  • I'm a married lady in her mid-thirties that does not have kids. Husband got a vasectomy 3 years ago when we made the choice not to have them. It was the best decision for us.
  • Like what others have said, I would go to a run store to be fitted on the type of running shoe that you need. Most runners go a bigger in shoe to prevent black toe nails and provide extra room for swelling. My shoe size is an 8 regular(maybe wide in some shoes). In running shoes, I usually go to an 8 1/2 wide because a lot…
  • I agree with the other poster to not jump right into Vibram shoes. I tried them and I personally don't like them at all. But I have heard from other runners that once you go to five fingers, it is harder to adjust back to a regular running shoe because your running strike changes. Try going to a specialty running store.…
  • Since you just started jogging, your body might be adjusting. I would make sure to log my food intake down. I noticed from myself and being with other runners that there are two main types. Either one eats way too much because they get hungrier or the running curbs their appetite. I fall into that running curbs my appetite…
  • Welcome to the world of running! I love running! I genetically carry a good amount of fat in my lower legs and calf area. Running was the ONLY thing that slimed down my legs and formed some needed muscle. My results are from running around 3 to 4 miles at a time a couple of times per week.
  • I love the treadmill, but I would buy a racing stationary bike. I would buy a bike to change up my routine. The racing bike is compact, solid, and quiet. I could do my own spin workout!
  • Cardio is 3 times a week and that consists of at least 2 miles of running or more. Just started strength training twice a week with one day being upper and the other day being lower body. I go three of the days at lunchtime, because there is nobody in the gym at that time. Any other days are either on Saturday or Sunday in…
  • I really like these for running: Eminem - Lose Yourself Journey - Don't Stop Believin' Maroon 5 - Payphone Taio Cruz - Dynamite and Break Your Heart Rihanna - We Found Love
  • I second the Polar F4. The strap was soft and I did not notice it when I was running or strength training.
  • I like gym memberships, because I run and living in FL it is too hot and sometimes slighty dangerous(car drivers) to run outside. I like the option of having the different machines for strength training. The only downfall that I am having with gyms is the men. Sorry guys, but a lot of gym men are complete machine and free…
  • Running is my cardio of choice and I just recently took up strength training also. For me, I prefer not to train lower body on the days that I run. I usually wait one to two days after a lower body workout. I want my legs to be fresh for runs and lower body strength training. On days that I do run, I will do upper body on…
  • Shoes, shoes, and shoes again. I went to a run store to be fitted with the correct shoes. Proper shoes prevent injury. You can also Google Hal Higdon's website. It has tons of training/running programs that you can follow starting with novice. Tons of information that will help you out.

  • I dropped the most weight when I took up running. I noticed that I lot of runners that do a fair amount of distance each week tend to get hungrier. I'm the complete opposite and do not have an increased appetite after running. Everyone is different, but I agree with other posters that nutrition is key. Some people assume…
  • I run on the treadmill. It's too hot to run outside right now. Sidewalk running is the hardest on the knees and joints, so that is the main reason I run inside. There is no way I'm going to run on the "walk/run" paths on the asphalt/road with the crazy drivers in my town.
  • I've been using stevia for over 6 years before it became popular. I can't live without it. I used to be a Splenda girl. Splenda taste like garbage to me now. It's shocking how I can taste the chemicals in it. I've been using the NuNaturals brand after tasting a lot of different brands and it is the best hands down.

  • LMAO! **AS I MUNCH ON MY BOWL OF WHITE RICE** :drinker:
  • In my area, they started the grilled option on the kid's menu. But they said you can just ask and they will make it in the regular sizes. (** As I eat my spicy chicken sandwich** )
  • Usually I eat back about half of my workout calories.
  • Today I started something new with my eating plan. I upped my protein, but not going too overboard. I ate 4 meals today with protein at every meal and right now I am satisfied. I even did cardio for 40 mins and strength training for 20 minutes. I don't know if the added protein will help, but today has gone well.
  • ^^ So agree with this post. Coming from an Asian background, I do not believe that a lower carb diet is always the way to go. Everyone is different and low carb works for many individuals, but my mother, brother, and sister were born in Asia and they have been slim my entire life and they eat loads of "bad" carbs(aka white…
  • IMO, I think that some people that only do tons of cardio use that as an excuse to overeat. I know other runners that get extremely hungry when they train long distances. I'm lucky and have the opposite effect when I run. This example is one of the many reasons there are overweight runners or cardio buffs. I believe it…
  • I've currently lost 60 pounds since 2009 with still about another 25-30 to go and I experienced this all of the time. The people that tried to negatively effect me the most was my co-workers. Misery loves company IMO. A lot of people will always feel threatened when someone else is doing something that makes them question…
  • I'm not sold on it yet as a pasta replacement. I had it last night and it came out watery or maybe overcooked. This happened to me twice, so next time I'm going to cook it with less time and see how it turns out.
  • I couldn't live without eggs. I eat at least 4-6 eggs per week. I had blood work done a little bit back and the doctor told me my cholesterol level was excellent. Now everyone's body is different and others have to watch their egg intake. But I eat a well-balanced diet that does not include a lot of red meat with…

  • I love green tea! I add stevia to mine like I do to any unsweetned tea. For me, the bitterness does not bother me. They say the more bitter the tea the better quality it is due to the antioxidant level. I like a lot of different brands, but you might like Tazo's mint green tea. The mint helps mask the bitterness a little.
  • IMO, I don't have any issues with natural soy. I have an Asian background and my mom(73 yo going on 40  ) and I have been eating soy for a long time with no effects. I consume about a cup of organic soy milk about 4-5 times a week and consume tofu on a monthly basis. I personally do not like Boca or MorningStar…
  • I have had bowel issues ever since I could remember. I always take magnesium and vitamin C everyday to help keep me regular. Extra fiber from Metamucil or other fiber supplements have never helped me. They actually make the situation worse. The vitamin C and magnesium works for me in conjuction with bananas, avocado,…
  • My Costco sells the small individual Sabra hummus. I love these for quick snacks on the go combined with veggies or a bagel thin. I also like Motts applesauce with no added sugar, small individual almond butters or peanut butters with a banana, and Kind bars(coconut almond or nut and fruit).
