With arthritis, I'd be careful of the dairy. Just like gluten, dairy will get your inflammatory response going, and I'm sure that you wouldn't want that. Look into the anti-inflammatory diets, or go Paleo (which would fit into GF as well).

But 2.5 lbs is great for just about a week! That is great progress! More is great too, but 2 lbs in a week is awesome. Going too low will make you think you're restricting and you will be more likely to "cheat". At 30% carb, I still indulge occasionally, but I don't miss what I want to eat (because I still can). It is so…

Greek yogurt - plain and flavored, 0% fat. It is great as a sour cream substitute (plain one) and for a snack (fruit mixed in).

You don't have to go ultra low carb. My 30% carb ratio now gives me 105g for a 1600 calorie daily goal (which increases if I get some exercise in). I think the key is to lower your carb intake but you don't have to go LOW carb (i.e. paleo or Atkins diets). Also, the whole idea of balancing every meal with a little bit of…

If you weren't able to lose weight until you did low carb, you may have the beginnings of insulin resistance or pre-diabetes (or other medical condition). Check that out first, I was in the same boat and I had gotten blood work returned last year saying I'm prediabetic. Once I switched my macros to 35%/30%/35% (carb, fat,…

Hearts of palm are great if you like pickled things. Pickled beets are also a great bang for the buck (even if they are starchier). I like to put them on salads though and do away with dressing. The pickled beet juice is both sweet and sour so I can usually get away with just a little bit that comes out with the pickled…

Do you have a medical condition that developed with or without the pregnancy? Gestational diabetes or other (i.e. PCOS, insulin resistance) can really take a toll on your weight loss if you don't look at your macros.

Coconut oil is good for anything olive oil is used for while cooking. There is a bit of coconut smell if the food gets cooled down. Otherwise, when it is hot, you can't even tell the difference.

1) Drink a lot less of it. 2) Prelog it and drink a lot less of it (using it as a reward at the end of the day but fitting it into your daily calories). 3) Cut it out all together if you can't moderate the drinking of it. Those are really your only options. Take a look at how much sugar and calories are in sweet tea and…

3 weeks for me and only after I adjusted my carb ratios.

I love PT's (the good ones though). The good ones will motivate you and will teach you. If you don't need teaching, then they can push you further. If you are hurt or sore, they should be able to modify exercises for the session to give you a great session all the time. I'm one to get lazy and not push myself as hard as I…

Firstly, did you weigh everything that you ate? Not weighing foods could make you overshoot your calories (without realizing it). Secondly, do you have any medical conditions? This would include diabetes, PCOS, Insulin resistance, etc. Have you tried to play with your macros yet? This would entail a more even split between…

BMR is basal metabolic rate, so I'm assuming that you meant TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). You shouldn't and MFP doesn't set your caloric goal below your BMR to lose weight. Other than that, do you do weight training? Trying to build muscle mass would help burn more calories. Shoot for eating about 1g per lb of…

If you're looking for a more homeopathic remedy, my mom use to drink Aloe (fresh from the plant) that was crushed up and steeped in hot water like a tea twice a day. It worked wonders. Again, everyone is different and it worked just as well as Nexium did for her.

Your rate of loss that you desired when programming it into MFP was too high. At only 25lbs to lose, your weight loss rate should be much lower and it will give you a higher caloric count. Your rate should be 0.5-1lb per week (even the 1 lb per week is debatable) though. You will find that starving yourself won't be…

Polar H7 heart rate monitor with the Pebble Smartwatch to sync up to my phone. Haven't worked out how to sync up the H7 to Pebble yet, but that's what I want to do ultimately.

I've had that type of feeling only once (I called it my Biggest Loser moment) and it was a few things that brought it on: first, I was borderline hypoglycemic (I sat down otherwise, I was going to puke, but it didn't help. Only when I took a couple of drinks of Gatorade did my feeling faint go away); second, I was coming…

I forgot the alcohol and tobacco triggers.

Is there any way to save the calories for after 10:30 to allow the eating? Otherwise, being aware of the problem is half of your battle.

Another +1 on mini goals. Your 30lbs/month is way higher than is recommended so no wonder you're not going to make them. Even if you did make that goal, you wouldn't sustain because you're probably STARVING to get there and then binging when you aren't even aware of it. Go with 1-2 lbs per week (giving you 4-8 lbs/month)…

You are correct. I would suggest to calculate the numbers for your TDEE as a female and male then subtract off the correct numbers to lose your desired amount (now you have the TDEE - 10% or so for both). Look at how long your transition will take (i.e. 3 months) to be fully counted as a male hormonally. Then average out…

FYI, Tecta is another of the class with Nexium, Prevacid, and Prilosec.

It doesn't look like you've got a lot of weight to lose. If you're looking to change body composition, you need to start transitioning to Maintenance and start up with more weight training. This will allow you the calories to get more protein for your muscle repair. Without going to extremes (there are weight training…

As a past pharma rep that sold Nexium and Prilosec, these are some helpful hints. -Losing weight absolutely helps (after you make sure you don't have a hiatal hernia) -If your symptoms are mostly at night when you sleep, prop up the bed a few inches (if possible) at the head so that gravity can help -I forget which side…

As a word of advice, just take this list with a grain of salt. I've seen these foods with different GI numbers in other lists that I've Googled. Just compare the numbers and look for other lists as well. It's a good enough starter list though.

Start by doing the little things first. Besides adding in the extra movement, you can start evaluating what you're eating. Do you weigh your food and log drinks? If you are accurately logging or being aware of the calories going into your body, you can figure out what you need to do. Do you know what your TDEE and/or…

Get lots of sleep for the week leading up to the wedding, at the least. You've already started what you are able. If you are consistent with low carb right now and don't cheat, you should be able to drop water weight at a minimum which will get you a couple of pounds. Sleep is the only other variable to add into the…

Going vegan/vegetarian while going low carb might be a huge challenge. I am low carb, but not ultra low (like keto diet or anything like that). I am insulin resistant, but I don't have PCOS. I've seen similarities in the threads though. If you aren't vegan/vegetarian by any other choice than being healthier, I would switch…

My definitions are simple and are still accurate. Like I said, there is a difference in what gross you were referring to versus what I was referring to. How is that redefining Gross or net? You don't have to overcomplicate it and my advice was no more or less correct than yours. Semantics...SMH

My Net I was talking about is synonomous with the "remaining calories" line on your food diary. So MY Gross and Net definitions: Gross = "Totals" line in your food diary and what you've taken in Gross (Should be) = Your Daily goal line MFP has calculated with your deficit included for weight loss with no exercise (possibly…
