i know right!!? I see people on the stairmaster for 20-30 minutes - I am in awe of these guys (many of whom, admittedly, seem to be resting alot of their weight on the hand grips which methinks is a no-no)

some quick thoughts: (1) Add protein in the morning (a nice protein shake is simple and tasty). (2) try eliminating processed foods like brownies. granola, chips, and opt for whole food choices like almonds, oats, tuna, yogurt, cottage cheese. (3) add more veggies for lunch and dinner. lettuce is pretty low nutrient - try…

i think for such hard work - 3000 calories probably sounds right. even walking 18 holes on a golf coarse (carrying clubs) can add up to that much or more...so job well done!!
-
just did some research - apparently there is a big community of stair climbers that even do races and things....wow - can't imagine "running" up stairs for 30 min. imagine the size of your quads!!
-
wow - you sounds a little offended - I didn't mean any slight at all, and was just thinking "out loud" in a way - obviously people have personal tastes and also health concerns. but my point was only that minute for minute, stairs seem to be very efficient for burning calories.

I suppose everyone has different ways of counting calories/eating back - that's what makes it super confusing. There are 13 steps in a flight, so I did 20 flights (13 steps each). I was panting and sweaty at the end. I'm hesitant to continue to add the entry, as it was just 5 min of (admittedly intense) work, but then…

same here - and totally agree - its good to get some team spirit going - anyone here feel free to add me!

its 90% diet and that's the truth. and many years ago, I went on a very low calorie diet - and it worked but my muscles really wasted away. I don't think its a healthy way to go. you HAVE to exercise to be healthy, so no point in not just starting now. no point at all. that being said, if you have significant weight to…

I use MFP, Loseit to enter them in manually, but mostly I rely on my fitbit. I also have used Runkeeper w/ my iphone (ie - gps) before and it gives the same results as fitbit so I'm confident of the fitbit results being accurate.
-
wow - what an inspiration!!
-
yeah - climbing stairs is like intense right? or am I the only one. I couldn't go 5 flights at first....and climbing 10 still gets my heart racing....it must be awesome.
-
this is a tough one - I have the fitbit so that makes it easy, but anything else feels like an estimate...

I'm in a similar situation - not losing, but have restarted my routine since kinda going overboard over the holidays. I think in the long run this is good for us as it shook up our systems and definitely took us out of any starvation-like mode. The bad news is (at least for me) that it has taken a little while to fully…

I've tried it both ways and I find the only thing that consistently works is to do both - diet and exercise at the same time. why waste your time with other strategies if you know that this combo works 100%

cardio is very important for fat loss when you are bigger. you want to balance with strength training so you don't lose too much muscle, but that being said, the effects of muscle loss won't occur until you have come down in weight....I would say once you hit 25% body fat, you should think about weight lifting....but why…

I have this problem too - its like I've been good all day and then I am apt to pig out at night, despite not being hungry really. its a mental comfort thing I think. Lately what has worked for me is going to the gym at night. For you, I think you should eat dinner a tad bit later (basically before 8pm)....or if not dinner…

awesome thanks guys

its not as good as the ultra (no elevation), and IMHO not as good as the nike fuel since no display. but if you don't mind using it constantly w/ your phone, and the elevation/display issues don't bother you, fitbit makes a great product. I've been using the ultra for quite some time, recently picked up the Nike Fuel but…

thanks guys - I hear ya. before MFP or Loseit and the like, the Harris Benedict formula was the only way - and for what it is, its fairly simple. and that formula and MFP or Fitbit/Loseit (which I think both use it in some form), they all need fine tuning. I'm generally using MFP (have been since last year, but its never…

yeah...but dr. oz? I don't watch daytime tv, but isn't he well considered ? anyways, I'm going to pass and stick w/ the eat clean/move more camp.

once you've started a routine of saying no to bad stuff, it becomes so much easier to stay in the zone.
-
very inspiring - and you look so happy !! congrats!!

I"m in !!! I need to lose 50 pounds at least!! currently 223.8, want to get down to 175 asap!! good luck. (also - if anyone is on fitbit - you can add me - profile is http://www.fitbit.com/user/22TFTX).

the theory is that you eat back your calories, but due to perhaps inaccuracies in the model and/or divergences of our individual metabolisms....it doesn't work for all. I for one try not to eat them back. if I did, I think I'd gain weight. but maybe I did the starvation thing too long. hopefully eating back calories works…
-
yeah - I agree. If I have an active day of walking like 15000 steps, part of which is running for 30 min, it'll show something insane like a negative 1400 calories. In theory makes sense, but I wouldn't be losing wright like that. I try to stay close to my base value w/o fitbit or exercie....so for me my sedentary base is…

awesome job - it consistently surprises me how much younger people look once they've lost weight.

slice in 2 seconds, cleanup the cutter in a minute of scrubbing. or just cut w/ a knife in 10 sec, clean for 10 sec.
-
awesome job - can you share how you did it (diet/exercise etc). life stories like yours motivate us so much!!
