  • The Fitbit website gives you the sizes in the area where you purchase. Be careful though. My son's measurements showed that he needed the X-Large, so we had to order directly from Fitbit and when we got it it was way too big. IF you measure your wrist and it is on the verge of actually fitting the Large, go with it or you…
  • Wow. Goals. It's been 2 years and 8 months since I had my RNY. I did great, I think. Last month a gym FINALLY came to my hometown--I waited three years! I have been there every day, except one. I lost all my weight within the first year. I gained about 8 pounds the second year and honestly couldn't figure out WHY. I was…
  • I have had the Charge for almost a month now. I did have to do some customized settings after my MetaCheck RMR test with my physician and dietitian to allow the Fitbit to work better with my own metabolism. Since then, I am seeing some very accurate results and really enjoying my Charge. I am not concerned with the…
  • Today MFP is not syncing the Fitbit Charge at all. One day it works, next day NOT. I know you guys work hard to keep things up and running, but it sure is nice when they work in conjunction with each other.
  • Welcome! Congrats on the surgery date! Feel free to send a request. I had my RNY almost 2 1/2 years ago and am at the stage where the weight wants to come back, so watch things pretty closely. My diary is open and you can go all the way back to each day of my surgery from day 1. I've been logging for 1110 days and every…
  • 4 weeks out is still early. Yes, check with your doctor, but I know for a fact I had a lot of pain, weakness, and tiredness for at least the first 3 months. Especially the lower back, lower abdominal, pelvic area and legs. More relaxation time might be necessary.
  • After my 2 year and 5 month post op surgeon/dietitian visit yesterday, and a 6 pound gain during my first year of maintenance, I left with new information that I guess I pretty much already knew. My gain occurred while eating between 1300-1500 calories a day with light exercise. Guidelines I was told to follow are never to…
  • Wow! You really look amazing!! Great job!! :)
  • I wonder how you can still be in the overweight category at a size 4? Or even a 6 or 8? Those sizes are extremely small--I am an 8 and have been in the normal category for well over a year and a half. You've done AMAZING! Never, never shortchange yourself--you've come so far and I'm sure you look fantastic!
  • As someone who "TOOK THE EASY WAY OUT" and had RNY, gastric bypass surgery 20 months ago, I can honestly say that this was NOT the easy way out. Many times I wish I could eat a whole sandwich or a burger like a "normal" person, but I know where that got me in the first place. NO, I was not over 300 pounds when I had…
  • 20 months post RNY and I have suffered from insomnia since my surgery (unless you count the 2 weeks after when all I did was sleep!) I can sleep about 2 hours at a time, so I have no choice but to grab a nap during the day. This wouldn't work if I had a job outside my home. I tried a sleep aid, but as a type I diabetic,…
  • My hospital stay was one day. I had my RNY at 8 o'clock in the morning on a Thursday and was released at 9 o'clock the next day. I live 3 hours from the hospital and probably slept mot of the way home. They had me up and walking about 4 hours after surgery. The need for my CPAP ended about 2 weeks after I got home, my…
  • First off, no you won't be able to take the NSAIDS/Aleve/Advil, BUT... Who says you can't drink from a straw? I do. Or eat rice, pasta, or bread? I do. Or sleep on your stomach? Why not? I do. And you can eat beef or steak. Just chew it well. Geez. Moderation is the key here. Soda--I was a HUGE diet sodaholic, but soda's…
  • If you can't handle the taste or texture of the protein powdered shakes, try Isopure Zero--it is clear kool aid like flavored--and one bottle has 40 grams of protein, I believe. There are numerous flavors and GNC normally carries it, so does HEB if you have them in your area. I also know you can find them online. They are…
  • Isopure clear (looks like Kool Aid) comes in great flavors--they taste a bit like the Life Waters. They are great for protein. I know there are protein based jellos because I bought them after my surgery. You can hide vanilla flavored protein powder in puddings and other foods. Greek yogurts are great for protein. Not sure…
  • Your body is still healing. There's a reason for the post op diet and the need for the liquids and soft foods. Don't push it or you WILL have complications.
  • I am 20 months post op RNY. I have been at maintenance for over a year now. My weight fluctuates about 3 pounds either way. I do have my days that I am slightly over, but never by much. I weigh, measure, and track every morsel that goes in my mouth and when I enter a new recipe I carefully weigh and measure out those…
  • I have never dumped. I occasionally get a bit of a rapid heart rate when I eat brown sugar (has to be a LOT of it) but nothing major. I can eat cookies, cakes, pies, really anything. Just in moderation. Stomach is still very small--walnut sized in the beginning. I have also NEVER thrown up or been nauseous. If I overeat, I…
  • Orange, Texas...100 miles east of Houston on the Louisiana border. A dull little town until hurricane season!
  • My surgical team taught us to sip, sip, sip. I had almost a year to practice. Was fortunate to NEVER have vomiting or nausea. I am 20 months post op RNY and still have never had these issues. I still sip, never gulp or take big drinks. I sip water all day long, minus the 30 minutes before or after eating. Burping is…
  • ^^^This^^^ I honestly would consult another surgeon. I read about this prior to my decision to have RNY and was very skeptical. Please do a lot more research before deciding on something like this.
  • It's been my experience that with any excess weight loss--for those of us who have been overweight for a very long period of time--excess skin will be inevitable. The amount, as said, will have a good bit to do with genetics, yes. I have found, though, for myself, that over time, my body is readjusting itself and the…

  • My insurance was awful--I started with Texas Medicaid in August of 2011--I was on SSI Disability for many health reasons. Two months later, Texas laws changed and the insurance changed to a Medicaid HMO called Amerigroup. I fought for a year to have my surgery. Normally, I would have only had 6 dietary classes, one psych…
  • I am 45 and had gastric bypass surgery 20 months ago. My highest weight was 242--I am 5'5"" tall. I am a type I diabetic and have been since I was 15. Prior to surgery, I was using over 150 units of insulin thru the pump per day and my blood sugars were very uncontrolled. I had extremely high blood pressure, high…
  • My bypass was done on 9/27/12 at about 8 am in the morning and I was released at 9 am the following day. I live 3 hours away from the hospital where it was done, so rode in the car for 150 miles without a problem. I had a pillow on my lap. I think I dozed in and out a bit too. The first week I was really tired--but I'm…
  • The full feeling is pretty normal that early after surgery. Trust me, it passes. Enjoy it while it lasts. Just get in what you can and make sure you get those fluids in, though!
  • Is it a protein drink that is made specifically for people who have had weight loss surgery? I use Bariatric Advantage because of this reason. Would like to have some new flavors, though.
  • First off, I've NEVER heard of calcium being too high that it would interfere with surgery. Just not something that I can even see as an issue. Potassium maybe, or phosphorous if there are cardio, kidney, or liver issues. ??? Have you had your appointment with a cardiologist and stress tests? As far as the weight…
  • Thanks for the info on MapMyWalk! Going to check that out.
  • I think the calories you are getting are normal--I didn't get over that until about 5 months post op. I think my diary is open. For me, the important things at that point were the water and the protein amounts. I believe that I got up to 1000 around 9 months post op. My surgery was 9/27/12. You're welcome to check out my…
