  • Stepping back should include something. Perhaps you should not weight lift, but instead do yoga or just the elliptical. Movement will always be better than stagnant unless you broke a limb. Stress relief is usually helpful to a lot of medical issues.
  • In the beginning, any movement (more than you were already) is better than no movement. So just try and do body weight exercises and challenge yourself (planks, pushups, lunges, squats, etc.). See what you can do max before pooping out or whatever amount of time you can do, and then up that by one or one minute (depending…
  • When I first started (MANY years ago), I would do 3 sets of 20. My butt would be sore with just that. If you're just starting out, concentrate on getting that form down and really working the glutes. If you are really squeezing each and every time, 20 in a set is plenty (maybe even too much). Edit: I forgot to put my…
  • Sounds like a body recomp is what you need then (lowering body fat and not necessarily weight). Don't focus on a large caloric deficit as much, but rather stay at a maintenance level or slightly below and weight train.
  • If you've calculated your BMR and TDEE correctly, then you shouldn't be going below your BMR. Double check that number first. Then if you've got it right, and cannot do exercises, then your TDEE is probably correct too. Seems like you're not able to mover around much with only an additional 300 calories or so for the day.…
  • How high is the high after working out? I would assume that your body will get used to the working out and level out eventually, but the workouts have to be consistent. Just like your resting heart rate will decrease over time as you are getting fitter, your body should be getting more efficient with using the glucose in…
  • First step is to calculate what your calorie requirement is at this age. It's a fact of life, as we age, the weight doesn't fly off and stay off anymore. It will take some getting used to, but you need to be at the right starting point of what your calories required are. Then you can start to say to yourself "I'd like to…

  • It sounds like you are already quite healthy. If you are actually concerned about health, you would need to stay at your current weight considering that you have quite a bit of muscle. If you truly want to cut down, then you would need to cut your calories at the risk of losing some of your muscle. I say stay at your…
  • Are you able to swim on a normal basis? This would get you the swimmers' build. If not, body weight is ok for now since you can't go heavy. Lots of push up variations and pull up variations to help you get some of the swimmer muscles. Since you have knee problems, squats without proper form would be killer. Can…
  • Foam rolling and stretching helps lots of things. If you are looking for something else to try (too much pain to work out normally), do some yoga instead. If your pain improves with yoga, then stretching is definitely what you needed. Perhaps get a deep tissue massage. If this helped the pain, then foam rolling on a normal…
  • The closest "exercise" that I could find was Cleaning - light effort and Cleaning - vigorous effort. Try those options and perhaps your calories will be reflected. I tested Cleaning - vigorous for 60 minutes and it gave me 201 calories which seems pretty high, but not outrageously high. So I'd go with those entries and…
  • Try to keep your big toe lifted while doing a body weight squat (focusing on proper form). If you can do this, then you just have to gradually increase your weight. You'll find that with your big toe lifted, you HAVE to put all the weight on your heels to lift yourself up. If this is too difficult, then it is all in…

  • I used Chantix and was done with smoking in 2 months on the drug. It worked great for me with no side effects and only 2 months of copay. I'm nicotine free for 7 years now and only had the rare craving for it, but more for the social aspects than anything else (drinking and smoking or the after dinner smoke, etc.). I…
  • Everyone is right, PLUS, you are older than when all the weight all fell off. As we age, it just wants to stay on us more. It doesn't mean that you can't, it just means that it will take a little longer than it did before. Stay with it, keep to a calorie deficit, and be honest. The weight will still come off, albeit a…
  • Besides swimming, hiking and taking in the sights are always a great way to stay active on vacation. Will there be any historical stuff around where you're going? Walking tours are always a fun, yet active way of staying busy while away. Edit: I saw that you DO love running instead of don't so I took it out. Most of all,…
  • 5'4" HW: 160lbs CW: 147lbs GW: 140lbs (goal is actually to be 20-24% body fat) so not really that strict on goal weight. My calories per day is 1380, but set at sedentary. I am not really sedentary, but I tend to overeat so I want to keep that allowable number low. I also don't set exercise calories in, so it kind of evens…
  • There are definitely diabetes group forums on MFP. You just have to look them up. Good luck, everyone!
  • Everything contains sodium in it (this would include meat and veggies) even if you haven't added any into or onto it. Living organisms need sodium to live (so do we, by the way). So if there is zero sodium in an MFP food entry, the entry is definitely wrong, unless it was a non-living thing (i.e. something artificial like…
  • There is also such a thing as a placebo effect. Maybe all of these things are acting as a placebo.

  • My thought was that maybe they have whey protein fillers that give you less calories but increase the protein? Maybe? Check the ingredients. Also, there are such things as truncation errors which are compounded by the company being able to round down. Those errors just snowball.
  • +1 on being ok. Just fit everything into your day's calorie allotment. If you blow through 100% of your calories in one meal, you might get hungry during the night time. If it is easier for you to eat all of your calories in one sitting, then by all means, that is ok too.

  • That has to be the info for drained. The calories are too low to be for the sardines when it is dripping with oil. Maybe you can drain it on a paper towel and then you're being conservative.
  • I like the salmon with honey mustard glaze (also baked). I found lots of ways to prepare fish from allrecipes.com where you can find almost any type of cuisine or ingredient to work around. I've wrapped the fish in puff pastry, I've glazed it, I've marinaded it, and my husband has so far liked all of the ways I've found…

  • I tried it for a few months with no improvement in my health. I was hoping for energy, but no luck. I guess it depends on what you're trying to get out of it. I couldn't get past the algae look of it after I tried it with no success so I stopped using it. The marketing for it is great though and it definitely got me to buy…

  • Sorry, yup. You're correct. I gotta keep my dictionary handy next time.
  • Calipers only measure visceral fat. That's why it is so inaccurate.
  • If you get hungrier, then heck yeah, I'd change the status. It all depends on if you need those extra calories. Otherwise, you can lose all the more quickly without eating back those calories. If you do additional exercises, I'd count those.
  • Someone was definitely on top of removing those threads. Hopefully, they locked out their account.
  • 20-25% body fat is actually pretty healthy for a woman. If you are a male, then you are eating WAY fewer calories than is healthy. You weight loss rate should not be to high. Try weighing and logging more accurately and see if this affects things.
