Can anyone tell me how the metal plates work? I don't understand how it can measure body composition just from skin contact?!

I have problems with some of the formulas offered online g. the navy formula/ CDC because they are basing it on height/weight rather than body compostition so I'm guessing they're not going to be 100% I would like to use callipers but once again I am not trained to so I wouldn't be able to…
