  • As I understand it, HRMs are really only effective when your heartrate is sufficiently elevated (when doing a cardio exercise). If you sit on the couch and continue to wear your HRM it will show you burning calories but those are not workout calories. There is always an overlap with RMR.
  • Sorry I didn't post for a bit, been busy. You are AMAZING! It is hard to believe those pics are of the same person! You look great and I know you have worked hard to get there! W00T W00T!
  • Took me a while to post, but just wanted to say how awesome and dedicated you are man! WTG, W00T, Rockin!!!
  • You are my hot baby girl! Congrats again!
  • Swimming tends to burn more calories than running primarily because of water resistance. You are not just propelling yourself forward, you are fighting against the water instead of just thin air. Now it will of course vary based on how hard to work at each exercise. One more advantage of swimming...low impact!
  • Lately I have been quoting Aliens a lot. "I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit...only way to be sure." and of course: "Game Over Man! Game Over!
  • In every reputable study I have ever seen, ANY beverage contributes to hydration, whether it is water, soda, coffee, milk, etc. Furthermore, we get approximately 20% of our water intake from foods. From my research, here are the main points: - Everything we eat or drink contains water, some foods like lettuce contain 95%…
  • More posting to come, but drinking 16 oz of water in one sitting is no big deal, drinking a gallon in one sitting would be bad.
  • I weigh 194 lbs and I love DDR. I play at home on my XBOX where it has a calorie calculator built in. At my weight I tend to burn about 375 calories per hour...and that is taking very limited time picking songs. I find it to be great exercise. Not quite as much burn as an elliptical workout, but way more interesting. For…
  • I love 'DDR'ing on my XBox. I find it easier to do a workout if I am playing a video game :)
  • I agree, going with fish is usually a healthier choice. Another option: Crab, shrimp, and lobster are all healthy (believe it or not) if they are prepared right. Eat them steamed or boiled WITHOUT BUTTER! ...and definitely stay away from the Shrimp Scampi.
  • Since I started eating Greek yogurt, I have trouble even considering regular yogurt. Greek yogurt has 0% fat and lots of protein too! It also doesn't have a lot of the artificial ingredients found in many "regular" low-fat brands. I personally like honey and blueberry flavors (about 130 calories depending on brand), but if…
  • I agree. There is no reason to have so many "walk" days. One thing of note: in talking with a friend who runs marathons, he said that it IS important to take rest days and above all only try to improve a little bit at a time. If you are striving to always push beyond your limits you will fatigue your body, and your body…
  • It was fun running...climbing...that with you. I survived, but you are AWESOME! Always nice to do it for a great cause too!
  • That rocks! Running every day for a year shows awesome dedication. WTG!
  • Lol. There is some truth to that Tim, but Chrissy doesn't make it too hard. You are doing great yourself!
  • Wow! I knew you were looking great and working hard, but it is amazing to see the overall results. Since I see you every day I don't always notice the changes, but you look smokin' hot!!! I am lucky to be your husband! Thanks for being a good motivation for me too!
  • BMI = crap (unless you are a life insurance agency just looking to manage risk over a large number of clients). Basically it is a formula that generalizes the population but may bear very little resemblance to truth for an individual. University of Chicago political science professor Eric Oliver says BMI is a convenient…
  • I hate to admit it, but I actually enjoy watching "Dude, Where's My Car?"
  • Well said. :) Just a personal observation, but I can walk a mile without it really taxing me. I know I burn calories walking, but it can't possibly compare to the "I should die now" burn I get from running a mile.
  • ...and I am learning to take leftovers to work for my co-workers to eat. :) (btw, I'm her hubby)
  • * Where did you spend most of your childhood growing up? In a neighborhood called "Kachina Village" outside of Flagstaff, AZ. * What was the name of the street you grew up on? Toho Ave. * Do you still talk to your first best friends? Not for several years now. * What toy could you most often be found playing with? Our…
  • I tend to think of processed as more of an ingredient issue than a storage issue. Whether a food is frozen, canned, bagged, fully-cooked, partially-cooked, etc. doesn't really matter in my opinion. What matters is what ingredients are added, or what nutrients are taken away. In particular I try to stay away from items that…
  • Done! Thanks!
  • That is a great breakfast wrap! I can't post my breakfast today because it was donut and bagel day at work, lol. But you all are doing great!
  • The greatest movie ever made: LORD OF THE RINGS !!! I have yet to find anything that comes close. Honorable mention: THE PRINCESS BRIDE  Some of my favorite lines from The Princess Bride: "INCONCEIVABLE!!! You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. " "You fool! You fell victim to one…
  • Thanks for posting this article. Knowledge is power in the the fight against obesity!
  • I am trying to reduce my intake of regular soda (I have a bad Coca-Cola habit). I never even considered going to diet sodas because I cannot stand the taste of artificial sweeteners (not to mention the bad effects they will have on you too). I am also starting to drink the flavored seltzer water when I want something…
  • I am curious, at what level do you have your "Normal daily activities" setting? My daily activity is set to sedentary because of my low physical activity lifestyle and job. If I take the dog for a walk, doesn't that burn more calories than sitting in front of a computer screen? Should I NOT be counting those calories? In…
  • So this raises a good question: Does consuming sugar make you more susceptable to Diabetes? Does it matter if it is sugar from natural sources, refined, or (dare I even say the evil word) High Fructose Corn Syrup? My opinion is that you should try to consume sugar from natural sources as much as possible, but sugar itself…
