Rodney makes a good point. Friends are great motivators and sources of good ideas and feedback. Ask a few and before you know it you'll have lots. People are great about being helpful. And it's long-haul. Stay with it.

There may not be one "right" answer. Everybody is a little different and what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. I would say try different things. If eliptical isn't getting it done, try walking, running, biking, etc. Eat differently. The important thing is keep at it, be honest with yourself about…

I do if I'm hungry, but I don't make a point of trying to.

Walking is good exercise.
-
Will be starting it soon myself. Going to try it barefoot on a treadmill.
-
I would do that. That which doesn't make me puke, I can eat! Or drink.

It's a great site. Don't be shy to ask people to friend-up, I like to have a handful who are kind of similar to me to benchmark myself against and get feedback from. The "Community" section is a great place to look for advice on everything, recipes, running shoes, etc. etc. It's a good site all around.

Great advice. Sustained running has always been very difficult for me (even though I play soccer) and I have recently discovered biking and love it.

I've found a core group of friends who are motivated and fun. New members should feel free to search for and reach out and ask others to be their friends. Being a middle aged guy I was looking for some other middle aged guys to benchmark myself against, so I posted a message and the response was great. And I'm always glad…

Don't let Wednesday get you down. Look forward, good luck, keep up the good work. Make habits out of the things which will help you.

I seem to have solved it by un-installing the upgrades on Google Maps.

My GPS tells me I'm in Spain, near Zaragosa. Yesterday I was in Gazost, France. Thanks for the head's up!
-
Me too. Plan a long walk or something where you're out of the house and moving. Someplace where there's not food!

How about Pepsi taking the Russia market and Coke taking China? Two "duh's" for Pepsi...

You're thin and beautiful, you don't need to lose any weight. Good job!

Lots of people report hitting a plateau, and lots more report that eating too little can put your body into energy conservation mode where you won't burn as many calories. I think the trick is to keep at your exercise and try to eat near to your calorie goals. Stick to it and good luck! (and I went up one pound today so…

Oh, and a stretch which can help is to pull your toes up towards you with a towel while sitting, or lying in bed.

I'm a sufferer too. I found running and training shoes with a lot of cushion (as opposed to firmness) were helpful in both making it feel better and keeping it away, as well as heel lifts in my work shoes. If you're currently in a lot of pain biking and swimming can be good alternatives until it feels better. Unfortunately…

I have always hated stretching. So I don't do it much. Maybe a little light stuff coupled with warmups, if at all.

Nice post. I've learned to use the community MFP offers, to benchmark against others, to learn from their experiences, to share successes. It's motivating to know others are "watching" me.

If heavy duty cleaning helps you break a sweat, sure, count it as exercise. I count mowing the lawn. I don't count doing the dishes. But in your diet and exercise regimen remember to be truthful with yourself - you're only going to get out of this what you put into it. I've seen "cleaning' on MFP put up some pretty big…

I was just reading another thread where someone was concerned about plateauing (is that a word?) early. Lose some pounds early, then stop. I've even gained a couple back myself but after reading up am not discouraged, it will come off. Hang in there.
-
I hit a plateau too early on. Thanks for the helpful comments, folks!

You bring up a great point. Calorie goals are already set to help you lose weight. To go below them is fine I suppose, but just being close to target is really what we should strive for.
-
I hate running too. I do it on the treadmill to keep me up to speed and on target, but outside I usually just walk, or ride my bike.

I hear once a week is the standard for figuring out long-term progress. I weigh myself once a day just because it's on my mind and it's fun, but I don't get too worried about day to day results or if I gain a couple of pounds. Water, etc. can make small differences and it's really the long term goal we're focussed on. Good…

Lol! Go to sleep! I get them too...

Thanks folks. I am finding it a useful way to control my appetite and wanted some reassurance it was an OK thing to be doing. I appreciate the feedback.
