I got a Polar FT70 on Father's Day last year. Use it 3-4 times a week and still ticking. It's great.

43 and loving it.

I've been married to the most wonderful woman for 20 years. I never take my ring off. I'm not throwing rocks at anyone else if you choose to do so, but my take is that this is just a small way to affirm how important my relationship is. If it pinches, who cares, though I have not really had that experience. I wear a simple…

One of the biggest things I try to notice is my sodium intake. If I eat out, even if I stay under my calories, that restaurant food is so loaded with salt that my weight won't be back to normal for over 24 hours. Drink lots of water and watch the salt. If you keep your caloric intake at the proper level you will see it. If…

OK...loving this thread...I lost a cinder block. No wonder my knees were hurting when I started all this.

OK, so I'm so not a vegetarian but definitely respect the lifestyle. I'm more of a neo-Southerner - a redneck with an edumacation :) Anyway, I've got to testify for the good ole' peanut. It is peanut harvest season where I live and fresh roasted, boiled, or raw, they are an excellent protein source (the highest of any nut…

Welcome, I'm from LA (Lower Alabama).

I agree, Ken, this site has been tremendously helpful and has kept me focused. Glad to have you aboard for the long haul.

I got a Polar FT60 after I lost my first 10 pounds as a a reward. That was back around May of this year. It is a little over $100 new but you can find one on ebay for cheaper and usually still in the box. I like mine because it keeps a pretty accurate calorie burn and also provides some other features like a fitness test…

Eight pounds in 5 weeks is a pretty good start if you ask me. I realize we all want quick results but I have found the things that really last in life, in whatever arena, seem to be realized by a slow, steady, but determined pace. Keep up the good work. Consistency is what wins the day.

That sounds like a very manipulative thing to say. One thing that manipulators count on is the fact that conscientious people usually can't stand to see anyone suffering.

I love some one minute oats...2 servings of half a cup...some splenda and bang!! 300 calories and I'm good till afternoon. I usually eat at 6:30am. Good fiber to start the day...these are good carbs and it sticks to your ribs. Or, I've lately added a new protein recipe of pumpkin muffins made with protein powder...two…

That's my sandwich minus the cucumbers. I also get some kettle cooked jalapeno chips and unsweet tea. Love it!!

There is a butcher's shop across the street from my office with a small dine-in area. They serve a grilled pimento cheese sandwich with the thickest slices of hickory smoked bacon I have ever had. Pimento cheese didn't sound good to me but when a friend insisted I try it (he was buying) I had it and it was from the beyond.…

Ate a 6" sub for lunch instead of the footlong. The 6" sub was plenty and I felt full (+ the chips). Haven't had a single drink with sugar or artificial sweetener all day (or most days for that matter).

So the fitbit is a really good step counter and a HRM is a necessity for accurate calorie burns during a real workout?

The spirit from which this reply is intended is not one of defensiveness or counter attack. It is only from my own experience, strength, and hope. I'm not skinny and I have a way to go. But, I am training to be more fit and healthy. It is a process. One day I hope to be one of those people who others observe to be in great…

The most informative thread I have read on MFP since I began. Thanks

You are definitely an inspiration. You are the definition of what it means to say, "I'm training" instead of saying "I'm trying". Mark my words, when someone tells you they will try they are going to fail. But, when someone says I'm training, they will make it.

OK, so I went like 667 cal. over today. I'm not overly concerned though. I really think I'm experiencing a life change right now. I don't care to give up on this and everyone has an off day. So, I had a fat breakfast (sunrise service at church), slept the afternoon away, enjoyed a Mexican lunch, and have had movie theater…

My lovely bride and I began together. We are both on mfp and are pretty new. We're going to the gym regularly with our daughters, changing our diet and just enjoying the journey together. I especially like the time that I'm getting with our daughters at the gym. It beats sitting and staring at the television or doing…

"The one “natural” no calorie sweetener I like is called stevia. There’s one brand that makes a lemon-flavored variety. I add a few drops in my water and it makes it taste like lemonade" (Dr. Daniel Amen) of AmenClinics.net. I'm a big fan of Daniel's work and have referred a couple of my clients to him over the years for…

I experience this also. When I notice it is coming, I begin standing on my toes. It changes up the work out significantly for my calves and the tingling leaves pretty quickly.
