  • Try getting your chai skinny with less syrup. Little changes can add up too :) Random thought, but after all these visits I hope you've gotten a Gold Card! BTW - to the person who brought up the green tea lattes, just get them with no syrup and it still tastes great (more matcha-y which I prefer).
  • Seconded! But I can't find kale chips around here that cost less than $9/bag, so I make my own. Cut up the leaves, toss with a bit of oil and seasoning (I just use himalayan salt but some people use bbq spice mixes, Old Bay, etc.), and place in the oven. If you can go "low and slow", they would take about 30-40 mins at 200…
  • that's an ADORABLE comic :) will try it provided the peach doesn't smile back at me as i'm prepping it. haha
  • Your goals are very similar to mine! The best (and most frequent) advice I've gotten is to exercise, exercise, exercise. We're at a good weight for our height, so it takes work to lose. Diet alone isn't enough. (It's easier said than done, I know.) Good luck and feel free to friend me since we have a similar journey :)
  • Fascinating! I've never tried fennel raw but I love it sauteed (not the healthiest preparation, I know). Ditto on the jicama recommendation! I love it raw, julienned, and with a squeeze of lime. So refreshing!
  • The ban passed 10 years ago and is taking effect this year. It's not a government thing so much as a lobbying by animal rights groups targeting a food product not many people are well-informed about. But the long story short is that I love good food and foie is one of them! (And yes, my doctor did not appreciate it. haha)
  • Definitely! Especially if it's a water-filled lettuce like romaine. :) I've recently been on a papaya kick. It's incredibly low calorie, high fiber, and great for a filling, sweet dessert.
  • It's not really the season for it anymore, but I love making butternut squash soup :) Here's my recipe for it: http://nomnomcat.com/2011/11/11/butternut-squash-soup/ I used canned chicken broth (awful, I know) but to make it low sodium, just use either a low sodium broth or make your own chicken stock so you can control…
  • Foie gras is being banned in a week here in CA so many restaurants have been doing "Farewell to Foie" type dinners. I splurged on an eight course dinner at Melisse (a Michelin starred restaurant)... each course easily used 2 oz of foie, yielding an entire pound by the time the evening was through. That dinner set me back…
  • Actually that frozen banana "ice cream" is literally just a frozen banana. Once frozen solid, stick it in a food processor and it'll blend into a texture that remarkably resembles ice cream!! And I too have jumped on the Vitatops band wagon. I've only tried the chocolate ones but they're great -- only 100 cals and a lot of…
  • Ditto the suggestion to do planks! Also, have you considered taking up yoga? There are a lot of yoga flows that strengthen your core (Warrior II being my favorite!) and there are many beginner yoga classes and videos out there. Try downloading free audio/video files at yogadownload.com.
  • I feel grateful to live in Los Angeles, one of the food capitals of the world. Quality food from just about any culture or cuisine is within easy driving distance and the talent of the chefs who have set up shop here is inspiring. I love to cook, I love going out to try new restaurants, and I especially love to eat. I love…
  • My ipod played Journey in the car and the youngsters I was with exclaimed "OMG THAT'S THE SONG FROM GLEE" .......
  • This sounds AWESOME! Please keep us posted. I've been wanting to build a TARDIS kitty condo, not unlike one of these... http://mousebreath.com/2012/01/30/tardis-cat-condo-mancat-mancave/ Best of luck!
  • My bf recently pointed out that they use that song for just about every season premiere and finale episode. SO GOOD. :) And to add to the thread, I LOVED the recent episode "The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo". It was geektastic!
  • my boyfriend would have to borrow my computer since mine more than meets the specs (whereas his would die a slow painful death). :) custom building ftw!
  • I think just about everyone gains in college. It just happens. Dining halls, late night pizza, and drinking are far from conducive to weight loss! :) Good luck with your goals!!
  • DItto on shoulder blades. Or if you have the budget / time / pain tolerance for it, something that runs along the torso across the back would look awesome. I'm planning something like this for my second one. :)
  • Brunner has it right. Sushi is the overarching term, and the dishes can include temaki (hand rolls... the "cones" of nori), makizushi (cut rolls), nigiri, sashimi, and chirashi among others. If you can afford it, sashimi would be your best bet, calorie-wise, since it eliminates the rice. Like another person mentioned, my…

  • I love lasagna!! One way to quickly cut calories is by making a hearty veggie lasagna instead of a meat-based one. Slices of eggplant, zucchini, and other squashes would be good for layering, along with some spinach. I'm not a big fan of ricotta, so I cut it out altogether and use mozzarella. I used to use the skim kind,…
  • ditto! I love guys' basketball shorts - i get the large size in the boys section at target and they're usually $6 a pair!
  • 23 female 5'3" 116 lbs Size 4 (waist 28 inches)
  • Thanks for your input, asjerven! Same here actually -- the number isn't really a big deal for me since I'm working on getting a flat stomach as well. I'll look into that thread you mentioned. Appreciate the tips!
  • agreed! talk to your landlord. both parties pay rent to live there, and like you said, you're exercising at 3pm. other than the 10pm "quiet enjoyment" clause present in most leases, you could probably get your landlord to help mediate a reasonable compromise in this "noise complaint" issue.
  • Thanks, jsapninz! I really appreciate your input. You're absolutely right -- I'm all-around smaller and don't have much to lose, so I'd have to net below 1,200 to see any difference. Makes sense. Also means I should get off my lazy butt and exercise more, rather than just depending on counting calories :) Thanks again!
  • It depends on what you're trying to get out of P90X. I think many will tell you that it's not as effective without following the entire routine with the nutrition plan (including all the products you mentioned in Question 1). Personally, I've been picking and choosing the videos as part of my regular exercise and it has…
  • impulse-bought the star wars kitties in helmets print. can't wait to hang it up though!
  • I love margherita pizzas with lots and lots of basil. It has to be the legit kind with slices of water-packed mozzarella, not just a regular cheese pizza with basil on top. lol.
  • Okay, I grew up watching my grandma eat a wedge with a banana every single morning, so we've had many cardboard rounds of Laughing Cow around the house. I had NO IDEA they sell them in regular (read: American) grocery chains!! I get mine from the Vietnamese / Asian grocery stores, so if all else fails, try checking them :)…
  • Try drinking tea :) I read somewhere that hot liquids give your stomach the warm fuzzy feeling and makes you feel "full". Alternatively, you could eat soup for lunch or even a snack if the right portion. And foods with lots of fiber and whole grains are supposed to make you feel full.
