  • Just a couple cents worth. There are many mental blocks to running, it can be night, cold, wind, rain, or whatever we want to imagine. With proper gear and caution there are few conditions that can't be managed (lightning for example). I live in Iowa, been running for 15 years and have learned to enjoy the winter running…
  • Tom, we may need to change the title to cattle club, for all that salad grazing you've been doing.... so sorry to be OVER on cals!!! I had to take an interview candidate out to lunch, so that did not go well, even eating broccoli as a sub for fries. I'll also be in Nashville next week and that will be very tough, everyone…

  • Oh my!!! Where to start, what a funny day in the turtle club …… Taco Hell, donuts, dead folk, Leash’s driving a car called Gloria Estafan (Ha! I totally do that, one of my cars years past was the Swamp Donkey…haha)… it all totally cracks me up! Love the new profile pic Julie! I love hearing about what everyone does (or…
  • Erika, this really cracked me up.... and for sure I am Barmy Potty...I'll share it with the kids, they will get a giggle out of it. Although I am not British, prolly not American either.... the truth may be in a distance galaxy far....far....away, with wookies and yoda's and what-not....haha! Oh Tabby.... Sam Adams is a…
  • Fitting for the heaviest in the crew to provide eating advice (oink oink) hahah! Actually, for me it's a grunt grunt. Get to know zero or negative calorie foods and like them, they are miraculous to feel full and not grow the cal count. They actually taste good if you give em a chance, for me especially the mixed fruits,…
  • Oh yes, headache gone, thank you!!! Off to take my little girl to gymnastics and run off the stresses of the day. Ray
  • Becky...Powerless against the croissant au chocolate "oui, en francais svp"   Erika... great news on your Dad. B.... ha, I totally laugh at this little piggy stuff. • Absolutely Tabby!!!!! Julie is looking for some shorties...haha! Leash... I am not as "loony" today, I have a big headache. I had to get a bit rough with someone on my team this morning too, really miffed at how they had to act. Hope the results of your MRI are good. Off to lunch, not to eat, but enjoy some FRESH AIR, and…
  • Welcome Wendy! She is my bud, a "good egg", and working on her first marathon this spring. Ray
  • I don’t like to post my weight, it’s a “big” number but I am just a big fella. I did Boston Marathon at 210lbs, so it’s a really good target for me, but still seems like a big number. When I competed for time, I was a bit of an oddity at 200+ lbs clicking 6 or sub 6’s in the 5/10k variety races. That is one of my goals…
  • That is great advice, and absorb all you can and experiment with different things during training, which you have plenty of time for. You do have a lot of EXCELLENT advice so I won't try to re-spin anything that's said, but I do have a good tip on shoes. Try to buy a few pair of shoes and rotate them during your training.…
  • Oh.... Tom (or Pa), one last thing. YOU ROCK! Many of my training pals are in the 50's and they have not slowed down either, and it is such an inspiration. Keep it up, it's only a number bud! In fact, the 50's is a highly competitive age group, they really rock. In fact.... planning to run 14 with a good friend who is 64…
  • Heelarious turtle club today... .what a great Monday break!!! I totally rule any height war at 6'4" and certain I'll be the scale tipper in the bunch too, that is unless a real wookie joings the club. I'll get the official weight in the morning, I am 38 and it feels very mature to me. Ray
  • OK, let me try to pull this all together Tom Dis is yer son from long time ago, ma said I could find ya here. Been meaning to ask ya about why I feel so darn bad for eatin to much cookin and stuff. Not sure how old I am neither, but ma says I look young but act just like my pa who is a good runner and all. Then I see these…
  • Good Guy wins!! Long Live Lung Love!! Good call!! Ray
  • What many don’t realize, I started at 250+ lbs on this fitness journey and I’d seriously be ~300lbs right now if I didn’t do all this stuff. I have 5 brothers that remind me what I could be..Ho Ho Ho! I let about 5 creep in over the last 2 weeks and that’s gotta stop too. Let’s all get skinny with it… …
  • Salty after a run just means you sweat a ton, so it is a 2 step function, you are too warm or you went a really long ways, maybe some of both. Since it’s fall it is easy to layer a bit too much trying to stay warm. Rule of thumb is dress ~20 degrees warmer when running. There is nothing wrong with it, but it makes you need…
  • Kechie Thanks for checking in…..if you did not then you’d be running fast for sure because we’d be chasing ya down…haha! Not every race is a PR, but pulling a personal worst must be difficult to process. You are entirely right about going forward, and it is your true character that shows in those situations. Let those…
  • Kechie... how the heck did ya do? I checked your profile and there was nada posted. Let us know, or maybe it's a man brain thing and missed it, it was next year or something stupid...haha. Never understimate a guy with a big heart and small brain...
  • I am sitting here with a Corona light, after a decent helping of pizza…oh my!!! Very busy weekend, and I’ll break it into two short stories. OFFICE HANDS With a weekend full of house projects I am constantly reminded that my hands are trained for spreadsheets and not rip cutting OSB. I removed tons of siding, wrapped the…
  • Great Luck Kechie, and can't wait to hear about it. Last tri we heard about the pirate adventures of the one-eyed swimmer, and of course the devish run the other week, we'll have to see what surprise is in store for us! Kelynn has a BIRTHMONTH... haha! Super cool people get a whole month to celebrate. I think I get a…
  • Nitz.... don't EVER think it's not an accomlishment. ANY marathon done is a job well done!!! The thing that stinks, you do the training time, but somehow the races seem to fall apart a bit, which really sucks. If training goes "well" and seems hydration is fine, then it comes down to nutrition, carbs, and it could be good…
  • Honest...ha! Ya left plenty on the field of play my friend, no doubt on that. A good marathon and stairs should be difficult. Somehow you've got an energy or fatigue thing to work out, seems like the legs are under-utilized. Race post-mortem is a vital part of improvement, and I try to study everything that "hurts"…
  • I still think you need a gluten free loaf of pumpkin bread with just enough candles to feel mature... no more....HA! So... it's Happy Birthmonth now, and Birthweek coming soon...right? Yippee! Kel..too bad you had a bad day, but.... 78 of any age is bound to induce some lunacy! Hang in there, or act pyscho crazy and scare…
  • Ya... I am thinking THEIR vacation plans are to Twin Cities...it is AMAZING race and on my calendar too! bgood, we'll need to be working Becky a bit on this cold wimpery too..hahaha! All we hear is heavy bag this, muay thai that, kicking, hitting, don't mess with me....BUT it's too cold..... whaaayyyy!  …
  • As Leash said, one ~15 miler and some "garbage" runs just to keep moving.
  • Big Sur is epic! Leash wins for sure, this is on my "bucket" list, along with great wall of china marathon.
  • Maybe VA beach.....BUT.... I'll be in Disney world....hahaha! Kel was coming too.... right? Haha! OK, east coast huh? I do travel to the Carolina's often (Raleigh NC, Columbia SC, sometimes Seneca, SC too). Could make a great reason to visit...eh? It cracks me up....I ask for a "pop", they say, "you mean a coke", so I…
  • OK.... we ALL pick a marathon next year and run it....HA! That would be awesome, and I've heard great things about M&M's at mile 18.
