags/those overpriced body wraps do absolutely nothing to the fat/muscle in your body. Any weight you lose will be gained as soon as you re-hydrate. If quick-fixes sound too good to be true, they are.
  • I would just find a basic gym (one that has free weights) and join. Mine cost me $20/mo. Then find a weight training program that suits your fitness and goals and go at it. The cost was the main detractor for Crossfit for me as well. We have the same price here with an additional $150 for an "on ramp" class. I couldn't…
  • I think I'd also start looking into other gyms. It seems this one has a high turn over of unreliable trainers and, to further worsen things, is cagey and not up front with clients. you should be given notice if your trainer is leaving the gym. All these broken appts with no notice would have me fed up in…
  • Maybe direct? http://www.jadeyoga.com/store/home.php
  • I have a Jade brand yoga mat that I use for pretty much everything (not just yoga). It gives a lot of cushion on my hardwoods. I love it and it is crazy durable!
  • You would get more benefit from getting off the machines and getting into some free weights. These will work more parts of your body all at once and improve little things. Also, don't neglect your core and your legs. part of the goal of exercise is to improve your body's function.
  • Quit giving up. That's really all there is to it. If you didn't like running, try biking/swimming/skating/hiking/rowing or whatever. Then don't quit. After a while, it will become a habit. But it never stops taking commitment.
  • Yoga is my fave rest day activity. A week of heavy lifting and work leaves me kind og tight and achy. Yoga fixes it! I like P90X yoga (although that's still tough) or I string together a bunch of good short ones from Tara Stiles podcast "Yoga and Other Useful Things".
  • Probably. Sun Salutations are great for opening up your joints and getting a little heat into your body. It is not, however, a calorie scorcher.
  • Evidence? Other than anecdotal please...
  • Losing fat overall. Do some searches on the forums. This question has been asked and answered a lot. You'll get more info than you could ever want.
  • Just because you can buy it, doesn't make it safe. The fitness industry is chock full of inadvisable equipment. Where do you think that water you're "shedding" comes from?
