Best advice I can give is start slow and small. There is always an urge when someone starts to try and loose weight to go all guns blazing, cut down food dramatically, try and exercise for hours everyday e.t.c... this won't work. make small changes, first week I just started weighing myself and logging what I eat. Next…

I'm with you on that one, been doing exercise and clean eating for 8 weeks, I have lost 14lbs! Congrats on your loss, you can really see the differance.

I hate going to the gym 'cause everyone there is really grumpy and moody....

To the guy above (musclefat2k), you are an inspiration if I ever saw one, awesome work! Not only did you clearly loose a crap-load of weight, makes you look a lot younger too! I am 6'1, started at 240lbs about 6 weeks ago and I was down to 228 on Saturday. I am trying to get ripped while loosing weight, so no going down to…

Your before pic looks about a month in the future for me now! Nice work everyone, very inspiring thread

^^ This is how to give advice. What annoys me more than unsolicited advice is people who have lost weight, and instantly assume the way they did it will work for every single person on the planet. I have no problem with advice, but when people say "your doing it wrong, do it this way or your thick!" it really gets my back…

I started eating 1500 calories when I started this and I was tired and hungry. Now I am eating more (pushing for 2000 a day every day, still needs to be higher!) and I feel much better. I do have a bit of sympathy with regards to the amount of food though, because calories don't dictate quantity of food. Someone could eat…

It doesn't calculate calories for strength training unfortunately, you either need a HRM (Heart Rate Monitor) or another similar device such as a fitbit
-
When you add exercise, add it to 'Strength Training' instead of 'Cardiovascular'

It does say you can leave weight blank if it is not appropriate, but once you get used to crunches a great way to up the difficulty is to hold a large flat weight meant for a dumbbell or barbell to your chest while doing them. If you look at my diary, for the crunches and planks the weight is empty, because it is not…

I know my wife has bought me one, I am just gonna try and be sensible and have small amounts of it a day until it is gone

i post everything I put in, helps me keep track of what I am eating, and my diary is public so you can take a look, bear in mind I need to eat minimum 2000 calories so my meals might be a bit too much for you!

I started at 240lbs and I lost 2lb in my first week, and have done that much consistently for the past 5 weeks, and I'm well chuffed with it. Slow and steady wins the race

I saw my GP last night as well funnily enough, and I told him I was trying to lose weight blah blah blah.... long story short, he said that my target weight should be anywhere between 200 and 220 pounds depending on how hard I wanted to push, which puts me in the overweight category according to BMI (200lbs would be 26.4,…

Just to throw my hat in the ring, I eat my breakfast before working out (so a bowl of cereal with semi skimmed milk, a small banana and a glass of orange juice) but I leave it half hour between finishing eating and starting my workout. I find it's long enough to get energy in my but also long enough so I don't feel sick…

I would look at it more of a lifestyle change than a diet, because a diet is temporary. If you do regular exercise and eat well, there is no reason for that ever to stop. My view of any kind of supplement is that is must be a temporary measure, where as good eating and exercise can become a permanent fixture in your life.…

I tend to go over on sugar and vit c but stay under for everything else. As long as you are not going over by huge amounts it's not a big problem, but it would be good to work towards bringing those values down, just because it means what you will be eating will be healthier. It's no good trying to do it all at once, maybe…

I would pick a day and time (important) once a week and log whatever it says, good or bad. It is important you log at the same time of day every time, preferably first thing in the morning before breakfast. I would also take measurements of everything you can be bothered to at the same time (I do neck, both upper and lower…

I think the easiest way to compare it, and explain it is using the term volume. 1lb of fat = 1lb of muscle = 1lb of feathers = 1 lb of lead Weight is a product of gravity, hence why you could lift a car on the moon despite the fact it hasn't changed size, it has little no weight but it's volume is the same. 1 cm^3 fat does…

I'm from Kent and I'm 25, that's 20ish right?

Agreed, this is what convinced me I wasn't eating enough and need at least 2000 calories a day. Amazing work man!
-
I am in the same boat, I have been eating between 1500 and 1800 a day, but my BMR is 2000 and I am trying to do at least 500 calories of exercise a day, with strength training on top so I need to increase by at least 700 - 1000 calories a day, and I am really struggling to do that without eating crap!

Thanks, some helpful stuff there. I think 14st 4lbs sounds about what I was before I quit smoking, so sounds like a nice target, I appreciate the scales aren't the be all and end all but that coupled with measurements is the most accurate idea I can get of where I am (body fat calculators can only go so far without…

Thanks for posting this, really interesting and helpful read!

I weight everyday as I use the Wii Fit as a warm up and stretching help, but I only record it once a week (Saturdays). I only concentrate on the Saturday-to-Saturday values and work out what I have lost over the week.

This is the same for me, I am pretty camera shy anyway so I didn't see myself alot, but I couldn't avoid it on my wedding day (last september). The last 6 months I have hated having to keep looking at the wedding photo's with every relative be cause I look so big... that was my push. That and the talk of having children…

The only thing I can suggest is making friends on here, and then letting them see your diary, and be very honest about what you eat... you'll be less likely to eat the doughnut if you know loads of people are gonna see it!

This. It's the bloke equivalent of dropping a dress size

I once got arrested for doing that, but it was fun ;)

To me, THIS is the motivating point. I am not "going on a diet" I am learning how to live healthily, so your right, there won't be a point when I'm done, but hopefully there will be a point when I'm happy and comfortable with the way I look and feel. I mainly started this to learn how to eat properly, and that is something…
