Yep. Obviously it's you can get some exercise in that will help your efforts, but you can definitely lose weight if you just change your diet.

Ummm. Me too. My Siamese likes to be cuddled. Especially when it's cold. And, yes, whenever I do push-ups or plank she head butts me so I have to stop and pet her. I like working out with cats.

Yep. Well, for me, it was wine and food. But it could have just as easily been beer. I just like wine better.

Old is always 10 years older than my current age. And middle age? Well, I don't have time to think about that because I'm too busy working toward achieving my goals. I suggest you do the same.

Agree--not impossible, just harder. Great advice from ruststar. Diet has to be a lot stricter, I've noticed. But there's no way could I have gone out and run 5 miles 20 years ago like I can now so you can definitely still be successful :flowerforyou:

Exercise alone will only take you so far if you still eat crap. Diet is more important.

Get a night splint from your doc and wear it every night. Get shoe inserts and buy better running shoes. Stretch your calves as much as possible--throughout the day. And, yes, avoid running on concrete, if possible. Finally, ice it by rolling your foot over a frozen water bottle after you run whether it's hurting right…

Your protein is low for your overall calorie intake and you eat a lot of carbs--healthy carbs it looks like, but still A LOT compared to how much protein you eat. People are suggesting you eat more fat--yes, more healthy, unsaturated fats like nuts, avocados, olive oil. And you're trainer is right; limit saturated…

Everyone has her vice and this is definitely mine. Some people splurge on fast food or fried food or decadent desserts. No thanks--I'm good. But do go ahead and pass that bottle of wine right on over here. As others have suggested, moderation is key--if it fits into your calories and it's not excessive, it probably won't…

My fitness goal is also to just to reduce body fat. I'm also seeing some good results with what I've been doing (lifting 2-3x a week-- increasing weight and building strength as well as some cardio). There's so much conflicting info about BMR and TDEE that I really don't know what these are for me. I've calculated this…

If you're really hungry (and not just bored ) eat! You only have a protein shake between 8-1? I'd be starving too!! Bring food with you to work and eat when you're hungry. I eat several small meals throughout the day--as long as you make healthy food choices you probably won't go over on calories.

Because your muscles don't get stronger when you're lifting; they get stronger when you're recovering from lifting--as they repair themselves. Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness--DOMS--when the muscle groups you worked are sore the next day or even the day after--that's the recovery. And if you're up for lifting weights again…

Great job--you can really see the difference in your profile pix! Way to go!!

Early, late or inside are the only options really. I tend to go early--7:30 or 8. It's really humid where I am so there's not much difference between 6am and 8am. I'm still soaked when I get done. But you can acclimate: http://www.active.com/running/Articles/Summer-Runs-How-to-Acclimate-to-the-Heat.htm

I live in the south and it's grossly hot and humid here in the summer. Even though I'm in my 40s, I have oily skin (but no wrinkles ha!) so I still use the same stuff I used when I was 16 to prevent breakouts--it works! Try Neutrogena's acne wash with a facial buff puff (gently massage around face, rinse, pat dry) before…

Two things--the ab wheel that someone else mentioned. It looks like a training wheel for a kid's bike but has a small handle/bar through the middle of the wheel. While kneeling you grab each side of the handle and stretch your body forward onto your stomach. Then pull yourself back to the starting position. Works all your…

Fage. Sometimes I make a chocolate milk shake with it: half a cup of Fage, half a cup of Silk Dark Chocolate Almond Milk, 1-2 tbsp of peanut butter; 2 scoops protein powder, and a few ice cubes. Ummmmm.

Yep--perfect. Just the right amount of definition. I agree completely.

Clearly it just gets harder as you get older. I was always under 135--sometimes way under without too much effort. In my 20s I weighed around 125-130 (and thought I needed to lose weight ha! I wanted to be like 115--totally ridiculous! I can't even image 130 right now!) that is, until I hit my late 30s. My lifestyle did…

I suspect the on again/off again deal is because he doesn't want anything serious with you. And who cares if she's a stripper--that's nothing to be jealous of. The real question isn't necessarily is he an idiot (and he most certain is or just really young and stupid because he couldn't come up with a better response) but…

Yes. And sometimes if I get to the bedroom early enough I'm even allowed to pick which side of the bed I want to sleep on.

Um, I don't want to feel like this big, butch amazon. My husband's not that much taller than me--probably about 3-4 inches but it's just enough. I once dated a guy many, many, many years ago that only weighed about 10lbs more than I did at the time--and I was skinny. Would not do that again. Height--not necessarily a…

Wow--completely amazing. You look great!!!

Agree--I'd love it if everything a doctor ever told me was completely accurate. But one) they're human too and they make mistakes; and 2) they can't be experts in every area of medicine/health. The whole drastically reduce calories is still conventional wisdom--people (a lot of doctors included) probably still think you…

True--and circuit training is often just an extended cardio workout (weights aren't heavy enough to build muscle and the point is to go quickly from machine to machine getting your heart rate up--cardio).Take a short, brisk walk to get warmed up for strength training then do more cardio afterwards. If you're doing strength…

Um, it is hotalanta because it's hot and disgusting here pretty much all summer long. You can also call it 'hot sweaty and sticky atlanta,' if that sounds better. I'm from the SW and exiled to Atlanta for the time being--bring on the freakin' dry heat any day of the week!
-
Exactly. Me too! Getting back into shape, finding my groove, and fitting into my pre-40 clothes. Hell yell!

I'm not a vegetarian. I would like to be, but I'm too lazy, I'm married to a steak and potatoes guy, and I really like seafood and steak--otherwise, I could do it. That said, I do eat a lot of vegetarian-based protein (again because I'm a poser). Morning star products: vegan grillers and the breakfast sausage things--I eat…

Not bulking though--I understand completely that women don't/can't/won't bulk. I've been lifting for 3 months and I have most certainly not gotten bigger, and I knew I wouldn't for all the reasons discussed in book and diet. What I didn't really think about though is: what happens when my arms are as lean as I want them to…
