  • This is why I didn't like it when I tried it (I think it was one of the points plans several years ago). I refuse to buy low fat products, I prefer to just eat real food and I cook mostly all my meals from scratch. It seemed that using 100 calories worth of regular cheese or butter or something used up a lot more points…
  • Lately I've been using vanilla protein powder with chocolate coconut milk, a banana and a few raspberries. (And whipped cream on top) Not really a meal replacement but more of a frappuccino replacement. Keeps me from going to Starbucks every day, cheaper and healthier too.
  • Pet peeves... Co-workers pushing products that claim to "reset your metabolism" and "balance your horomones" etc. (Only $250.00 a month!) People who are still stuck on eating low fat and fat free everything. The assumption that anyone who is overweight is automatically unhealthy and destined to die of a heart attack at age…
  • I've done the same thing for the past 10 years or so. Lose a few pounds, and then lose motivation after a week or two and get off track and gain it back. I've had to change my way of thinking, and I've actually done well for the past six weeks and lost 8 lbs so far. Some of my thoughts: If I don't get serious about it now,…
  • I hate getting up early so I almost always do my workouts at night.
  • Surgery was definitely worth it in my case. My gallbladder was enlarged and had spots of gangrene on it when they took it out. And I almost didn't even go to the hospital because I started feeling better.
  • I agree with just about everything that has been said. Leave her alone. She knows she needs to lose weight, but it won't happen until she decides for herself to do it. I was a normal size until I gained a few pounds when I hit puberty. I felt like I was really fat, but looking back at pictures now I realize I wasn't. Maybe…
  • My main symptom was upper back pain, and sometimes feeling like I had a tight band around my chest. I never got it checked out because it felt like muscle pain and I thought it was from bad posture or something, though it kept slowly getting worse. It went on for a year and a half before I had my gallbladder out. I never…
  • I think it has to be a permanent lifestyle change, behavior modification, education, and the ability to keep a close eye on yourself and keep from slacking off. At least that's what I'm hoping for myself. For example, up until about six years ago I rarely cooked. My refrigerator would be empty except for some yogurt and…
  • I wanted to be an archeologist or a rebel spaceship pilot. (Maybe had something to do with my crush on Harrison Ford) Now I'm a graphic artist/small business owner.
  • I've been trying lose weight, always "starting fresh" every day, for probably the last 12 years. I could never stick to anything for more than three days because I would always find some excuse to go off my diet. One day I was messing around on the internet and got sucked into reading a forum thread of ER horror stories,…
  • Yes - I agree with getting a second/third/ opinion, etc. My uncle was having GI issues, and they did an ultrasound and said he had polyps in his gallbladder. He had it removed, but it didn't solve his problem. (He also lives in a rural/small town area where they don't always have access to good doctors) There is always a…
  • Your symptoms do sound gallbladder-ish... My co-worker's husband had the belching/nausea problem before he finally got his out. I had my gallbladder removed two months ago. My only symptom for a year and a half was occasional mild upper back pain (slowly getting more frequent) that would sometimes wrap around my chest and…
  • I started doing this recently (derailed a bit over Easter but back on track now) and I think it works well for me. I decided to do this because I have this problem that if I eat a meal and it's not something that I really like, or if it wasn't super tasty and delicious, then I sort of feel like I was cheated and I want to…
  • I'd like to try some real (full fat) greek yogurt. It's impossible to find anything but low fat/fat free in my area. I've tried the low fat stuff and it tastes chalky to me.
  • I know someone who did this for a year, lost weight, and gained it all back plus more. Now she's into it again, but I think the same thing will happen when the motivation starts to wear off. The plan goes something like this: you drink three protein shakes a day, and get a few snacks consisting of lean protein. Then they…
  • I would do some research on women and statins before you take any. There is not a lot of evidence that women receive the same benefits that men do from statins. Some studies (Jupiter) show a risk reduction of about 50%, which sounds impressive. But what that really means, is that 2.1% of the women in the non-statin group…
  • So Mother Nature knows best. Does "Mother Nature" not also produce meat and dairy? And the message on the bag of veggies to "eat five a day" is not propaganda by the vegetable industry? :)
  • I have a friend who has been doing this off and on for the past year. She always loses weight during the 8 day program, and then gains it back. After a year, she hasn't really made any progress, and I think has gained a bit from where she started. Honestly, from what I've seen of it - it looks like a very low carb diet…
  • You might want to try eating more protein/fat and less carbs in the morning. I used to eat oatmeal for breakfast and could never understand why I would be absolutely starving two hours later. I would be less hungry if I just skipped breakfast. Now I usually eat a few slices of bacon and I'm good until noon or later.
