When I first went to the gym I did the elliptical and treadmill. The way it was set up was that while on the cardio equipment I could see the lifting equipment. So for a while I just did cardio and watched the lifters and took mental notes. That helped me when I finally became brave enough to go lift for the first time. I…

I should preface this by saying I am literally sipping a jack and ginger right now. I have never completely eliminated alcohol, but have made many different choices when it comes to social events where alcohol was served. I frequently skipped out on happy hours or social functions at bars with friends and instead would…

if you told your personal trainer your goals and that's what he set you up with, then give it a try as its gotta be better than the 90 percent of people here who only think they know what they are talking about. As for cheat meals and cheat days, I was never comfortable with an entire cheat day, but enjoyed a cheat meal…

if you are throwing up bc you are hungover, you probably have other things to worry about other than logging a 300 calorie or so breakfast.

what is CBT?

jimmy dean's breakfast sandwich... egg white, turkey sausage and cheese on an english muffin. 65 seconds in the microwave and can eat it on way to work. Non work days I add some cut up strawberries and banana. Seems to be working so far and definitely better than the two donuts I was grabbing at Dunkin Donuts.

Have had several knee surgeries, although not ACL. You have some physical therapy ahead of you, and while working on your knee, ask if you can work in some upper body stuff. Since physical activity will be limited, diet becomes even more important. As does water intake. Be in the best shape you can prior to the surgery. A…

Best: one burger doesn't make you fat, just like one salad doesn't make you skinny Worst: anything unsolicited from someone at the gym

I miss my spin class. What I loved about it was that since I have my own knee issues, it was easy to go at my own pace and resistance. Everyone's class is truly unique b/c of this. And no one cares or knows what you are doing or how well you are keeping up. If you are unsure, try sitting in the back if bikes are set up…

1. Be in right frame of mind 2. it's a marathon, not a sprint 3. You don't get skinny by eating one salad, just like you didn't get fat eating one hamburger 4. drink a ton of water 5. try new physical things 6. prepare your food 7. surround yourself with people with similar goals, not just here but in real life 8. realize…

i hold those handles too. i find when i hold the moving handles i grab so tightly to push and pull that my fingers and hands are sore the next day. do your own thing and who cares what everyone else does...

my face. i can look in the mirror and tell if i am up a few pounds or down a few pounds. and my belly. i don't weigh myself anymore, or take measurements, so it is all about what i see in the mirror and how my clothes fit. congrats to everyone on their weight loss!

can't wait for the snow to melt, the temperatures to rise and the streets to be clear so i can walk my dog. i swear she smiles when i get the leash.

so i'm not sore after i lift

i'm at day 957 or something and haven't logged my food for a while. or measured or weighed my food or myself in a looooong time. and that works for me. so find what works for you and stick with it and keep in mind what works for everyone else could be different! good luck to all!

i walked in, alone, to a hot yoga class full of beautiful women wearing not much clothing with tremendous bodies. i was one of the only guys, clearly the heaviest, and the only newbie there. i got there early, introduced myself to the instructor and asked how i should handle being new. she gave me a few tips; set up in the…

i agree with what sam i am says about quads and hamstrings. it really depends on what your fitness level is. squats are the real deal and to start with them might be a mistake. if you are rehabbing a knee, or haven't done much leg muscle work, i'd start with leg lifts. there are several variations and when they become too…

did it for about a year. too expensive for me, but miss it dearly. i always had two water bottles. one filled about 3/4 of the way and frozen solid, then filled with cold water. one frozen about a quarter of the way, then filled with cold water. i would drink the quarter ice one first, then when that was gone, i would…

the biggest thing that irritates me at the gym is when people talk to me. please, leave me alone. i have to make small talk all day, the hour in the gym is my escape.

switched from clif bars to kind bars. seem much better and a lot of list that have "top foods" for health, list kind bars as one of the best. as for trail mix, it is the death of me. once i start, i can't stop.

no experience with it, but it looks really cool. good luck.
