Just Starting
I'm a type I diabetic, have been for 35 years. I also had weight loss surgery almost 7 years and have managed to gain about 20 pounds back. My diet the last two years has been dreadful. Tomorrow morning my 26 year old son and I are starting Whole 30. Any tips or do's or don't's would be greatly appreciated. I have googled,…

Stomach Pain a Year After Surgery
It's been more than 14 months since I had gastric bypass and I never once had any stomach issues, other than some constipation here and there. For the last week I have had really bad stomach cramping after I eat or drink anything. Not sure if it is gas pains or something else. My surgeon is 3 hours away and I just don't…

One Year "Surgiversary"
Today marks one year since my gastric bypass. It was a wild ride of denials and a roller coaster of emotions the year prior to my approval. My tv remote control and my phone couldn't take being thrown any more. I was a mess. The morning of my surgery, my sons and I set out at 2:30 am to head to Houston, where my surgery…

Eating More Slowly
I have noticed that recently I am eating my meals too quickly and not watching the sizes of my bites and chewing as well as I used to. I am only 3 months out and really need to get this together. Do any of you have anything that you do to help you to remember to slow down, chew, and appreciate the food you are eating?

Stomach Fat
For those of you who have already lost all or most of your weight, how long did it take the stomach fat to go? Was it the last? I am far past my surgeon's goal, BMI is normal (high end) and I have anywhere from 17-25 lbs to go to reach MY goal. I am noticing the weight coming off more in the leg area and the "girls" but…

Home equipment
I checked out a couple of local gyms today and found that I just can't afford the monthly fees. :( I have a weight bench at home and several sets of dumbbells that I use, but I want to add some more home equipment. I can probably buy a couple of things soon, but not sure which would be most beneficial for firming up and…

Normal
I am entering into my 9th month post op (gastric bypass) and I finally hit the "normal" range in the BMI calculator. I've seen so much change over these last few months and have been fortunate to have very few issues that are/were surgery or diet related. I am so thankful to have been given this tool to help me along. I…

Bariatric Surgery Food Pyramid
Hey, I got this from my bariatric dietitian yesterday and found it interesting. As a former student of nutrition, I had never seen anything like this. Thought I'd share the website: http://www.drsharma.ca/wp-content/uploads/sharma-obesity-nutritional-pyramid-bariatric-surgery.gif

80 pounds down in 8 months!
First photo was taken on May 30, 2012 when I really got serious about this weight loss journey. Type I Diabetes was very out of control, as well as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and asthma. Today my insulin usage is down from 155+ a day to about 26 a day. Sleep apnea and high blood pressure are things of the past,…

Stalled Weight Loss
I had Gastric Bypass the end of September and was 218 the morning of surgery. Currently I am about 184 and have been for about 4 weeks. I am only on 60 grams of protein a day due to kidney disease and have Type I Diabetes, Hypertension, Sleep Apnea, and Hypothyroidism. I'm becoming discouraged because my weight is now…

Gastric Bypass Success Rate
Just saw a post on the regular forum where someone stated that GB patients have a 5% success rate. I think you would have to look at the definition of success. Maybe some don't lose ALL the weight they need to, or some gain some weight back, etc. I think, though, that if health is improved and a major amount of weight is…

What to do with eggplant
I have never had eggplant before and my son bought one today. I was thinking maybe eggplant parmigiana might be a decent meal. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to fix it? I do have three sons who I have to please with whatever I cook. They really have no problem with healthy choices, but they definitely want food…

Dietitian/Doctor's BMR and TDEE for me do not match MFP
MFP has my BMR set way higher than my dietitian and doctor do. According to my dietitian, my BMR is 1548. MFP has it set at 1880. That's a pretty big difference.
